  • Sprouted seeds are a great source of protein. They are packed with enzymes, vitamins, antioxidents and amino acids the birds need. In this short video I will show you how easy it is to sprout seeds for your birds.

    Thank-you for this video for sprouting seeds. Does this exact steps work for sprouting millet sprays or will I have to tweak it? I have heard to put container on top of a warm place overnight like top of a refrigerator where it is warm....& then use Aviclens to keep unwanted fungus etc...from growing....Do I need to do all of these steps....I live in north texas where it is warlike Florida. Need help please. I learn by watching more than by reading as all of the words seem to go on forever. Thank-you for simplifying your video. I have not attempted other printed information as it seemed to be too overwhelming to me.

    Thank you so much for your video. You explained the process so well and made it easy to do. I followed your instruction and just did this for the first time 2 days ago. I am in Thailand, so it's really hot, and my seeds are already sprouting in 2 days, with long roots / sprouts coming out. I just fed some to my Gouldian finches and budgies, they seem scared of it so far, but I have seen a few sample them... so hopefully later they will get into eating them and get healthy food. PS, how long can I keep the sprouted seeds fresh? I can i put them in the fridge? Thank you.

    Do you leave the strainer like that for three days or do you do the process again for three days?

    When you leave them in the strainer should it be exposed to the sun or hidden in a closet at room temperature

      don't bother, they're fine with just seed, give them veggies or fruit for a treat, exotics are more needy if you want to breed them

    • @huianxing3782
      @huianxing3782 Рік тому

      Yes you should bother. Just give a bit in a seperate container and put it in the cage, see how much they eat and adjust. It depends on how many you have, their preferences on food and what other foods you feed them.

    Thanks for this video! I'm gonna try it - today already!! :)
    Just one question; are the sprouted seeds given as the main food, or in addition to dry seeds? (sorry if that's a silly question)
    Thanks again! :)

    • @paradiseaviary
      @paradiseaviary  2 роки тому +3

      Hi Jojo Bee glad the video helped, the dry seeds are always going to be their main source of food. The sprouted seeds can also be given daily but smaller quantities i give about 1tsp per bird once in the a.m and then again in p.m . I use them as a tool to get the birds into breeding condition or for young chicks that are learning how to eat and cant quite crack open a dry seed.

    Egg food can be given daily, especially when breeding or conditioning birds for breeding. Lots of NFSS breeders give their birds egg food year round and some make it themselves with 90% of the mixture being pure egg.

    • @paradiseaviary
      @paradiseaviary  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Corrin Jessen eggfood can be given daily just like any other source of food, but its not healthy for the bird. Eggfood is not a natural food source and birds do not get this in the wild, This is a supplement that we provide to make up for natural foods that normaly would stimulate them to breed and feed chicks. Depending on the size of the cage and the species some may become overweight due to the high source of fat. I also make my own eggfood but that doesnt make it healthy just because its homemade when compared to commercial brands like higgans, cede, etc etc. its still something that should only be given to condition birds for breeding max 3x a week (in my opinion so they dont become overweight) or when they have chicks on a daily basis.

    • @corrinjessen
      @corrinjessen Рік тому

      @@paradiseaviary I see! I don’t keep my birds in cages so I never throughly about that. My birds are in an outdoor aviary throughout the year so definitely need all the fat and carbs they can get- especially surviving the winter (even though the aviary is covered and heated). I notice my birds double their food intake in the fall and winter. I always supply egg food because either they are surviving through the winter or when it’s not cold they consistently breed throughout the spring and summer.
      But I can see how caged birds could get overweight from eating certain foods too much.

    Hii, is there a way to tell if the seed has grown mold? I don't really know anything about and I don't wanna accidentally feed my birds mold

    • @paradiseaviary
      @paradiseaviary  3 роки тому +2

      The best way to tell is by the smell of the seeds. They should smell nutty, if for any reason they smell sour they have gone bad. You can also look at them very closely and you might be able to see small mold spores if so they have gone bad. The best way to avoid any mold is to add some apple vider vinager to the water as they soak for the 2-4hours I forgot to mention this in the video.

    Do I need to leave it under the sun or just in a place where light strikes during that 2- 4 hrs?
