Taking a boat off a trailer - My first time putting a boat on blocks

- How to put a boat on blocks - In this video I am taking a larger boat off a trailer on land for the first time in my life. I have a Boston Whaler that needs to be removed from a boat trailer. I don't have the proper tools or equipment to remove my boat from the trailer on land, but it needs to be done - so I am using what I have! A bottle jack, a roller car jack, some concrete cinder blocks, some scrap wood and I watched a video on UA-cam! So what could go wrong?
Removing a boat from a trailer and putting a boat on blocks can be a tricky job and it also can be very dangerous - so please keep in mind this video is for entertainment purposes and NOT an instructional video showing how to remove a boat from a trailer on land.

00:00 Introduction
01:40 How I plan to remove a boat from a trailer on land with basic tools
03:12 Step 1 - Lowering the trailer and bow of the boat
03:30 Step 2 - Setting blocks under the stern of the boat
03:52 Step 3 - Raising the bow of the boat so the stern rests on the blocks
05:05 Step 4 - Remove any straps or chains holding the boat to the trailer
05:50 Step 5 - Pull the trailer forward - which doesn't work
06:16 Step 5 - Jack up the bow of the boat and move trailer forward
07:10 Step 6 - Relocate the bow support to move the trailer farther forward
08:13 Step 7 - Remove trailer cross member
08:49 Step 8 - Relocate the bow support and move the trailer farther forward
09:29 Step 9 - Final placement of the boat bow support!

Awesome job Wayne and great video! Love the “realness” you share with us during the process. You did it bud!! And thanks so much for the shoutout in the beginning, much appreciated amigo! Can’t wait to see how this project comes along! Cheers!
And thank you for your wise words!
Wayne: easily my favorite part about your channel is that you’re figuring it out as your go in all your videos. You’re not an expert. I can relate 😊
Thank you! Some of this stuff can seem really scary until we actually give it a try.
Your neighbors must love you.
We ALL have boats!
After the stern was on the blocks you should have chained the stern of the boat to a tree or the base of a stake behind the boat, no slack. Then when you pulled the trailer forward the boat wouldn’t pull forward with the trailer. Then proceeded with your original plan. Much simpler and faster than how you did it.
That probably would have been easier!
That's what you call hillbilly engineering do the best you can with what you got to work with. Trying not to loose a finger in the process. Good job Wayne.
Moving the cross brace was the clincher I was surprised how far you could roll forward after good job brother
saw this in the boat facebook group!! nice video
I actually loved the music, kinda reminded me of muscle beach bingo or gidget
Tip: use large foam blocks to rest the boat on. Benefits are that it molds to the boat and it doesn't damage anything. I used them on my pontoon boat
Weight of the boat should be resting on blocks and a 2×4 on top, under the keel beneath the transom. Side blocking are only for support and to stabilize The boat would be more stable and safer to b we under there moving the jacks...safety is priority.
Great job Wayne ! Love your videos, can't wait to see more on this boat and getting it in the water.
Thanks - there's part of me that wished I had plopped it in the water before pulling it from the trailer - just to see how good/bad it is!
You could build a pair of a-frames with a 4x4 across them and hoist the bow
Congratulations
Nice job Wayne, I enjoy your videos 📹. Keep 'em coming!
Thanks!
Good job👍
You can tie the stern to the tree behind the boat and drive fwd slowly and put the blocks down after going fwd a few feet. Put some type of plywood of old carpet pieces between the boat and the block to not scratch the hull. It should slide off pretty easily and to put it back on the trailer, I used the winch on the trailer and I disconnected the trailer from the truck so it pulls the trailer under the boat.
That seems like it would work quite well!
Excellent work with what you had on hand.
I still say flip her over. Which is easier said than done.
you could have a fan meet-up, coupled with a block party tug of war.
Thanks!
Well that's a bit screechy! But the thing about it I have to do that with my boat real soon. Thanks Wayne!
I can't say enough about a elcheapo $50 12v winch, makes a pile of things easy to move
I like seen videos in the same area I live in
What kind of boat is that. Looks like a good start for a good fishing skiff.
It's a Boston Whaler Nauset - so yeah it would make a great fishing skiff!
I just got a 12' fiberglass boat but they brought it to me on the bed of their truck. Now I have to figure out how to get it on the trailer when I get it... Probably going to have to pay some people to help me lift it. I can't even lift one side to put something under it.
If you have some jacks and boards, and some imagination you might be able to work it out.
You should get some wood and make a boat cradle .. then you can simply slide it off
Naw that’s not shady here where I live we would call that Sand Mountain engineering 😂 great job ! I bet there are some parts for a Mustang Gt laying somewhere around your house 😂 just kidding buddy great video !
Launch onto the grass and roll it upside down for an easier time to antifoul the bottom. This will require a helper or twowhen winching back onto a new trailer. Viewing with interest from Westcoast Vancouver Island!CHEERS
woulda made sure the bunks were wet, if not oiled up a bit.....otherwise, well done....
3:10, sound plan, but if you block up the back, then crank the trailer hitches to the sky, you can block the bow up that way, an move the trailer ahead, block up the "mid-ship" then ahead one more time to re block the bow up and the ti be good, but I just started the vid
0:30
Yup that would bt my first option but have blocks laid out get the ol'girl to land on, maybe some tires fer cushion
You did get to wiegh it, didn't you? I have a Glastron Trihull from the Sixties in that length, it was so heavy with water logged, but now it is so light.
No, unfortunately we didn’t weigh it.
Why didn't you put it on the ground? If it is on the ground you can flip it and work on the bottom.
Because apparently it’s harder to put back on a trailer when it’s on the ground.
4 tripod and 2 two inch rachet straps strung between them underneath the boat. Done. Wish you'd asked me first.
Yeah I don't have any nice boat jack stands around here... yet!
@@WayneTheBoatGuy if you had made 4 tripods about 3_4 foot higher when opened than the boat, set up in pairs on either side, possibly with a brace across if it is to be up long term, and used ratchet straps underneath, the boat could be lifted and left hanging to be worked on or until you were ready to wer it onto another trailer.
@@fhorst41 That's pretty cool!
Lol it’s Luke’s trailer.
I think this is how the pyramids were built
lol
I block boats for a living at a boatyard on the eastern shore of MD. If you have any questions about blocking boats next time, reach out to me
Front part looked a complete faff. Rear part was fine but a A frame at the bow to hang the boat would have been a one hit system.
Jim's little boat ( UA-cam channel ) is also a good method and he gets a 22 foot yacht off his trailer.
Yeah - I would have had to buy materials to build an A frame though - and I was trying to avoid that
@@WayneTheBoatGuy Fair enough ... I am forgetting some guys do not keep a good selection of timbers and fixings in stock .
I need to flip my Nauset so I can redo the bottom. Any ideas ??
It is on a trailer now? If it's up on blocks like this one, I would try to tip it on it's side and then lower it upside down with either 2-3 other humans or some means of mechanical assistance. Then jack it up on each "corner" to rest on the gunnels.
@Wayne The Boat Guy Alright ! Sounds easier said than done though...lol
That was a efford to get it on blocks.
Looks like there are lots of trees around. Could you have used a rope & pulley around a branch to lift the front of the boat up?
Unfortunately all the limbs are very high and not close enough to the spot I needed to put the boat.
It worked. Good job but it looks dangerous. I would not want to be under that boat when it is jacked up like that.
1:35
It's not tomany boats , it's not enough space
Just give the guy another hundred or too for the trailer and skip all this hassle
This was a special circumstance - I only got the boat because a friend needed a trailer
