    Good assessment. BIR is my home track. Lots of people go off at 2 as it’s a long turn and many people turn-in early. One must be patient there. My max speed at the apex of T2 was 131mph in my C7Z.

    Well done video! I really liked your rating section. I haven't driven a lot of tracks, so I can't comment on your risk/reward rating too much. I have noticed that I can gain a lot of time on the super fast sections of the track - and those are the areas that can be more nerve wracking. Also, it's interesting to see a very large difference between thoughts and strategy with a 200 hp vehicle versus 400 or 500+ cars that I've driven on this track with. It really changes how the track is driven and what you have to do in each area.

    Nice video. I have to say I'm surprised you think BIR is as risky as Blackhawk. Other than turn 11, no corner is really going to catch you by surprise. BIR is one of the safer tracks I've raced, decent run off in most places, no Armco, one small blind section (8,9,10). I'm looking forward to your other reviews.

    Never been to a track before and this is a local track that is about 30 miles away from where I live. Definitely not sure about making it my first track with such a high risk factor but I'm sure if I take it slow and don't ego chase I should be alright!

      I am on track alot at BIR both for Endurance racing as well as track days for cars and motorcycles. I also race at Road America in Wisconsin and Autobahn in Illinois. All 3 tracks have risk.... take it easy and be smart. Work your Lap times down slowly and learn every inch of the track before you run 8 or 9 10th. The performance driving school is great at BIR.
      A great starting point is DCTC south of the cities. The Gary Curtis Performance Drive School usually does an event once per month in the summer. Great people and fun little track.

    I've raced here several times for Proving Grounds. I've only ever done autocross before that and this being my only road course I think it's not too scary. Just take it easy and learn the track slowly increasing pace. Follow other people's lines and get a feel for where you can go faster.

    Turn 2 was for me, scary but not. It was weird, I couldn't get myself to do it flat out. The data shows it could easily be flat in my basically stock ND miata. Just under 100 in turn 2 was only .9G. It's wide enough that even with some mistakes in 2, there was a lot of room for error yet.

    Do you think its actually better to late apex turn 6? I have been thinking an early apex is a better line through there since there is so much room on the exit there to carry the same speed on exit, however, I normally turn in too late their most of the time, especially in the Standing Start! Great Video!

    • @ZeroAltera
      @ZeroAltera 4 роки тому

      I do not think early apex on 6 is a good idea, it puts you far outside where there is a hellacious curb. In my opinion, BIR is quite a wide track and you will pretty much late apex everything.

    • @supradma71
      @supradma71 4 роки тому

      @@ZeroAltera I guess I have done it both ways and for me an early apex on 6 is faster. What are your thoughts with the line in 6 in this video? it looks like an early apex to me and the line that I believe is close to optimal When you are to the inside curbing as it starts...

    • @ZeroAltera
      @ZeroAltera 4 роки тому +2

      @@supradma71 The track is deceiving. The curbing is not in the middle of the corner, take a look at a satellite image of turn 6 and you will see that in this video he basically hits the apex. He does not late apex; to do that he would of needed to brake even later and turn in at the cone. I race Spec Miata and usually the only way to early apex this corner and not fly off the end is if you already over slowed on entry.

    • @supradma71
      @supradma71 4 роки тому

      @@ZeroAltera I checked out the satellite image and you are right, using the curbing as the reference to the middle of the corner isn't the best choice there! I always thought the curbing was centered in the center of the corner but its not. Seeing how the curb is actually placed It looks to me like a traditional middle apex (vs early or late) more corresponds to the line I have found to be best with many laps spent there. Thanks!

      @ZeroAltera 4 роки тому

      @@supradma71 You're welcome. I was fairly certain you were not early apexing there, otherwise you would be jumping the big concrete curb on exit. I've seen many airborn SMs there. :)

    Sorry it is one of the safest tracks in the world (long track)
    Short track is a go kart track with little or no runoff run in the parts added. Pit road is way too narrow
