I find it interesting that Eddie plays this song only fretting the absolute minimum strings he has to for each measure. Like how he doesn’t bar the G or Bm. He doesn’t even fret the A string on the C until he has to. And I think he might be lifting his ring finger when he moves from the Bm to the weird G7. I always slide if I can to keep everything tight. I get the precision. But for me, I’d prefer to minimize the number of cord shapes I’m playing all the time. If I can jump to something familiar, I prefer to do that. I’m holding down a bunch of strings I don’t have to, and yet somehow it still feels easier to me. Maybe he just has a lot more familiar places to jump to than I do. Actually I’m sure he does. Anyway, I am very much enjoying adding this song to my list. Thank you Ryan. And I like your music theory vids too.
You're the best man! Ed is my favorite but never really tried to play him. You taught me most of Into the Wild and having fun learning them. Thanks dude 😎
Thanks for teaching me this amazing song. I would like to humbly request Baby Lemonade by Syd Barrett. Thank you for taking the time to show us all how to make a beautiful noise on our guitars.
Picked up the guitar again after a few years and your videos have been incredibly helpful, cheers Ryan. Maybe you could add Operator by Jim Croce to the list? He’s got some excellent tunes.
Love this one. Super fun to play and such an amazing tune. Favorite song of that album (Rise is a close second). I like to go up and pluck both the B an E strings on the 5th (instead of the bass note) at the end of the progression. Not correct..but has a nice ring. Thanks
Seems the last time I decided to learn this I was a bit overwhelmed and I couldn't make it all the way through (so I learned the ukulele version instead! :D). Apparently I've made progress (thanks to you and your cool lessons!) because today it seems to run a biiit more smoothly. I think it's been a day or two since I last said it, so once again: thank you :) Also this is one of the prettiest songs. Ever. It's a fact.
Such an amazing song and it fit perfectly for Into the Wild. Thank you so much for this. I struggled with this finger picking. I would love to request Roll if Ya Fall by Barefoot Truth if possible. Haven't request anything yet so hopefully this spot is sufficient. Both artists are soulful gems as you are yourself Ryan! Thanks as always for sharing!
What's up Larry! the thing I can't get over is despite the fact that we haven't spoken in half a year I still remember that you live in Portland (the city in which Oregan resides, of course) Thank you for the request, and thank you for a fun time :) this is indeed the place to make requests.
Hey, man. New to the channel. I just subbed. Youre amazing!!! Im trying to learn some songs by Highly Suspect, they are my favorite band currently. You should give them a listen. Im new to guitar and would love to learn one of these songs if you would pick one out. Theyre very good and your teaching style ia wonderful. Lydia Bloodfeather Little one Serotonia My name is human These are all awesome songs id love to learn from you and that i think you will enjoy. Also, what kind of electric guitar should i get to start on?? My fender bit the dust and Im sad about it :/
Mister Cheadle, I must confess that if a well known fellow named Don was going to get in touch I would have much preferred Don Adams or Don Mattingly, but I'll take what I can get. I'll happily put those on the list for you - but if you would like a faster turnaround, I suggest a skype lesson, my treat, we'll get you going on the best one for your current abilities :) LMK You should get whatever electric guitar is in your budget, looks good to your eye, and feels good in your hands. Don't over think it :) Thanks for watching, for the kindness, and best of luck to you on your guitar adventure Don, just in case this is the last time we speak!
This is awesome dude, thank you. For me, I find it easier just to bar the opening G and BM like normal even though we aren't going to use the lower A and E string. Otherwise, it's a new pattern for me that my hand just doesn't do automatically without thinking about it. The G7 is a new pattern for me so can't avoid having to get used to that. Anyway, thank you for doing this one.
I can’t imagine a world where I don’t LOVE this song.
'tis a beaut
Thanks a ton I've been wondering lately about this song :)
hey there he is! that was like the 8th request ever!
Bro it’s Jacob simmonds
