    The basics of pump installation
    When installing a pneumatic diaphragm pump, anyone who is not familiar with pumps and pump installations will often make small mistakes that result in costly damages.
    Here are some useful tips that will save you having to learn the hard way.
    1) The diaphragm pump must be mounted onto a rigid baseplate.
    2) The suction port size must never be reduced.
    3) The suction pipe or hose must never be smaller than the suction port size.
    4) The suction pipe or hose must be as short as possible and preferably never more than 5 meters
    5) The discharge pipe can be reduced subject to design requirements within reason.
    6) The pump must have a dedicated air filter/regulator installed.
    7) The air pressure must be regulated to 29psi on the first startup, especially if the pump is fitted with TEFLON diaphragms.
    8) A cycle speed of 60 to 70 cycles per minute is ideal for long life and a low cost of ownership.

      Question on #5 why can't it be short as we want, I have a 250 gallon bulk tank for waste oil, and I'm literally mounting the exact pump in this video to the tank, so the discharge will be maybe 2 feet long, is that a problem?

    I use a 1/2 inch diaphragm pump for waste oil. I have pumped 10k + gallons with it from 25 degrees to 120 degrees outside temp in Southern AZ, and hit pump with 100 psi instantly and let her go. It's been good to me going on 7 years and it lives outside on the ground or tossed on a barrel. I use 12' hydraulic hose from Tractor Supply for suction and discharge, works great.

    Install a drain hose from your oil pan to a fabricated bracket to the frame rail , install hydraulic disconnects . Use single wire strand hydraulic hose .

    Never seen an air powered pump before. Kind of pricey but explosion proof. I use 5 gal buckets but that works great in your application. Thanks, KIT d

      can't use it to pump anything flammable like gas or acetone due to static electricity could cause an explosion, and acetone would damage the rubber diaphragms anyway, but as for as fumes being in the room yeah no worries. This actually was cheaper than what a quality electric gear pump capable of pumping thick oil cost.

    Diaphragm pumps are fantastic pumps.. We used 1/2 inch, 1inch, and 1 1/2 inch.. You would have to see it to believe how much fluid the larger pump will move...

    Oil is heavy and with those long hoses it did real good. Pretty cool.

      yeah i thought it did pretty good considering how long i left the hoses. actually it pumped faster than i thought

    really good but noisy pump.. also don't forget to use clean water to flush it.. get's clogged otherwise.

    It sure slowed down when the oil entered the pump. Worked great . For the amount of oil you dump I wonder if you could burn it mixed with diesel in your heater.

    • @LifeWithChase
      @LifeWithChase  6 років тому

      I tried that once and it didn't do real well. I think if it was cleaned with a centrifuge and mixed at a real low mixture maybe 10% oil and 90% diesel it might work though

    Dang that's fancy. I dump my truck oil into a 15 gal rubbermaid container and scoop it into 5 gal buckets w an old water jug.

    • @LifeWithChase
      @LifeWithChase  6 років тому +1

      yeah my previous method was something like that. I thought this method would be better and i can pump the oil back out of the drum as well if i wanted. I built a pipe with a screen on the bottom that would stick in the drum bung and connect to hose.

    If it's the same truck you change oil in....A quick valve deal in place of the oil plug would be great with this pump..Just bypass the oil drain pan altogether..

    • @LifeWithChase
      @LifeWithChase  2 роки тому

      I suppose you could do it that way. I'm a little leery of the oil change valves because I figure if you ran over something and it hit it that it could break off. So I prefer the plug. Just my thoughts.

    Next time, plug one of your outlet ports. 1in npt. Then regulate your air pressure to start at 40lbs, slowly open ball valve...i mean like 5lbs at a time, that way the pump primes properly, and works more efficiently. I cant even watch the rest of this...6 min in....yes, I am a hydraulic mechanic of 15 years

    • @LifeWithChase
      @LifeWithChase  3 роки тому +1

      Figured out it's more efficient and uses way less air pumping slower, this video is from a long time ago. I just crack the ball valve maybe 1/4 if that seems to work well...

    • @muthatrucka76

      That's BS on the priming..Those pump aren't like gear or vane hydraulic pumps..Not gonna damage anything by not priming it..That's why it has a max psi because they know people are not gonna prime..

    Hi, could you tell me compressor specification for this pump can work?

    • @LifeWithChase
      @LifeWithChase  3 роки тому +1

      It should work on just about any size compressor. I have found out if you close the valve to where its almost closed and the pump pumps very slowly is the most efficient and uses not much air. The faster you want it to pump the more air it needs, but if you're not in a hurry it uses a lot less air with it pumping very slowly.

  • @isocheme

    What is The amount of air needed to worke 2 hours without stop ?

    • @LifeWithChase
      @LifeWithChase  5 років тому

      I'm not sure, but I've found that you can lower the amount of incoming air with a valve and it only slightly slows down the pumping speed. So it seems more efficient.
