    I like the way you explain and make the full tutorials, there were so many mistakes i''ve did because lack of skills and wrong ways to do it, also the way it's free and available for everyone is really appreciated. About the assets, it's really nice that you make high-quality assets on low price under 100 euro so like everyone can make an indie game visually good as an AAA company game keep up in this way !!

    some tips to improve that workflow:
    1. regarding getting more control points: below the fractal noise level strength per step, if you set the first step, step 1 (or the second as well), to value zero, you will gain a lot more control points as well, you do not necessarily have to increase the size of the mesh for this, the size of the mesh should fit what you need
    2. your world creator resolution should fit unreals landscapes overall resolution, this way you also wouldn't have to deal with the error message and your landscape from world creator wouldn't get distorted and streched for nothing
    3. before export from world creator, in the export tab, activate the "flip y" option. Otherwise your landscape would be flipped and not like you set it up in world creator!

    • @rushboardtechuk
      @rushboardtechuk 5 років тому

      I think a deep, underwater expansion should be reserved for later. However, a good stepping stone could be a "coral reef", akin to the Grasslands pack. This content would be only be placed a couple of metres below the waterline, and slightly above it, enabling the skylight to illuminate it. There could also be aquatic plant meshes.
      These can vary on their rock content (i.e. volcanic, tropical or temperate) which, with the biomes shader, would offer more possibilities for users - hot springs, for example share properties of reefs, but with volcanically eroded surfaces and vibrant colour tones.

    Great video! I am glad you got around to making a video like this. I would agree that modeling software companies need the WSDA keybind movements, it is the main reason I have given up multiple times on Maya/3ds max/blender

    • @HavokSage
      @HavokSage  5 років тому

      Yup, it's 2019! the option should definitely be there. All of the old 3d software has horrible flymode implementations.

    • @MarioCardonaS
      @MarioCardonaS 5 років тому

      Blender has WSAD keybind navigation.
      You need press Shift+F first.

    • @leecaste
      @leecaste 5 років тому +1

      Maya also has this type of navigation but this should be an option not a replacement, I find WSDA for 3D work uncomfortable and very slow compared to traditional navigation.
      As I said, being optional is the way to go so everybody can choose whatever they want.

    • @HavokSage
      @HavokSage  5 років тому +1

      @@leecaste it may come as an option first, but I expect it will outright replace eventually.
      The muscle memory is hard to develop if you don't have it. The next generation won't have that problem as they're going to learn these game engines before DCC's. The superior control scheme will take over eventually. Just a matter of time now unreal and unity adopted it.
      Game engines will replace almost all offline rendering within the next 10-15 years. Octane in ue4... rtx. Game engines will be the first port of call for future creatives and designers. The rebranding and positioning is already happening with unreal studio.
      Eventually modeling tools and rigging will come to game engines. I know this because I've seen it working. CryEngines crydesigner was already lightyears ahead in this regard. CE was also the first big game engine to have the wasd control system.

    • @leecaste
      @leecaste 5 років тому

      I don't agree with that, not everybody that gets in the 3D industry needs a game engine, the only benefit from a VFX studio perspective would be render times but right now it's only viable for few specific cases because the rendering capabilities of game engines (even with raytracing implementation) are far from matching mature production offline render engines and the developers of these render engines are not sleeping while unreal keeps developing.
      Superior control scheme is your personal opinion, and may be useful in an environment like in your video but if you are modeling a car for example, this navigation is slow AF and in orthographic views (which are used a lot when modeling) WASD would make no sense.
      Next generations will have diverse interests like every generation, in the VFX industry young people show a lot of interest in Houdini or Blender for example and don't even mention game engines, in the game industry I'm pretty sure it's the opposite.
      Game engines are just another tool that, as you said, will keep adding features but DCC software will do the same.
      Being an all in one software that outperforms specialized tools is extremely difficult if even possible.

    Wow, I've been waiting a long time for this video!!! Thank you very much, your work is really awsome The size of this landscape is 64km ?

      hey, this one is just 2km across so quite small. it's actually bigger than a lot of people would expect though. takes a bit of time to walk all the way across it.
      64km^2 would be if I kept the setting at 8192x8192. You can go up to 64km^2 with a single landscape, the settings are here:

    Did you work for Wildcard Studios or something because a lot of your assets look similar to theirs. At first I thought they purchased your packs but they published their game in 2015 and your packs were not available until 2018. Really beautiful looking textures though, amazing job.

      Brushify assets are all my own original IP.
      I have never worked with studio wildcard, but I do know some artists and producers there.

    Watching this exactly a year later! Saw you changing the fog settings which came with the sky & atmosphere system in 4.24 I think. It's been that long already!

    Hi Joe hope you are well and enjoying the fruits of UE5. Because this tutorial is so great and indeed popular. Is their a possibility that you could create an updated version using World Creator 2022 and UE5? I for one am struggling getting heatmaps across. The principles are perhaps still the same its just the settings are different or not in the same locations.

    Wish this tech was around when I was at kid, we had one computer in the whole school locked away in the physics department with the radioactive materials and it likely had the processing power of a piece of Lego. I would have had a whole different career.....one that actually speaks to my soul rather than sucks the soul out of me.

    Really great video man. I've just started learning UE5 after having used Unity for a couple of years and I recently found your assets. Very cool. WIll no doubt buy one and try it out.
    Do you recommend World Creator for creating terrain? I was trying out something called Gaia Pro in Unity and that could generate procedural stuff. I would rather not keep buying more tools if its not worth it but you have made World Creator look pretty useful. Are you using it because its better than what you can create in UE5? Wondering what the benefits of it are? Thanks Joe
