A pad Zero player by the name of Cloud805 made top 8 this year at Evo. It's not the fight stick that counts, it's the amount of mix-up potential Flocker took advantage of with his Zero team on top of the fact that Wolverine has a tough time getting in after the first few seconds of the match.

Like right when Diago starts parrying Justin starts frantically moving his joystick and smashing buttons trying to do something and when Diabo fires off his super Just just drops his head and sits back like he'd just watched his puppy die or something.

I would go as far to say 1994 was the real kickstarter, beginning with children of the atom. SF3, MvC2, and Capcom vs. SNK were the games that really made the benchmark. Nothing has even come close to match those titles in recent years.
I've talked to Flocker personally about Zero, he's told me he has no weaknesses as a character and no bad matchups. He also told me if Jwong picked Zero he would be unbeatable lol.
People want to shit on Zero and call him cheap but the learning curve to do all the shit you see Flocker doing is immense. It takes a lot of training and is pretty much impossible to do without a fight stick. On top of the fact that Flocker's execution is fucking flawless. Stop trying to belittle his accomplishment and just give the man his respect.

Flocker is good in his ways, and hell he even beat Justin, but he just couldn't "wow" us as much as Justin did.

He is definitely skilled, but I would venture to say that most fighting game enthusiasts agree playing with a pad is more difficult than playing with a stick, especially for complex inputs. Zero is a very complex character, and the fact that he used a pad to play the way he did makes it (at least for me) even more amazing.
I was surprised to see Justin in the grand finals, not for lack of skills, but for his team composition. When all the top players choose to rock broken characters in there whole team, do you expect a straight up skilled guy to win? For him to take it to the last match is a win in itself.
