So often when someone joins well loved artists it feels uncomfortable. This was pure magic! Andy was perfectly at home with Simon and Garfunkel . Just blown away.
How can these men sound so unbelievably beautiful? Stunning. Andy’s introduction was a great thing, too. Lee, your receptiveness to the ethereal beauty was wonderful to see.
Andy Williams sang Ave Maria at Bobby Kennedy's funeral in 1968. He was a close friend of Bobby Kennedy, knowing that and hear him singing could brake your heart.
My mom loved Andy Williams, and his Andy Williams Show. Because this was the 60s, there was only 1 tv per household, thus we watched what mom chose. And for that reason, I saw this show on the couch with mom.
Andy was one of the older guys who was truly hip. He hosted the Grammy Awards for many years. Started out in a harmony quartet with his 3 brothers, then had his own series several times and many hit records. He also discovered the Osmond Brothers and pioneered Branson, MO as an entertainment hotspot.
My first concert was Simon and Garfunkel 1968. My older sister took me to the show. I can remember watching the Beatles on Ed Sullivan and the Who on the Smothers Brothers show but that performance jump-started my love of music.
Andy Williams originally working with his brothers in Las Vegas while still minors, he went on his own for a 50 year career and what a treasure. Andy recorded some of the most beautiful and iconic Christmas songs along with many contemporary hits. He performed up to his 80's.
Andy Williams is on most people's Christmas songs list "It's the Most wonderful time of the year " is my favorite Andy sang the theme songs for several movies such as "Moon River " Paul Simon was playing the guitar Art Garfunkel is the taller fellow with curly hair
One of my very favorite songs of my entire life of 77 years. Released when I was a freshman in college. They are among my favorite musical artists ever.
@helenespaulding7562 I TOO am 77 and THIS is my favorite Simon and Garfunkel song. I have always loved Medieval sounding songs like this, it's SO BEAUTFIUL.
Yes, Cecilia😍 the Nun that taught Physics in my high school in the late 60s used to play Simon and Garfunkel in the physics lab while she was working. She especially loved Cecilia. Funny huh?
Loved this. I've been a big fan of Andy Williams since his start with The Williams Brothers. So many songs in his playlist. Two songs I love from Simon and Garfunkel that aren't played often are "So Long Frank Lloyd Wright" & "Keep the Customer Satisfied". Blessings all
Love Simon & Garfunkel and never saw this version before although I do recall watching the Andy Williams show some as a child. They used to do truly live performances on TV shows like this back in the day. Check out the Righteous Brothers (Bobby Hatfield singing) doing Unchained Melody LIVE on this show.
You just NEVER hear ANYTHING like this in today's music. I never hear anything that is current that just takes me to another place, that touches my soul and heat, that makes me emotional, or to dream by. That's why I still love the music I grew up with in the '50s, '60s, 'and '70s. LEE, you are the ONLY reactor who "GOT" the medieval /Renaissance period of this song. That it takes you to other places from long long ago. PLEASE DO some from ANDY WILLIAMS. Watched his show all the time back then. His voice is like silk.
Oh my Grandma was really in love with Andy Williams. Me and my sister were in choir in high school in the late 60s and our very cool chorus teacher had all the music to this Scarborough fair Canticle, and we all learned how to sing it in harmony. To this day, me and my sister septuagenarians still sing the songs in harmony together … we still have fun with it
that is such a great guitar riff, motif, whatever you wanna call it. and finger picked no less. So beautiful and evocative of another time, medieval-like. Great stuff!
I played Moon River for my mom at her funeral. Played Take Five for dad. Opposite ends of the spectrum musically, but they were married for 60 years. Andy was on at our house every week. He was a cool guy. Watch his introduction of the Rightous Brothers on his show. Then watch the movie The Graduate. ❤😊
Andy had one of the most Pristine elegant male voices you'll ever here. Fits in with them perfectly. Now do yourself a favor and listen to Andy for real. "Moon River" by him was iconic in the 60s and 70s. Also check out "Love Story" by him. My old ma and pa used to listen to Andy late into the wee hours of the morning on the big stereo console in the living room. Kept all the kids in the back of the house awake. Suffice to say I am very familiar with his work.
Admittedly, I was never into the singers of Andy William's style and generation (Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, etc.). But Andy was more open to the new sounds happening in the 60s and 70s, and his voice fit very well into some of the songs of that era, especially this one. Another singer of Andy's generation who was flexible and adapted well to newer sounds was Perry Como (my mom's favourite). He did an album of soft rock songs in the early 70s, including Bread's hit Aubrey.
They mean a lot to me and that was beautiful... and you are very good at expressing what we all experience. There are two songs I would like to hear here - Homeward Bound and I Am A Rock - two of my favorites
I love this reaction. Very imaginative and thoughtful. If you look a bit you will see a lot of medieval and fantasy influence in rock music or folk music of the '60s.
She must have hurt him so bad for him to ask her to do do impossible things to win him back. Beautiful song. I have actually been to Scarborough Fair in North Yorkshire, England.
Andy Williams like a lot of "singers" had a weekly TV Variety show, His was on NBC from 1962 - 1967 and then he only did specials for the next few years. He had that pleasing easy listening male crooner voice particularly favored by women of my grandmother and mother's eras. I really don't remember it as a regular show in our house. Maybe if he had a certain guest, my folks watched
Andy Williams has a beautiful voice -you should listen to Moon River-beautiful-Scarborough Fair was always one of my favorites -I was in high school and this song was so mystical and reminiscent of knights and fair maidens-just right for a high school romantic
That was great Lee! Loved Andy, but had not seen this before. For him, Moon River is the song for sure. For S&G, how about The Only Living Boy in New York or So Long, Frank Loyd Wright, both off Bridge Over…. :)
If you’re going to delve into S&G’s central park concert, you must listen to “my little town “. I believe it was the only new song Paul wrote for this reunion concert. Both Paul and Art included it on their own solo albums and it was a big hit at the time.
That was great. I'm surprised I hadn't seen that version before since I was a big fan of both S&G and Andy Williams, and I usually watched The Andy Williams Show.
In the 1970s, I grew up on Elton John; in the 80s I grew into solo Peter Gabriel and his Genesis, plus New Wave Rock. But as a child of Six or Seven years of age, it was Andy Williams' sweet, rich Alto voice that was my favourite. This was a good choice, good reaction, L33. It was Paul Simon on the guitar, BTW. Try "Moon River" by Andy Williams. "El Condor Pasa" by Simon & Garfunkel. ---OronOfMontreal.
Beautiful. There are video clips here on Utube from The Andy WIlliams show. They ones with Bobby Darin is gold. One Andy, Bobby Darin and Vic Damone, another with Andy, Darin and Eddie Fisher,, all great, great singers.
This was gorgeous, that 3 part harmony. Some suggestions: The Only Living Boy In New York, Song For The Asking, April Come She Will and Wednesday Morning 3 a.m. For some Paul Simon solo work, there are so many to choose from But I particulary like American Tune, 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover, Still Crazy After All These Years and Kodachrome.
ANDY WILLIAMS =
“MOON RIVER “
now you need to hear Andy on his own!!! Beautiful Voice!!
"Moon River" was my mother's favorite song.
Good call. My mother LOVED Andy Williams.
So often when someone joins well loved artists it feels uncomfortable. This was pure magic! Andy was perfectly at home with Simon and Garfunkel
. Just blown away.
How can these men sound so unbelievably beautiful? Stunning. Andy’s introduction was a great thing, too.
Lee, your receptiveness to the ethereal beauty was wonderful to see.
So simple yet so outstanding. No fancy dancing, costumes, etc. Just pure talent on display, don't need any props when you have real talent.
@@hannejeppesen1809 Amen to that
Paul Simon is a genius...and an underrated guitarist. His acoustic guitar arrangements are spectacular.
Note Simon's guitar picking on this song, while also singing, is just perfect.
Andy Williams sang Ave Maria at Bobby Kennedy's funeral in 1968. He was a close friend of Bobby Kennedy, knowing that and hear him singing could brake your heart.
I had 21 of Andy's albums at 21 or so....loved his voice and style.. never missed a single show or Christmas special...🎉🎉🎉😊
I loved Andy Williams singing ‘Where Do I Begin’ from the film Love Story. A Classic 😊
All I know by Art Garfunkel will bring you to tears.
That was beautiful ... Williams fit in so well
My mom loved Andy Williams, and his Andy Williams Show. Because this was the 60s, there was only 1 tv per household, thus we watched what mom chose. And for that reason, I saw this show on the couch with mom.
It was regular viewing in our living room as well. Even once saw Andy's xmas show in Branson w/ my sibs and parents.
Andy Williams most famous song was huge!! Moon River.
It was from the movie, Breakfast At Tiffanys.
@@bradjenkins1475 I love Audrey Hepburn singing it from the fire escape♥️
What a treat with Andy Williams! Thanks!
So many great singers from Andy Williams era.
I've never heard that before with Andy Williams- he fits right in with them. Beautiful. One of the best songs ever. Thanks Lee!
Andy Williams has always been my favorite Christmas carols singer. Absolutely beautiful voice!
I think we can forgive him for The Osmonds by now!
Just... wow... so beautiful. Awesome reaction Lee.

Thank you! This is one of my favorite S&G songs, but I had never seen this collaboration with Andy Williams. That was gorgeous!
Paul was playing the guitar. Growing up, my family watched The Andy Williams Show every week, he was from an older generation obviously
Us too. I would have been 11 during this year. Lying on the floor it was great!😁👍
This song is so wounderful, i gets goespumps what great voices.
Wow...that was absolutely gorgeous.
Right?? Pure magic
Andy Williams and Perry Como. Two smoooth voices.
Well said, all the mystical lands. I have loved this song for a long time.

Loved how your face lit up in a smile. Andy Williams was very popular in the 60s and had an amazing voice. A huge favorite of my mom's.
Andy had a tenor voice that was beautiful
I grew up with Andy! One of the most smooth and beautiful voices. Simon and Garfunkel remains my fav duo 60 years
I have never heard this version before. The harmonies were incredible. I really enjoyed this.
I’m glad you enjoyed it too, my friend. Absolutely marvelous harmonies
"The Dangling Conversation" & "Kathy's Song"; for both, the studio versions are a MUST. Both are beautiful songs.
One of my very favorite songs of my entire life of 77 years. Released when I was a freshman in college. They are among my favorite musical artists ever.

Andy was a huge talent in his own right, but him and Simon and Garfunkel was absolutely stellar!
That’s a helluva trio right there!! Magical stuff.
S&G - Cecilia and 59th street bridge song.

Andy is smooth and fit in to this well. He got it. S+G are astral.
He totally got it. He explained it to succinctly in the intro
Song For The Asking. Another s & g beauty.
Love your inspiring thoughts.
My fav is Saturday nite live when Paul Simon was host in 1975, Art was a guest
That sounds like a good one I’ll check it out. Thank you!
Love this. Amazed how good they sound live. Highly recommend their autobiographical "The Only Living Boy in New York."
Grew up listening to my dad’s S&G and Andy Williams albums. His version of “Moon River” was big in the 50’s .

BIG love!! Reactors never have the patience for this and YOU do...Thanks!!

Andy Williams was my mom's favorite male singer. Smooth. There is a reason Andy had his own show on TV.
Beautiful. Priceless. Timeless.

The set of a weekly variety show, 55 years ago, no audio shenanigans, just a mic on an empty stage.

Paul Simon's solo song "Duncan" from his first album after S&G is a great, underappreciared song.
