Yes! I completely agree. When I think about scrolling of anything nowadays I can hardly think of any good memories or actions in my life made while scrolling. But those memories of those early youtubers inspired my creativity to plan a fun slumber party, learn to DIY something, plan a challenge with my friends , film something JUST FOR FUN. Those memories stick because they impacted me in a greater way. The intention should not be to keep the viewer on their phone but to impact them in the real world.

So very much agree with all of this. I love making videos with you and I love making videos on UA-cam in general, but It's way too much to be at the mercy of trends and algorythms just as a way of life. Proud of you for sticking to your values and own unique purpose, above all else, that's what shines through the most.

You said it best!! I always think, “what am I doing mindlessly scrolling right now?” I always try to pick up a book to read instead or just talk to someone. It’s hard but I know it’s worth while and I will create a more meaningful life.

lately I can’t find ANYTHING that I love on youtube and I feel awful watching content just because I’m bored. But I ADORE your content joy! I feel better after watching your videos rather than sick of the internet. Thank you! ❤️

the feeling of disgust you described after scrolling for hours has made me deleted all social media from my phone. It must be really difficult for you as a content creator to create balance and peace of mind around the time you spend on social media.. but then on your videos your really seem to have it under control. I really admire that!

Oh my gosh I resonate with this so deeply. I gave myself a challenge to post on TikTok everyday for a month (after deleting it for most of last year) and honestly felt so unfulfilled by the "content" I was consuming and posting. It's crazy how quickly our brains adjust to those low value dopamine hits of instant gratification. I deleted my account and the app again a few days ago and it's helped me reevaluate why I create and what I want to kind of videos I want to be creating more of in the future. This video could not have come at a more perfect time, thank you for sharing Joy xx

Yess omg UA-cam back then was different. *Usually silent subscriber so I dont know what to say* but just know that you impacted me with this video today (immediately started to plan for an upcoming trip with friends), and lots of your other videos! This January was the first time I did the detox with Joy and it was truly great. Will continue✨ Lots of love out of the void of the internet 🧡

Joy, just want you to know, that I genuinely love your content because of your vision and perception of the world. I prefer this cinematic autobiography videos rather than shorts, reels and other dopamine seductive short pieces. I think, that’s a big problem for today’s society, a lot of people just can’t concentrate on something longer than 30 secs if it’s not something extremely revealing or crazy..
But one more time, I want you to know, that we exist, people enjoying your videos because of you, not the trends❤️
P.s. Yes, I saw these videos with guys, but subscribed only later, when saw puglia video of other travelling one

I almost cried listening to you saying all that. Because I related so much with it. Because I've stopped writing more songs, because I'm so busy thinking of a way how I can post a reel every day to keep the algorithm active. I've stopped enjoying creatives processes that cannot be shown on social media, because it would be boring. If I am happy with something I've created, that happiness only lasts until I see, that the algorithm isn't showing it to anyone. That sucks. Your word resonate with me and I am so frustrated by this. So much, that I actually thought of stopping to make music, because I hate this system. :(

I absolutely felt this. thank you for this. and you are right, it is sad that i found your channel through the asking guys what girls are scared to ask trend. i wish i was pushed to your channel another way because i value the other videos you do WAY MORE than what i was originally pushed to 😢. i follow you because of your creativity and originality and talent. i only follow a handful of people and i’m so glad you’re one of them ❤

It is so interesting seeing this possible shift taking place on the internet from being just sick of the algorithm to just wanting more authentic creation and connection. I truly think its a cultural shift, not only creators but also viewers wanting this. Appreciated this peek into your mind

You have spoken so well joy! I myself definitely try to follow a certain amount of people and subscribe to them, and keep up with their lives. I started watching your videos a little over 2 years ago and really resonate with your messages. I'm on a journey of trying to become my best self one step at a time and your genuine videos really inspire me! Whenever i'm feeling like I need direction to be more grounded or just need to watch something positive with value I come to watch a video from you to make me feel better about myself and inspired to keep going and it makes a hugeee difference! I normally don't comment on anything but going with the theme of the video I want to thank you for still continuing to make videos despite the algorithm challenge. The world needs more of this type of content!

Thank you for posting this video! You’ve influenced me so much in a good way. I’ve learned to dig deeper into my thoughts, perspective on life, consumption and lots of other things. And this is all because you are such a genuine person who shares your thoughts and life as it truly is and not anything else. You’ve made me realise things about my own life, about what I truly want and need to feel more happy and like myself and that it’s totally fine to not be like everyone else all the time. Once again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, hope you keep posting more content that’s valuable to you and so many other people

Love you and your videos Joy! I will always come back to watch them. You are so articulate and you perfectly capture something that so many people experience. Over the years without even properly realising I now only come back to the people on youtube who are authentic, self aware and reflective because I get so much more inspiration and purpose from them and I don't go away feeling awful or unworthy

I loved this Joy, it is so true.
Growing up I was always a follower/shy kind of girls within my groups of girlfriends, and constantly trying to fit in by liking the same things, wearing the same clothes… as a teenager I finally found my individuality and felt so confident - I feel like sometimes being a creator in social media gives me that same feeling of loosing my identity.
It is not worth it to hide our uniqueness in exchange for higher numbers! We will look back and we will feel proud of sticking to ourselves 🤎

thank you for this! i've been thinking about this a lot lately, why do people feel the need to post when they don't really have anything to say - just so they could get a like and feel better about not having anything to say? we all struggle with oversharing sometimes, and that's how we fall into the black hole of mindlessly sharing and consuming - but the first step is awareness i think... idk, it makes me sad that people sometimes don't get how much effort it takes to really make something, so much that i even caught myself thinking "what's the point in taking this much time doing something that someone will watch and forget, together with a bunch of lip syncing videos with 1m views". still haven't watched the damon dominique video, i will, and thank you for the reminder. i'm optimistic that the paradigm will shift somehow, until then, don't forget that you ARE awesome! and this video is awesome too!

yes, you're so right. It's sad that we are just scrolling trough several apps for the next dopamine kick and forget the creators who really put effort in their videos. That is a reason for me that i've never started my own youtube channel because I don't wanna do all these things to get views and do quantity when for me it's all about quality in every video!
Thank you for saying it out loud

This resonates so deeply. Thank you so much again Joy. You always speak with such authenticity and love, we feel it, it radiates. This has inspired me even more to keep going with the stuff i create, not for views, or subscribes or anything else, but just because I love creating these little movies, and that's what feels right, right now!
    With oceans of love,

I'm not a creator but a few people I follow (inc Damon) have talked about this lately. It makes me sad to see, as I am a long time fan of UA-cam and I guess I'm old school but I only really watch videos from people I am subscribed to. I appreciate the content you make and I can only imagine how frustrating it must be when videos don't get the response you hope for.

My mantra is: I get to be me and simply show up. I allow anyone who deeply resonates with me to find me. And if not me then who? When I have the desire to create or speak about something no one has talked about before, well who is going to provide that for the world if not me? We are all answers to someone's prayer. The outcome is not my concern because my job is to show up and be me. That's work enough I feel :D Great to hear from you again! xo
