Thank you for addressing informed consent! It's something we don't hear enough about, especially in a hospital setting. I was surprised today when my midwife (who practices in a hospital) led with the risks and benefits of a certain intervention - I've never heard a care provider lead with that. Usually it's just a "sell" to try to get you to take the easy way out (for them). All that to say I appreciate you bringing this up.
Very good. Informing women not to consider being touched until 40w first time and 41w in subsequent 🙌 You are arming women its fantastic!!! Membrane sweep requires CONSENT It IS also a form of induction!!!
I got this done at 39 weeks and 6 days at 4pm. I was 3 cm dilated and the next morning, at 6:20am my water broke, my daughter was born the same day at 1:40pm. Also, I had been doing the miles circuit and yoga ball exercises and I only pushed once, and baby started going out by her own, it was incredible!! She came out so fast with only 1 push. No tearing.
Got a sweep at 41 weeks and 4 days, 3 days before the scheduled induction and it worked. (Wasn’t painful at all, I actually asked to do it twice). The next day I delivered naturally very easily 😊
39w + 4d. 2nd baby. Getting this done today, fingers crossed we meet out little girl soon. UPDATE: procedure was done at 2:30pm & within an hour I began feeling cramps in my abdomen. By 3:30 am contractions started & our princess was born at 2:16pm the following day. ❤
Had one yesterday at 40+3 at 4pm it’s now almost 12pm the next day and nothing although the midwife said I was already around 2cm dilated😫 I feel hopeless now
Yeah i haven’t got a yoga ball although id loved to have had one. Curb walks I’ve done a little but not much, could probably do some more. My midwife said about colostrum harvesting..
Thank you from one momma to another ❤ did this with my second baby at 39 weeks on a Friday afternoon.. was set for a induction the following Monday. Saturday morning at 9am started with contractions and gave birth at 6pm ❤ this baby I’m 39 weeks and 4 days and I just got the sweep hoping to go in Labor before my set induction Saturday 🤞
I was offered a "cervical exam" once during my first pregnancy... a few days before my due date. I'm pretty sure my midwife gave me a membrane sweep without my consent. I bled profusely after she took her hand out, and she didn't seem very apologetic about it. I bled for 48 hours. After that I had a premature rupture of membranes, and baby was born 72 hours later. I am refusing any cervical exams for my current pregnancy. Even though my current OBGyn is extremely likeable and ethical, the trust is gone forever. She can stay out of my vag until I'm out of the transition stage of labor.
In my first pregnancy I was told the centile is very less and was induced at 37 weeks and having a son of 2.5kg if the drs would wait for natural pains my son would come naturally with average weight i guess..at my second pregnancy I had a breech girl for which the dr did internal checkup I wasn't even told or asked about membrane sweep it gave me mild contractions for a while and at the same day i was forced by drs for a c-section..they even asked my family members to convince me for a c-section ..now I'm 39weeks nd 4 days..tomorrow morning my dr will be performing membrane sweep she said..I just want a normal delivery by 1st July because that's my wedding anniversary 😊
I have suspected my OB also did a sweep on my without asking. I had an appt and the morning and she checked my cervix, but it was WAY more painful than any other checks and made me bleed. I was mentally out of it it off the rest of the day, all I could do was rest. It’s like it took something out of me.. idk.
Thank you for your breathing techniques videos and enforcing mind matters over everything and felt so in control as I was breathing through it and doing dhikr( praising Allah subhaan allahi wa bi hamdihi subhaan allahil adheem) in relxations between contractions
39w tomorrow 🤞 my cervix is favorable at this appt because they won't do a sweep unless im dialted some on my own and have only been 1/2cm since 37w 😥 I just want my baby in my arms already! ❤
Got my sweep at 38 weeks 5 days. Then worked a 12 hour shift yesterday. And currently having reoccurring, but irregular, contractions at 205am. We will see how it goes! It’s definitely enough to make me not sleep well.
Im 39 weeks & 3 days! Got the sweep today at 2pm, it was a little uncomfortable but didn’t hurt at all. Still haven’t get contractions, if this works I’ll keep you posted. Wish me luck ❤
As a first time mom with symptoms of labor but an impending induction (for no good reason...doctors...), I had a sweep at 9pm, contractions started at midnight and had baby about a day later. I didn't feel anything "painful" or that uncomfortable at all but then again, the doctor commented on the fact that I didn't even flinch and said I must have a high pain tolerance.
Had a membrane sweep done on Monday at 38 weeks + 4 days 3rd baby to try and prevent the induction that was scheduled for this morning (Thursday) and I delivered on Tuesday morning! 🙌🏽 This is my 3rd baby and second delivery using your videos and techniques. I recommend you to every pregnant mama I know! You are truly God Sent! This was my first time getting a membrane sweep so I was a little nervous but I have to say it wasn’t bad at all! A little uncomfortable afterwards but I braced myself for the worst after reading other comments and I have to say I would do it again in a heartbeat to avoid being induced. I was induced for baby #2 due to preeclampsia and had to labor in the hospital. I still delivered in 1 breath (push) but the labor process was 6 hours in the hospital. I prefer laboring at home as long as possible which I was able to do with this birth. Contractions started at 6:15 am. Used your breathing techniques again for this labor. Arrived at the hospital at 10:00 am already dilated to a 8cm. Water was broken around 11:05 am and baby was born at 11:15 am in 3 breaths. My Last delivery I used the J breath and delivered in 1 breath/ surge. This delivery the horse lips breath felt comfortable and natural for me and she was born on the 3rd surge after my water was broken. Thank you so much for what you do and the info you share! You are truly God Sent! 🙏🏽
I’m so glad I saw your comment ! I had my membrane sweep this morning. Trying to avoid a scheduled induction as well. This is my 5th baby and she just does not want to come lol😂 your comment gave me hope! I definitely do not want to be induced I’ve had it before and it led to a 28hr labor. Praying to go quick this time! Congratulations on your baby! ❤❤
immediately after your sweep, you may notice irregular contractions and some women experience spotting. In addition, if the sweep has worked, you may have a “bloody show” as the mucus plug sealing your womb comes out
I had 4 sweeps done and even got a foley bulb at week 41. Labor still took some time and I went into labor at 41 weeks and 4 days. Though it was frustrating my little guy is here!
Yes, the whole consent thing. I went in today for them to check my cervix. He then said, “okay going to be more pressure.” Then proceeded to tell me he just stripped my membranes without letting me know in advance. Like you said it just made me feel out of control. I am being induced & he explained after that it’ll help push things a long, but that was painful & I would have loved to know in advance.
This is not legal at all. It would actually be considered assault. You should have been informed if they were going to proceed to go into your cervix and strip the membranes because it is a form of induction.
I had a membrane sweep with my youngest during a cervical exam. It was a bit uncomfortable but it wasn't excruciating for me. That's different for everyone. This was on a Tuesday around 11am. I had my baby the next day on Wednesday at 827pm. It definitely started my contractions and got me going. I did curb walking after that appointment. It was a great experience for me
done it today I’m 39 weeks & 4 days first time stripping membranes painful experience, right now having contractions I’m 2cm dilated already Hopefully by 31 Halloween my lil guy is here 💙
Very helpful to have this explained more than my doctor tries to explain it... lol but it makes me feel a lot better about it for when my baby is ready to come.
I'm carrying twins, this is my first pregnancy and I got my sweep at 37 weeks , getting induced at 38. I'm ready. Back is sore and lost my mucus plug. My OB was very encouraging about everything.
I’m 4 months pp. I had a membrane sweep at 37 weeks, and whewwwww it was EXTREMELY uncomfortable, I could only tolerate the process for about 5 seconds. It worked though, baby was born 2 days later!
I debated whether getting my membranes stripped (40+2 and have been in early labor for two weeks) and I decided to do it after getting checked today. I am 3cm and 80% effaced so I’m very hopeful the membrane stripping will help. FYI I am very sensitive down there but I told my OB to take it slow and easy and she was so gentle! I have never had a cervical exam I could get through without wincing but because of how slow she went I felt no pain, only the pressure and uncomfortable feeling of someone’s fingers up there. So my two cents, if you’re thinking about getting your membranes stripped but are sensitive to pain down there, ask for a gentle and slow check/stripping. I’m currently cramping and contracting and had a tiny bit of blood come out afterwards, but I’m really hopeful this kick starts labor for me! I definitely wouldn’t recommend stripping earlier than the due date unless necessary.
My own anecdotal evidence that it works-I had a membrane sweep the morning of 38w4d. I was 1.5-2cm dilated for a couple weeks at that point. After a day of cramping I went into labor that night and had my son in my arms by noon the next day.
I had one done at 38w 4d... it was excruciating. More painful than labour and birth for me. Worth it though as my son was born 27hrs later! He was measuring two weeks ahead.
@@Erinleigh116 labor was painful (until the epidural), but I would still describe the sweep as excruciating. Due with number 2 the end of this month and will be getting my sweep next week+
I was 2 cm dilated and I also didn’t even feel the dr doing this but I’m thankful she did in my first pregnancy, I was 38 weeks 5 days, went into labor the same night. I’ll be asking for it now ❤️ I’m currently 38 weeks 4 days
I’ve had 4 sweeps and with 3 of them- I delivered within 24 hours of the sweep. For me, it wasn’t painful at all. Especially compared to labor 😂😂😂 and after 38 weeks, worth a shot even if nothing comes of it in my opinion
Woah perfect timing! I'm 39w+6 today with baby #2 and have an appointment today with my OB. If I'm dialated enough I'm getting a sweep to hopefully get things going 🙌🏼
I'll be 41 weeks tomorrow and at the appointment tomorrow I'll be getting a sweep. I'm nervous, but more ready for this baby to get here, so I'll overcome this for my babe
I do have a very favorable cervix. At 39 weeks I was 60% effaced and about 1cm dilated. At 40 weeks I was 70% effaced and about 3cm dilated. So all nervousness aside, I'm ready.
My 3rd baby was most traumatic. They had performed this membrane strip and also they did amniotomy both excruciating. I was crying the whole time because i want to experience a “normal” birthd delivery and the beauty of it. But then here they are intervening just to force labor. I feel like i was robbed out of that experience.
Why do you guys always act like you are forced into procedures at gun point. You could have said no. They will let you know the risks but it's your right you stand by your decisions. Most times you're not confident of your own decision and choose to go with theirs perhaps out of fear but it was still with your consent, then only to act like you were forced later. We're not zombies or victims.
Thank u Bridget!!! U always just nail the topics that I have in my mind. I always struggle to ask the right questions. Would love to hear more open questions to ask the ob midwife to find out if we need procedures
Bridget. Thank you so much for sharing! I had an appt with my OB last night and they mentioned membrane sweep at 39 weeks. It wasn't exactly presented as an option but because I had seen this video I had an idea of what it was and was able to ask if I had the option of forgoing , which I do :) Thank you!
I had this done 2 times toward the end of my pregnancy. I had spotting and once got a migraine, but no increase in dilation, no cramping no labor. Baby came one her due date, amniotic sack intact!
My membrane sweep was incredibly painful, I bled and was shaking from pain right after. I was 38w, I am in Canada and that's what the OBGYN recommended. Next time I will wait longer. I was a first time mom.
Imma get one at my 40 week and 4 day appointment if i still dont have my baby by then, im really hoping i do becuz my doctor said they will induce me if i go over 41 weeks T-T im 39 weeks and 2 days right now and still no labor, i hope i go into labor this week already Im in canada as well
Just want to add my story since I read so many going into my sweep!! Firstly, nothing I read was similar to my crazy experience lol! I got my first ever membrane sweep yesterday at 37 weeks 4 days; this is my 3rd baby! Last two were medically induced, (pitocin to start, other drugs to keep me woozy before epidural) I was very young and uneducated and my mind said “ooh relief” I had both previous babies at 38 weeks, one 3hrs start to finish, one 4hrs start to finish. Well this time everything I was used to happening later actually happened early! Baby dropped early, LOTS of lightning pains etc, etc. He actually was measuring in the 98th percentile and 2 weeks ahead at my 34 week appointment! Leading up to my sweep I was drinking 2-3 cups of Red Raspberry leaf tea a day (started at 33 weeks), I tried dates for like a week but the ones I got were fermented and so gross so eck! I tried everything under the sun to prep for labor but in my opinion the only things worth trying are: - Red Raspberry leaf tea 2-3 cups a day - Evening primrose oil in the last two weeks (kept me from tearing all 3 pregnancies, used two punctured capsules as a suppository. - Water - Controlled breathing - Rest and things that calm you and bring you happiness (mine were playing with my kids, candles, magnesium baths, a nice show on Netflix, singing, and going outside to take big whiffs of fresh air!!) Anyways, side tracked! 😂 I went in at 37 weeks 4 days, doctor asked if I wanted to do a sweep since baby was large, I said yes! It was my first sweep ever so I was scared but the key is to relax. The more relaxed you are the better they can get up there to do an effective sweep. Mine lasted about 10 seconds, and I had a burning sensation after and felt kind of sore. 2:30 pm on Thursday. Well that night we were trying to do what we could to make the sweep work but not overdoing it. I didn’t have any signs of labor at this point but my cervix was soft in the office and I was *almost* dilated to a two. No cramping or anything following the sweep. Anyway, well my hubby got my fav foods, we ate pizza. Then I had about a 30-40 min walk around our backyard while my husband burned some limbs and my kiddos played. I got tired so I went in and showered, got on my ball throughout the night and just rocked/light bounced. Still 0 signs. My mother in law came later that night and we headed to bed around 1am. My husband and I were intimate twice. No soreness, nada. 👎🏼 2:00 am I wake up in agony but assume it’s Braxton hicks, notice I lost my mucous plug and was having my bloody show, but the on call doctor (not my OB) says it’s nothing. I try multiple times to sleep it just gets unbearable and I start tracking on an app. By 3am I was moaning and groaning through consistent contractions. We hop in the car and speed to the hospital. I was taken to triage around 4:40-5am today (Friday). I was checked and at 5cm, she didn’t even hook up the monitors they moved me because they knew I was staying. I go through these agonizing contractions being periodically checked. They’re checking me in, sending labs, and orders and such. I’m just dreaming of an epidural because contractions are kicking my butt. She gets 1 bag of waters on out of the two needed for an epidural and I finish. I’m watching the clock but suffering. (I found a tens unit, deep breathing, and a supportive partner extremely helpful during this time but it was so absolutely agonizing I lost energy to do anything else but groan and cry.) At some point someone checks, “she’s at a 7 where’s the epidural” I am barely through the 2nd bag at this point watching the time and secretly knowing an epidural wasn’t going to be a choice but in denial. 15 minutes later I’m laying in the bed, no nurse or doctor in sight just my husband. I go “ugh” and liquid shot out (I assumed it was pee) he gets a nurse who comes in to check my dilation I do the same thing and she goes “it’s okay if you pee there’s a pad down.” She walks to get gloves. My husband lifts the blanket, he says “that’s not pee” (my waters broke) right after that I scream “I’m pushing!!” My husband runs into the hallway to tell said nurse she goes “she’s pushing? Why?” (Reasonably so, since I was 7cm a few minutes ago). She goes to check and I push again, she runs to grab people and next thing I know there’s women surrounding and encouraging me, and I am having an unplanned natural birth. I just keep screaming “I wasn’t ready, that’s not what I wanted, I just wanted medicine and I start crying.” My husband was reassuring me telling me he knows and only a couple pushes and it would be over. I had about 4 pushes in total which would’ve been two had I not been traumatized by the pace and the new plans. TMI everything was coming out of everywhere, and I screamed and cried my way through it. It wasn’t my original plan to naturally birth but it was actually beautiful to feel my body naturally making fluid motions to birth my baby, I could feel the relief once his body was out and his feet finally broke free. And when they placed him on my chest it’s like it all didn’t matter. I also got to feel myself birth the placenta which was a strange feeling also followed by relief and it was my first pregnancy followed by alertness. I actually got to see my placenta, watch his cord be cut (doesn’t hurt mom by the way I always wondered about that.) and see that the sac has a gelatin like feel not some thin bag like I’d assumed. In the end it was very liberating though it started traumatizing. I would’ve loved to have planned a natural birth then I think it would’ve been Amazing. Baby was born at 8:13 am this morning, absolutely healthy! 8 lbs 2 oz and 20 in long! No nicu stay or issues other than monitoring his glucose levels because of his large size for his gestational age. I am up and walking and I actually don’t feel the amount of pain down there wise that I did in recovery with my previous little ones. My only advice is trust your gut, I could’ve definitely got the epidural in time had I went in when I called the on call doctor, but I didn’t trust my gut, overall though I feel empowered and awesome about my natural birth experience! If you’re considering it, go for it! The pain is temporary 🤍
I had one done at 39 weeks and nothing happened, had another at 40 weeks and didn't go into labor until a day before 41 weeks. I also lost my mucus plug at 37 weeks so we all thought I was going to go into labor soon 😅
I have polyhydramnios and gained 70lbs with excess water. Baby has been monitored via US each visit and is healthy, but currently I’m scheduled for induction at 39 weeks (Thursday 730pm) and have OB appt with for membrane sweep the day before (weds (945am). Really hoping for a successful sweep in order to avoid medical induction. Will try the breathing exercises due sweep and birthing. Fingers crossed, I do it right. 😊
My doctor offered one for me at my 39 week appointment. I declined it because I didn’t know anything about it. After going home and doing research I found out about increased chance of membrane rupture. She told me it could start my labor but never mentioned the possible bleeding, irregular contractions, and rupture of membranes. I am really glad I declined it because I went into labor naturally a couple days later without my water breaking. It was just another reminder that those sort of procedures are just routine but not always necessary. You have also do your own research so you can make the best informed decision with your doctor.
39 weeks 2 days got the sweep today :) I am 4cm dialated and 50% effaced, will update if I go into labor! It was uncomfortable but didn't hurt as much as I thought. My obgyn said that he is really low so it wasn't to difficult 😊
Unfortunately my little boy is wanting to stay in there lol 5cm and 70%effaced, he is approximately 9lbs 11oz so my obgyn decided to set my induction date for the 7th. Hopefully he comes out before then but if not at least I just got to wait a day (its set for 4am) 😅
With my first, I was half a centimeter, and my OB performed a sweep without my knowledge or concent; it was excruciatingly painful, I screamed and held on to my husband's hand during it, all I could say to her was "What the hell are you trying to do?!" I was 39 weeks, and I bled a lot afterwards, never went into labor and stayed a half centimeter, still needed a medical induction at 40 weeks and 3 days. I'm having baby #2 and mentioned this experience with my new OB and thank God she said she'd never do that to me without my consent. Watching this video I'm shocked that my first OB even tried to do one when I was hardly even dilated! She was extremely rough and I hurt for the rest of the day, it did not bring on contractions, just bleeding and pain 😔 probably won't allow one this time.
First time mom I'm 40 weeks next week today we talked about membrane sweep if she's not here by my next appointment I'm going to get it as well as set up a date to be induced just in case she doesn't come. My doctor recommended not going past 41 weeks
I found it to be uncomfortable but not painful. I was so scared it was going to be painful but that was not my experience at all. I did have a bit of spotting hours later. I would say everyone is different.
I am 1 cm dilated today at my doc appointment this morning at 39 + 1, and she performed a sweep. She said it didn’t work for her first two kids, but for her third kid, she went into labor that night at 41 weeks. My sweep only took 30 seconds. It was uncomfortable, but nothing I couldn’t handle. Hopefully it gets things happening for me!
40weeks today! I’m 1cm dilated and My OB offered a membrane sweep and I was hesitant at first bc I was scared of the pain. But I didn’t want to wait another week and get induced so I did it. Wasn’t as bad as I thought just a little more rough than a cervical check. I Had my first contraction omw home in the car! Now just waiting for baby to come ❤️
FTM and I was given one at 37+2 without my consent during an exam because I thought my waters could be leaking (they weren't). The midwife told me I was 2-3cm dialated, cervix was soft and that I would probably give birth by the end of the week Andrew she just said 'we're going to preform a sweep' but before I even had time to respond it was already happening. I didn't even know what a stretch and sweep was because I didn't think I would need to know what it was at just 37 weeks since if wouldn't be offered for a few more weeks. It's been a healthy pregnancy and I don't see the point in intervening this soon. It was very traumatic as I was bleeding and cramping for hours after it and was hysterical thinking I was going into labour and just didn't feel ready. This was followed by the loss of my mucus plug/bloody show 2 days later. It's been a week since and I'm just angry at how it all happened and feel upset with my experience.
Mucus plug came out the second day (the day of my induction). It didn’t jump start labor so I had to get induced on 3/24 and I think having the membrane sweep helped my induction. I gave birth to my daughter on 3/25 at 12:27am with no complications.
Perfect timing on this video! I'll be 38 weeks five days tomorrow, and my doctor and I have agreed to a membrane sweep tomorrow at my appointment. I am concerned about the discomfort/pain surrounding the membrane sweep. So we will see. Of course if I'm not dilated at all, nothing can really happen, so there's that. However, I'm so excited to meet this guy....I'm ready for him to come down and out, safely and healthily, into mama and daddy's arms.
I’m 38 weeks 1day and had a sweep done today at 1cm and it wasn’t a good feeling. It hurt but it was quick. I’ll do it again next week if I’m still pregnant. So far, I have cramping but I’ve had that going on for weeks. So we shall see. Good luck 👍🏽
@@karenruiz5373 Hi, my update is I gave birth on 11/8/2020 at 38w6days, I had contractions for the next 4 days after the sweep. It got really intense by the 3rd day but weren’t close enough so I continued laboring at home until the next morning and went in, I was 6cm dilated at 9:45am, had baby at 1:48pm 😅
Samantha M Thank you for replying! Congratulations on your little one. I have an appt tomorrow and I’ll get membrane sweep ( currently 38 wks 2 days). Last week I was 2-3cm dilated so hoping this will get things going. If not I’ll get induced Monday.
@@karenruiz5373 I would recommend the sweep. Won’t hurt you but prepare for what’s to come. I was so discouraged for a moment because my contraction would come on and then stop for a day and come back strong at night. I had more contractions at night than anything and it was so different than with my first baby. It was more back pain and butt contractions lol
I’ll be 41 weeks tomorrow with my second baby. My first baby I went into spontaneous labor at 40+4. Little nervous but I really want him out before a medical induction is needed!
I really wish I’d seen this video a few days ago! Here in the UK sweeps are offered at 38, 40 and 41 weeks (and then a medical induction at 41+5 if you’ve not started labour before then), I decided to decline at 38 weeks but then accepted a sweep at my 40 week appointment a few days ago. HOWEVER the midwife didn’t really explain the procedure (I knew it involved an internal examination), so when they shoved their fingers up there and it turned out my cervix was still hard, it turned out to be pretty painful and a bit shocking 🤦♀️ suffice to say I’m a bit more clued up for my 41 week appointment! Informed consent is definitely important!
I had this done my last pregnancy at 39+5 went into labor immediately after had baby in less than 24 hours. Don’t remember how many centimeters dilated I was
I wish I watched this video before my appointment today. I am 38wks 5days on baby #2 during my cervix exam my doctor forced my closed firm cervix open to 1cm and I tapped out before she could do the sweep as I was so confused why the cervix check was so painful then she explained what she was doing such as opening my cervix to 1cm herself and how I need it if I wanna do VBAC naturally and not have another c-section. So I agreed and she did the sweep since she already got me 1cm openes but I was not provided any information nor did I give consent to her first attempt nor did I give consent for a force opening of my cervix. 😕 Now I'm trying to do all this research about membrane sweeps, also force opening of the cervix as I have never heard of this being done during a routine check.
I'm so sorry you had to go through this. I had a sweep done yesterday around 4 p.m. I was dialated to a 2. it gave me some bad cramping but no spotting. I also am trying for a vbac because my c section with my last son 4 years ago has tramatized me. I am praying this works because if I don't go into labor by next Friday, i have to have a c section. Did you get to have the vbac?
@@johnking967 Hey yes I had a successful vbac at 39 wks 5 days just my cervix didnt progress properly it opened but tore because she was ready before my cervix but my baby girl came out successfully either way
Had it done with my first 2 times it was miserable and I was induced at 41.5 weeks soooo it did nothing. Said I wouldn’t do it again. I didn’t for my last two and I was induced with both of them as well. This time with my fourth I’m actually showing promising signs that I might go into labor on my own. However, at my last appointment I asked my Midwife to check me I was one and a half centimeters and she said that my water was bulging, and my cervix was soft. All of this was exciting because I’ve never dilated much on my own and especially with my last two when I was induced, my cervix had no change at all it was closed and high and tight. So at my last appointment after she told me how much I was dilated while she was still up there I’m pretty sure she did a membrane sweep whether she did it on purpose or not. She didn’t tell me she was going to do that and I was a little aggravated, she said that she was searching for his head but then she said that she had to stop because she didn’t want to break my water. That’s how rough she was being my baby moved his head. He tucked it into my hip because of the pressure she was putting on him. I believe he’s head down again but that was rough. She told me that there might be some bleeding and I wiped a lot. There was blood everywhere. I even bled through my underwear on the way home the first day it was red blood. I am now three days out and for the past two days it has been a brown blood very dark, I don’t know what it is. I don’t know whether it’s my bloody show or she messed something up. I was 37+6 weeks when she did it.
I think they’re great to avoid induction/cesarean if that is your goal but i didn’t have a good experience. I asked for one with my second child, I was over 40 weeks and impatient. I also didn’t do my research on them. Anyway I had a slow going 18 hour labor. It wasn’t terrible, but considering I had an 8 hour labor previous and my 3rd and 4th labor we’re around 8 hours as well, the membrane sweep labor was considerably more exhausting. I went unmedicated with all my labors too so a longer labor was definitely not what I wanted. Anyway I wouldn’t do it again but if it was between the sweep and induction for whatever reason then yeh I would take the sweep 🤷♀️ just my opinion/experience
Just got a membrane sweep done!! No pain no blood. Baby is moving a lot right now. Im 39+1 but will be induce next week due to medical reason if baby doesnt show up. Really excited to see if it works this time (its my 3rd baby). Got the membrane sweep done for my second, started to have very mild contraction during the night after, finally went to the hospital the following night as my contraction started to get closer, had my second baby only the third night after the sweep but it did work even if it was a slow process (i was 41+3 when the sweep was done last time)! Hopefully this time its faster😊🫶
I just had a membrane sweep today at 12pm I'm 38 weeks exactly. I'm 3 cm dilated and had cramping and bleeding which stopped around 5pm. My midwife said I should have my baby within the week we'll see.
An obgyn did it without consent during my first pregnancy at 38 weeks and a few days... It didn't work, but it started some very bad back pain that I needed to take morphine for. Even though I wanted a natural birth, I begged him to have me induced so the pain would stop. I refused the membrane sweep with my son because I was scared. Gave birth naturally at 40 weeks and 6 days. Now I'm in so much pain in my third pregnancy I actually asked my midwife for one tomorrow, at 39w6d. I'll have another one next year if this doesn't work. Hopefully this is it for us! 🤞
I’m 40 weeks and 2 days now at exactly 40 weeks my midwife was trying to give me a sweep but my cervix wasn’t ready yet. I have a scheduled induction in hospital in 7 more days but I really want baby to come on his own… my next appointment is in 3 days and will see if he can do the sweep this time. I’ve been doing the ball, raspberry leaf tea, primerose capsules, exercise and relaxation
@@shiloh.r4374hey hun I just seen this sorry but it actually didn’t really do anything lol I tried squatting, walking up and down stairs, curb climbing girl I did everything and I just went to the hospital I acted like I was in so much pain but my baby’s heart had actually stopped so they did end up putting me into labor. They induced it.
I just had this procedure done without my consent yesterday. I did not know why it was done. Now I feel informed and can take a conscious decision. The procedure was indeed very painful. Thanks Bridget.
I'm 41 weeks today and just had a membrane sweep done. It wasn't nearly as painful as I expected! Maybe I got lucky, but it was only mildly uncomfortable. Hopefully it works, otherwise I'll be induced in a day or two.
She didn’t tell me she would do that and it felt very aggressive and just uncomfortable because I wanted to be all natural and felt like she wanted me to hurry.
I felt the exact same way! I was offered and consented to the procedure. But I wasn’t told about the pain or roughness. It was horrible. After my doctor left the room, I was shaking and numb. I cried. I felt sick. It wasn’t at all what I expected. I have a high pain tolerance. This felt...like assault. Which it wasn’t and of course I consented! But I didn’t feel as informed as I should have been. And I feel like maybe he could have explained it better.
I’m 40 weeks today with my second. I’m 3cm dilated and 50% effaced. It wasn’t painful for me at all- just uncomfortable. I’m trying to avoid an induction so I consented to it; my OB did not do it without asking first.
I’m 39 weeks and 6 days. Tomorrow is the due date. Monday my doctor and I have discussed and scheduled a membrane sweep at 40 & 3. If I still haven’t had her by 41 & 4 we’re going to induce.
i am 39 weeks + 6 days, i got a membrane sweep done today & i am already 2 1/2 cm dilated. i honestly didn’t really know what it was & he didn’t really explain, we just are trying not to induce me unless absolutely last resort. the membrane sweep actually did not hurt me at all, it was just uncomfortable from pressure. i am noticing i am a bit more aware of my cramps..i will keep this updated to see when i go into labor/if it has worked for me. ❤️
I am 39 weeks by Today. I have done my Membrane Sweep with my Ob yesterday. If I am not yet giving birth in 2 days. I already have my schedule for inducing on Monday. Even I already dilated for around 4 to 5 cm.. Thank you for your info. God bless you
I've had them at 1 cm with 3 or either 4 babies they didn't hurt me some i bleed just a little some i didn't but the next day I was in labor with my babies Im get one this time they are so good to have and my opinion for me and my body
Had mine done today because I asked for it. 40w 3days. I was 3cm, 60% effaced and she had a hard time finding my cervix because of how soft I was and apologized for being in there awhile. It was not painful at all. This was my 3rd check as a FTM so maybe me being soft helped. I have been doing my perineum massages via my husband and I put coconut oil around the area too. So I've been used to the feeling of someone down there like that lol. A suggestion would be to make two fists and put them under your tail bone so doc can feel it more easily. Maybe my experience is different too because I asked for it. Trying to avoid my induction in 3 days. So far I'm feeling some slight contractions but no pain. Slight blood.
I had a membrane sweep yesterday at 39 weeks and 3 days. I have been having really strong contractions that are irregular and I've been spotting since it was done. I still haven't dilated past my 1cm. Is there something else I can do?
I have a membrane sweep tomorrow at 38w6d. Then I have to call the hospital Thursday at 39w to see if they have room for me. I hope it works! It’s my second baby and I’m already 4cm
I'm 39 weeks with my second and just had one today. It was pretty painful and she had to stop after a minute of doing it because it was so painful so hopefully it works or I'll be induced in 4 days. Fingers crossed. I've been cramping since she did it
Im sooo thankful for this video! I went in for 39 weeks today and my midwife asked if I wanted this done and I said no. Im so glad I did because I would not have been prepared for that and honestly think i would have been traumatized
I’m now 38 +1 and I’ve had 3 sweeps each 48 hours apart. It’s my 3rd baby I’m getting induced in 6 days and she’s sunny side up. Hoping to make labor go. I’m almost 3 cm
Girl I was in back to back labour with my baby I had in February. Wooooooooo those contractions in back to back. She was also 9 days late. Due to be induced the Friday morning 830am she decided she was doing this on her own terms and I went into labour Friday 130am and she was out by 4am.
1st child i went to a midwife. A lot I could say about her malpractice and unprofessionalism. I experienced what I think was a membrane sweep without my consent during labor. I was in excruciating pain writhing in pain begging her to stop saying please stop over again and she didn't. That among many other things stressed me out during labor, ended up in the ER with double the debt. Stresses mostly coming from that midwife.. all I should rather say. Such a disappointment. Now I know this is what she must have done to me without my consent. I want my money back, but one lawyers assistant I talked to said medical cases aren't really worth trying for...
I just got mine done today at 38 weeks 3 days. Didnt even feel it at all, but im hoping my daughter comes with the next 2 days. I ahve been 3 cm dialyed for 2 weeks
I had one done a few days ago, at 39 weeks, that day and the next day I really thought something was gonna happen then the 3rd day I felt nothing again… 😕 I’m nearing 40 weeks and I still don’t know what a Braxton hick contraction is.. I lost my mucus plug last week so at like 37-38 weeks. But Like I said I’m 39 almost 40 weeks and I feel almost normal, he’s still healthy n moving every day but I have not felt much pain at all yet…. Im still going to bike rides, tending to my little garden, cleaning house daily lol.. 😩😩 stubborn little guy I guess lol…
I don't know what to do. I'm so torn. I had a very traumatic hospital birth experience and was stuck in a 20 hour limbo labor. What triggered it was the nurse who said she was gonna "check me" didn't tell me she was gonna put her fingers up inside me and she basically rammed her fingers so hard up me she popped my water.. I was screaming in pain and terror and my husband was so angry he spoke to the head of the hospital and they removed that nurse.. but that set the mood for the rest of the birth.. They wouldn't let me do anything to get comfortable. I couldn't sit in a tub, I could be in labor positions.... Nothing.. they treated me like a sick paitent more than a laboring mother from that point on. I wasn't allowed to leave the room or move. They kept me in the bed and eventually I gave into an epidural which slowed the process down even more.... they gave me a catheter and my doctor kept pressuring me like with threats that if I didn't give birth vaginally he'd give me a c-section. When I was finally ready to have my baby I felt her coming out and the doctor was nowhere in sight, one of the nurses told me I couldn't push because he was suppose to catch the baby and they closed my legs... Overall my first experience of giving birth was the worst. I'm currently seeing a midwife whom I shared my story with and she was super saddened to hear my experience. But this past week she mentioned a stretch and sweep and I don't know why but I'm experiencing some anxiety over it. Probably because of my last experience. I'm going to ask her if it is even necessary.... But I don't know. Lots of anxiety over it knowing the pros and cons thanks to your video....
Very good. Informing women not to consider being touched until 40w first time and 41w in subsequent 🙌
You are arming women its fantastic!!! Membrane sweep requires CONSENT
It IS also a form of induction!!!
Thank you. I’m having this done tomorrow and I’m so nervous.
Thank you so much for sharing. I’m 39 weeks and this gave me a lot of comfort hearing your experience
@@kiwik2951How was your experience? I’ll do it 5 hours later😭😭
I’m relieved to hear it wasn’t painful! ❤
Oh waoo, thanks for sharing, I'm 41 weeks and will be having the membrane sweep done in few days. I hope it all work out as your😊
39w + 4d. 2nd baby. Getting this done today, fingers crossed we meet out little girl soon. UPDATE: procedure was done at 2:30pm & within an hour I began feeling cramps in my abdomen. By 3:30 am contractions started & our princess was born at 2:16pm the following day. ❤
Did it hurt?
Had one yesterday at 40+3 at 4pm it’s now almost 12pm the next day and nothing although the midwife said I was already around 2cm dilated😫 I feel hopeless now
@@ells2954have you tried anything else? The hip rolls on the yoga ball or curb walking?
Yeah i haven’t got a yoga ball although id loved to have had one. Curb walks I’ve done a little but not much, could probably do some more. My midwife said about colostrum harvesting..
@@ells2954yes! I did that as well that with my first & second. I’ve read that any nipple stimulation has been shown to be effective.
Thank God I moved to a birthing center. I’m so traumatized with hospitals. Praying for safe delivery this June.

Oh my gosh how horrible. I’m so sorry that happened to you!!
Agree. It was so traumatic experience. I cried a lot! I really hoped I can get till 39 weeks. At 38 and 3 days I think it’s early.
It’s like it took something out of me.. idk.
Thank you Bridget... had this before getting induced next day. I requested for it and yeah Alhamdulillah my water broke same night and labour started.
Please make videos about all procedures because YOU ARE THE BEST! I learn so much every time. Thank you greatly for making these videos!
Thank you for your breathing techniques videos and enforcing mind matters over everything and felt so in control as I was breathing through it and doing dhikr( praising Allah subhaan allahi wa bi hamdihi subhaan allahil adheem) in relxations between contractions
Alhamdulillah
MashaAllaah ❤
I'm so thankful for my membrane sweep with my second baby at 39 weeks😊 it put me in labor before my scheduled induction date
How soon did you go into labor after the membrane sweep?
Praying this happens to me. 🤞
I’m going through the exact same thing. Praying baby comes before my induction date 🤞🏼
Praying the same for me! I get my membranes sweeped Thursday! 😩
You had to work 12hours at almost 39weeks?! Holy moly!
Im 39 weeks & 3 days! Got the sweep today at 2pm, it was a little uncomfortable but didn’t hurt at all. Still haven’t get contractions, if this works I’ll keep you posted. Wish me luck ❤
Hey any updates, did you gave birth? I just got a membrane sweep today.
@@yileidymartinez218did it worked?
I'm getting mine done at my 37-week application next week!
immediately after your sweep, you may notice irregular contractions and some women experience spotting. In addition, if the sweep has worked, you may have a “bloody show” as the mucus plug sealing your womb comes out
I have a bloody clot come out , may be a mucus plug, and a lot of blood !
I had 4 sweeps done and even got a foley bulb at week 41. Labor still took some time and I went into labor at 41 weeks and 4 days. Though it was frustrating my little guy is here!
Long story short , baby comes when baby is ready !!! Lol
Same! Said he was going to check my dilation and then boom.
That is NOT informed consent.
What the heck! I hate that happened for the both of you
This is not legal at all. It would actually be considered assault. You should have been informed if they were going to proceed to go into your cervix and strip the membranes because it is a form of induction.
You should write a complaint. That’s out of order.
Awful, I'm so sorry. Please know we all have your back and he shouldn't have done that
I will have one tomorrow. I will have 40 weeks and 2 days…cant wait for it and fingers crossed 🤞 this will work ❤. Im at my first pregnancy .😊
It was a great experience for me
done it today I’m 39 weeks & 4 days first time stripping membranes painful experience, right now having contractions I’m 2cm dilated already Hopefully by 31 Halloween my lil guy is here 💙
That sounds wonderful!!! I’m going to ask for one tomorrow. I’m so ready to have my baby!😄
How are you and your babies??
I’m 4 months pp. I had a membrane sweep at 37 weeks, and whewwwww it was EXTREMELY uncomfortable, I could only tolerate the process for about 5 seconds. It worked though, baby was born 2 days later!
I'm getting mine done tomorrow I'll be 39 weeks exactly! And I'm nervous and tips?
Why did you get it done early at 37 weeks ?
I just got it at 37 as well and I’m scared. Why so early?
Do you remember how bad the cramps were? Iv been having bad cramps since he did the sweep yesterday. Kept waking me up through the night
@@777loveu sorry this response took so long. It wasn’t severe during the day, kind of like period cramps.
@@ash.bash. it’s all good! The “cramps” were contractions
I had one done at 38w 4d... it was excruciating. More painful than labour and birth for me. Worth it though as my son was born 27hrs later! He was measuring two weeks ahead.
Dang. I wish my labor and delivery were less painfully than a membrane sweep.
@@Erinleigh116 labor was painful (until the epidural), but I would still describe the sweep as excruciating. Due with number 2 the end of this month and will be getting my sweep next week+

Woah perfect timing! I'm 39w+6 today with baby #2 and have an appointment today with my OB. If I'm dialated enough I'm getting a sweep to hopefully get things going 🙌🏼
Did you end up getting the sweep?! Curious how your labor went! :)
Would love to hear more open questions to ask the ob midwife to find out if we need procedures
perfect timing! i’m 39 weeks and i have an appointment in a couple days where i was gonna ask my doctor about this. love your videos!
3cm dilated and haven't feel any labor
Wow amazing
My membrane sweep was incredibly painful, I bled and was shaking from pain right after. I was 38w, I am in Canada and that's what the OBGYN recommended. Next time I will wait longer. I was a first time mom.
Imma get one at my 40 week and 4 day appointment if i still dont have my baby by then, im really hoping i do becuz my doctor said they will induce me if i go over 41 weeks T-T im 39 weeks and 2 days right now and still no labor, i hope i go into labor this week already
Im in canada as well
Just want to add my story since I read so many going into my sweep!!
I tried everything under the sun to prep for labor but in my opinion the only things worth trying are:
- Red Raspberry leaf tea 2-3 cups a day
- Evening primrose oil in the last two weeks (kept me from tearing all 3 pregnancies, used two punctured capsules as a suppository.
- Water
- Controlled breathing
- Rest and things that calm you and bring you happiness (mine were playing with my kids, candles, magnesium baths, a nice show on Netflix, singing, and going outside to take big whiffs of fresh air!!)
Anyways, side tracked!
2:00 am I wake up in agony but assume it’s Braxton hicks, notice I lost my mucous plug and was having my bloody show, but the on call doctor (not my OB) says it’s nothing.
(I found a tens unit, deep breathing, and a supportive partner extremely helpful during this time but it was so absolutely agonizing I lost energy to do anything else but groan and cry.)
At some point someone checks, “she’s at a 7 where’s the epidural” I am barely through the 2nd bag at this point watching the time and secretly knowing an epidural wasn’t going to be a choice but in denial.
Very useful comment..Thank you.. appreciate it.
Good job!!!
39 weeks 2 days got the sweep today :) I am 4cm dialated and 50% effaced, will update if I go into labor! It was uncomfortable but didn't hurt as much as I thought. My obgyn said that he is really low so it wasn't to difficult 😊
Did they send you home
Unfortunately my little boy is wanting to stay in there lol 5cm and 70%effaced, he is approximately 9lbs 11oz so my obgyn decided to set my induction date for the 7th. Hopefully he comes out before then but if not at least I just got to wait a day (its set for 4am) 😅
I am 38 +1 today and just had a sweep done. I was 4 cm 50% effaced. So I'm hoping I'll have this baby soon
Did you read my mind????? I've been looking this up to ask my OB today at my appointment
Did it work? My stats are the exact same
40weeks today! Now just waiting for baby to come ❤️
Did labor come?!
What happen next
40 weeks and 5 days. I had my membrane sweep today, praying it will work. I will check back if it works. I’m scheduled for an induction at 41 weeks.
How did it go?
Any updates ?
Update: nothing happened and I had another a week later my due date is in 3 days and my induction is a week from then 🙃
@@mohsinasheikh2721 hi is the cramping after getting the sweep too painful or bearable? Thanks.
@@msgeminii9955 not necessarily i was walking it feels like period cramps. The sweep itself is painful I had to do deep breathing 😂
I literally just got mine and im 2 cm dilated. Praying this works
How quickly did it work?
@@shiloh.r4374hey hun I just seen this sorry but it actually didn’t really do anything lol I tried squatting, walking up and down stairs, curb climbing girl I did everything and I just went to the hospital I acted like I was in so much pain but my baby’s heart had actually stopped so they did end up putting me into labor. They induced it.
Thank you so much for this information. Very helpful 🙂
Can you request for pain relief before or during the membrane sweep?
I just had this procedure done without my consent yesterday. I did not know why it was done. Now I feel informed and can take a conscious decision. The procedure was indeed very painful. Thanks Bridget.
Had it done without my consent today, was more like it as told, now I’m having irregular contractions and back aches , hope this isn’t a slow labor 😂
I went to the zoo last week and the picture in the thumb nail is exactly how they showed us how to pet the sting rays 😂😂😂
Omg 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Okay this is just too funny 😂
Hahaha
Had mine today it was not as painful as I thought , I'm actually a lot more comfy now not so much pressure now , just breathe through it
I'm 41 weeks today and just had a membrane sweep done. It wasn't nearly as painful as I expected! Maybe I got lucky, but it was only mildly uncomfortable. Hopefully it works, otherwise I'll be induced in a day or two.
Did it work or did you have to still get induced?
Did it work??
Am 40 weeks today and having the sweep tomorrow, hopefully it will work for me 🙏🏽
Did it hurt?
Even though I believe it did help me go into labor when the OB did it I felt so violated I cried after she left the room.
Same. Terrible
Wow ty guys
I’m 40 weeks today with my second. I’m 3cm dilated and 50% effaced. It wasn’t painful for me at all- just uncomfortable. I’m trying to avoid an induction so I consented to it; my OB did not do it without asking first.
39 weeks & 5.. just got this done a few hours ago, praying that it works! 😩🤞🏽
Did it?
Did it work ?
I’m 39 weeks and 6 days. Tomorrow is the due date. Monday my doctor and I have discussed and scheduled a membrane sweep at 40 & 3. If I still haven’t had her by 41 & 4 we’re going to induce.
Thanks for your encouragement that I am made to birth and am caple of what it takes and that I am my best advocate I really needed it
i am 39 weeks + 6 days, i got a membrane sweep done today & i am already 2 1/2 cm dilated. i honestly didn’t really know what it was & he didn’t really explain, we just are trying not to induce me unless absolutely last resort. the membrane sweep actually did not hurt me at all, it was just uncomfortable from pressure. i am noticing i am a bit more aware of my cramps..i will keep this updated to see when i go into labor/if it has worked for me. ❤️
Any update?
I am 39 weeks by Today. I have done my Membrane Sweep with my Ob yesterday. If I am not yet giving birth in 2 days. I already have my schedule for inducing on Monday. Even I already dilated for around 4 to 5 cm.. Thank you for your info. God bless you
just got my membrane sweep! i’m 40 weeks and 6 days. let’s hope labor starts soon 🤞🏻
Did it??
I just did a membrane sweep today, and it was the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced in my life sigh waiting to give birth now tho
Had mine 24 hours ago. Hoping it works.... 3 weeks later... It didn't work... I had an emergency c-section.
Did it work? lol
Nop. And it was bloody uncomfortable lol. If she doesn't make an appearance I'm going for a scheduled c - sec since we were trying vbac..
I had my membrane sweep at 39 weeks, 40 weeks, and 41 weeks but nothing happened and I ended up needing to be induced!
Same here. Sometimes your body just has different plans, especially the first go around
Got a sweep at 39w4d and lost my mucus plug the next day. Waiting on actual labor now!
I've been cramping since she did it
Updates please
Im sooo thankful for this video! I went in for 39 weeks today and my midwife asked if I wanted this done and I said no. Im so glad I did because I would not have been prepared for that and honestly think i would have been traumatized
I got a sweep at 40+3. I went right into labor
I’m having mine done on Thursday , I’ll be 40 weeks and 3 days! Oh good god I hope it works !
Soooooo I never had it done , I ended up having her at 40w2d ! I went into labour at 40weeks and technically 1 day since it was around midnight !
I think my OB just performed a membrane sweep without telling me. I'm just over 40 weeks and now have bloody show
I’m now 38 +1 and I’ve had 3 sweeps each 48 hours apart.
This happened to me with an obgyn I met for the first time at 39 weeks... I felt so violated.
I just got mine done today at 38 weeks 3 days. Didnt even feel it at all, but im hoping my daughter comes with the next 2 days. I ahve been 3 cm dialyed for 2 weeks
What about when you're pregnant with twins? When would a membrane sweep be considered?
Just had my membranes sweep today. I’m 39weeks 1day. I’m 2 cm dialated. I’ll check back to see if it helped me :)
Did it help you?
@@nckyoutube yes it did :) my water broke the next day in the morning!
