- Blade and Soul: Revolution is out now ! bit.ly/ThatWorksBNS . Join us as we forge a fantasy Integral Katana from one solid piece of steel. Making this sword was a real challenge. Forging it on piece and then carving a ton of details into the handle. This video shows some great blacksmith forging and a ton of stock removal techniques to create detail. Blade and Soul did an amazing job designing this sword and it was fun bringing Twilight's Edge to life to celebrate the launch of Revolution.

Check out Blade And Soul Revolution that is out now ! bit.ly/ThatWorksBNS ! Thanks for watching and be sure tell us in the comments below what build you want to se us do next !
What is the blade made of it...and If I went back in time 800 years would that sword be functional as combat weapon. I remember Aragorn's sword on man at arms and I think that one would be. I think this sword is beautiful just sure about functionality
hey guys are there any times when i should grind in a bevel vs forging it or would it not matter
9:38 ive never seen that before why did you take it to the wheel while hot
@@samartcrafts_1910 wasn’t a sanding/grinding wheel. If I understand correctly it was a steel brush wheel. For coloring. Similar to the brass effect added to the pommel.
OoO
You two working together must be just about the best team on the planet.
Well dang I’ve been watching these two create absolute master pieces for 7 years today, the first episode I saw was links sword on man at arms. They bring so much knowledge and creativity to everything they build and it is always awesome to see the process of forging done from stock to finish rather than just plasma cutting or CNC to do it faster. To me it showcases the craftsmanship and skill these two bring to the table.
Keep up the good work and thank you for all that you do!
Thank you for noticing that!
Absolutely incredible. The grinds in that handle are so intricate and I still can't believe Ilya forged that complicated pommel out. So glad you two went your own way and started this channel
Many thanks and respect from Korea! This is absolutely a piece of art. Especially that handle and pommel reminds me of ancient Korean chivalry sword, 환두대도(Hwan doo dae do, which means big sword with ringed head).
That handle looks neat. Like deamn, this is beautiful
Thanks ! Turned out pretty slick!
@@ThatWorks agreed
Somehow it hurts seeing the sword dragged through the dirt... Such a beatiful peace of art.
I was thinking the same thing
yeah but its also a tool, and the people who made it didn't think it would damage it so i think its okay lol
Piece
they're all blacksmiths, they can fix a few dings
But that how an anime sword would be dragged. All dramatic n shit.
I think I put a suggestion for this up for man at arms years ago, not ever expecting it to be made. and now I am extremely overjoyed to see that it has come to fruition.
One thing I'd like to see you change is volume levels, your voice is waaaay to quiet, especially compared to music which blasts the hell out of our ears
Yeah, I noticed this in one or two other videos, the sound balance between voice and bgm needs some work.
🤣🤣🤣
You're absolutely right
Yup, I was already mentally wording the comment in my head while watching, I'm glad I'm watching this at 3AM, 'cause if there was any amount of noise around I'd need to have the music blasting my ears to be able to hear him. The music is cool but we're here to see you guys make stuff, which includes hearing you talk about it, Matt!
the smoke swirling, the background music and the smith checking out the sword after quenching it in oil give me chills.. nicely done.
Absolutely nailed it mate, such great work.
By far the most insane 'nazing take on a magical "full core build." Would love to feel the balance on thid magical piece and how it performs
Oh my god Sean Bean! I didn't know you were a fan of smithing!
Thanks brother! Means a lot!
Recommendation: always show us the complete piece. It's cool to see the details, but we also want to see the general outlook of the sword/axe/katana. Amazing job as always!
I was starting to wonder where Ilya had disappeared to, and I'm happy I found this channel. Glad to see you two creating this channel.
It must have been a pretty nerve racking build... Any mistake and the entire thing gets scrapped. Came out beautiful!
Just about as much as normal really !
Cool.
like that big crack 1/2 way through the sword at 9:07 ? ? ?
@@robertmiller5735 it's just the pommel... It's fine. Well spotted tho
The nice thing about steel is that, with the right welding skills, you can always add material back if you take too much off. Tig is probably the best at that because you can use the same steel used in the blade as fill and using an argon gas unit means that you don't burn up the carbon in the steel since the gas displaces oxygen.
I love how Matts grinding skills have such fluid movement and definitely understands how to see with your hands
Nice work. The single piece instead of multiple pieces for the full build was rather interesting. One day I'd like to see The Harbinger done from the Fable game. Very interesting design for that one.
Both of you never fail to do forges. It looks exactly in the game! ❤❤❤
I would love to see you build a "Holy Avenger" from the D&D Dungeon Masters Guide.
Or a vorpal sword.
Or flame tongue
But yes! Yes to all of these!
That would be fun!
@@ThatWorks I would love to work with you guys one day.
I've always had a keen interest in the craftsmanship of blades of all kinds. Its more an art, rather than an weapon of war.
This is probably one of the best one piece sword creations I have ever seen, and I've seen many, love how Ilya formed the curve of the blade, and how Matt did the simulated japanese ito wrap, SO cool. Thought the pommel was interesting too in how you twisted it into shape, GREAT job guys, once again!!
*That handle looks absolutely gorgeous.*
Badass sword, guys. So cool watching you make this.
That reaction at 13:12 is just too good. Great work as always
:o
One piece construction is one of my favorite things in blacksmithing.
I can totally agree with that. The result looks so solid, so integer, so whole.
Matt and Ilya are my favorite. Between the both of them I don't know who I like more they're both unique in their own ways. Most impressive.
Wow both of you really showed some serious artistry in this build
Beautiful build , I can’t wait to see more great builds.
7:20 "it will cut"
In all seriousness though, this is one of my favorite builds. I just love the way the handle is done.
That handle design
I remember I once sketched something similar but different
I never knew it could look this good
I'm definitely gonna use it when I have time
Wow. I am absolutely amazed. That's gotta be the most beautiful sword I've ever seen
The sword looked a bit simple in the promo bit at the beginning, but seeing it come to life as you made it, WOW that piece is gorgeous
I think this is my new favorite build
Always great to see more from you guys, I’d love to see more historical recreations
Love watching y'all do these builds
Blade and Soul is an excellent MMO, I'm glad that you guys chose to forge a weapon from there.
The most beautiful handle I have ever seen.
yes because holding onto a cheese grater is exactly what you want to do.
@@Gantzz321 Does not look sharp tbh, but I do get your point. Plus it could be painfull for the hand as it is not "soft" like leather covered wood.
The end sword looks really nice. The detailing work on the hilt and pommel look fantastic.
Also, I may be in the minority, and I imagine that it's pretty difficult to capture, but I miss the sounds of the sword being forged, the music is okay and all, but I the sound of hammers and power tools ringing out as the metal gets shaped really helps with connecting to the video.
That handle came out beautifully. Nothing like relaxing and watching a forging video.
amazing video and project again guys! usually Ilya wows us with his detailwork (and he totally does during the forging with that beautiful expansion and twist of the ring) - but Matt with the pommel was the winner for me. LOVE YOU GUYS
you guys are amazing, incredible dream team. Matt's grinding skills are off the charts
holy mother of swords, that is a good looking blade over there guys o.O
I love this show. I’ve been following u guys for a very long time now. I’ve been hooked since. My favorite is the kill bill sword.
Красивый клинок, великолепная работа. Впрочем как всегда. Илья, Метт вы лучшие. Удачи вам.
Ohhh my days 🤯 now that’s truly stunning, absolutely smashed it guys , man I love this channel you guys never ceases to amaze ✌️💚🤘
I would love to see you guys build a Heron Mark sword from Wheel of Time.
You guys demonstrate so much talent, and not just the smithing but also video content. Props to you guys, keep up the good work.
watched you guys since awe me and you all were my inspiration for carving weapons, (since im not trained in smithing) thanks for fueling my passions
This was awesome! While we’re on the topic of mobile games, I think it would be awesome to see a real life version of The Infinity Blade from the series of the same title. It was a classic mobile game and still holds up all these years later. It’s design is one of my favorites and the color and texture is almost that of bone. I’d like to see you guys tackle something like that!
It's gorgeous and I love that we got to see every step of this sword's creation. I miss Illy's book reports tho
I have been watching you guys for over 5 years. I’m so glad to see you guys break away and do your own thing now. You guys are geniuses. Would love to buy some merch from you guys.
I've been waiting for you guys to forge swords out of one piece like this ever since the scissor blade. It feels like a hole within me had been filled. Thanks.
How about forging Gimli's double-bladed axe he got from Balin's tomb?
We do love our axes!
@@ThatWorks LOL!😂
Isaac Kim :-)
Its gonna lit those jealous elfs
@@jinan_hwasal And it still only counts as one!
Man, you guys do great work. I’d love to see your take on the scimitars of Drizzt Do’Urden from R. A. Salvatore’s novels. Twinkle and Icingdeath. You guys would knock it out of the park, no doubt.
Man! Blade and soul is my all time favourite!! So stoked you guys finally did this one!!
So well done! Favourite build so far!
that looked awesome, i'm learning bladesmithing and ngl I hope I reach this level of craftsmanship someday
Stay at it! You can! I believe !
Best wishes to you fellow crafts person, from a woodcarver in north central Washington state USA
Beautiful work, amazing result, congratulations!!!
You guys dont know how long I been waiting for you to make this blade, Thank you for the great vid.
Annnnd just when I think my freehand grinding skills are decent, Matt flexes that brutal overlaying symmetry!
The double hollow with an arc....
*Puts head under power hammer
Id love to see you guys make any of the swords from the Destiny universe, Im just imagining a life size Dark Drinker or Raze Lighter or even a Lament with working chainsaw blade haha
That sword is absolutely gorgeous. Magnificent job
Your grinding skills are impressive Guys ! Another great video.
The feel you get for the blade must be pretty incredible, with the whole thing being a solid piece.
Though I don't know how well the design fares when it comes to balance and weight.
True, but with video game swords it’s always more about looks then practicality
@@ThatWorks true to dat.
JANEMBA'S SWORD!
Someone - MADE HIM ALREADY!
P.s. I REALLY want to see it from you guys!
This is a True BlackSmith Masterpiece with Pure Kata Forging. Unblemish & Unbeatable
so nice to see how much yalls videos have improved since u started on ur own keep it up u2 are awesome
Wow. This is an insanely cool build.
I would really like to see you guys make the Mortal Blades from Sekiro, especially the black one but both would be cool
세상에, 진짜로 귀천검을 만드셨네.......... ㄷㄷㄷㄷ 굉장하십니다.
역시 양덕형님들의 손제주는 최고입니다.
Oh Jesus, you really made the Twilight's Edge.
I will inform other Koreans about this.
It's really cool.
Very impressed with this one. Such a cool sword design, all one piece. Even just on video, the sword looks like it FEELS comforting in the hand.
Such a fine and beautiful metal art piece, yet deadly and primordial
Fantastic craftsmanship as usual from you guys. Super sick sword.
Guys, please make Vergil’s Yamato from DMC 5. You guys do the ornate katanas better than any other smiths on UA-cam.
Considering it for sure
@@ThatWorks understood. Much respect for the handle forged here. Probably the most intricate metalwork I’ve ever seen on UA-cam.
Would be pretty cool to see their take on Shinobu’s sword, since it has a small blade
Glad to see you guys back in business. Man at arms is no longer the same without you. Great video great piece
Glad to see you guys branched out, how have I only just found this out though.
I would love to see you guys makes Prince Zuko's swords from the last Airbender.
Zuko called would like his honor back
Can you do Bell's Dual Knives from "Is it ok to pick up girls in a dungeon"
Kami-Sama 😊
Your choices of music for the soundtrack of this video are once again very solid.
Absolutely amazing grinding and dremel work on that handle. This is a gorgeous sword.
I love you guys stuff. I was wondering have you ever thought of doing a forged on fire like episode with other blacksmiths as a friendly competition?
Ilya was on Forged in fire! He won!
Idk if there’s any osrs or rs3 fans that watch the show but doing a godsword build would be sick
This osrs AND rs3 fan would agree, or some swords/weapons or armor from rs3 would be sick too.
@@DarkSword271 heck yea do anything really 😂 when you have 99smithing and 99 crafting the options are limitless
@@zackypoobaby U know whas funny? Those two skills will be the first 99s on my acc ever. working on smithing currently lol. so far: no 99 yet.
Your production quality has shot up exponentially. If you are still doing it all yourselves then that is impressive. On par with the Man At Arms videos. You and Ilia were the main reason anyone watched MAA anyway. 😎
Just came from the Forged shield episode, glad to see you guys have some awesome work
You now gotta do the "Kris" from the latest Disney Cinematic Annimated movie: "Raya and The Last Dragon"
I would love to see you build Clouds Fusion Sword from final fantasy
Wow.. The entire sword are made from one solid steel.. That's a great work from matt and illya..
By the way.. I'm really happy to see u join together and made a new channel.. Im looking foward to see another great work and craftmanship from both of u guys.. Already subs this channel 👍👍
Your guys work is, as always, stunning.
How many man hours go into making something like this! It's incredible!
Wheel of Time weapons.... Maybe starting with a heron marked blade.
Ho the memories, what a great book saga. Matt's spear or Perin's hammer would be great too
I've been looking for this FOREVER! Here's to hoping this gets boosted up!
With the BnS:Revival announcements, this video couldn't be better timed. Beautiful work on the blade!
I'm just constantly awed by the artistry of your works.
Really shows the experience of the master grinder on this one Matt. What an epic sword build guy's. Once again my hat goes off to you both
Thanks Luke!
Gaun Yu's green dragon crescent blade form Total War: Three Kingdoms.
What a cool and ambitious concept for re-creating this blade. Amazing work, then again, what else should I expect? We are talking about two highly skilled and committed craftsmen. Great job you guys!
Gorgeous, simply amazing as always.
It gives me a "crafted metal fang" sort of feeling. Not sure why
Blackblade Reforged from Magic: The Gathering
I'd rather see the masterpiece version of sword of body and mind.
@@LukeH930 yeah, that would be pretty damn epic too
This is absolutely amazing. I've loved this game since I was a kid. It really is amazing seeing this coming to real life.
Watching you guys work is always a delight. Once again you bring us blade and soul(heh heh).😁
Gawr Gura's Atlantian Trident.
Harder mode: No painting, only bluing the steel.
Ask Royer for the proper blueing technique. 😃
Speaking of integral swords, I would love to see mea culpa from blasphemous.
That could be a fun challenge
Yeah. Do that one.
Never stop challenge yourself huh...
Ilya, Matt, you had experience with some buster swords. Time to check out Wolf's Gravestone from Genshin Impact. Game has many interesting claymores, but this one is especially interesting design and one only can imagine what a feat it would've been for a blacksmith to make such one.
Amazing work as always guys, wish you best!
Most satisfying part of a quench is when you pull it out and see that transformation in color.
