That’s literally the exact same way I felt with alcohol and opiates. Literally “wow! This is the real me, the me I’m supposed to be!” Only an addict can fully understand.
This is exactly what alcohol does to my brain. I am 28 and I drink daily. Not because I want to "forget the pain" (because I don't really have any). It's because I'm much more motivated to be myself and make something out of my day. I know it's hard for non-addicts to understand but I know exactly when to stop and what my limit is. Small example; My vocabulary is broadened, I am motivated to leave the house, take out the trash, call my mom, keep up with my friendships, write this comment.. the list goes on. I understand it's a mental illness.. just like Anorexia. We are killing ourselves with the amounts of alcohol we consume on a daily basis.. but I feel on top the world when I have a few drinks. Unfortunately my mom denies her stay in rehab, my grandma died of alcoholism as did my uncle. It runs in our family. Good luck to everyone who want to be helped and reaches out! I'm sure you can do it if you truly want to change!! God bless all

She is so natural and sweet, I wish only the very best for this amazingly talented and beautiful woman. Thank goodness she got rid of that silly man. I miss seeing seeing her
I know this could be short and there are many silly comments under it, but this clip has always meant a lot to me. In my fight against alcoholism, it wasn't just me who felt like I was finally alive when I drank. unfortunately it's a false feeling and you actually less alive than you are when you don't drink, but that's certainly the feeling you get when you're an alcoholic. Finally I am fully alive.
Alcoholism is not a disease it's a choice..my dad stopped drinking when I was born, my mom told me he was an alcoholic. But when she got pregnant he chose to stop and he did it was hard but he did it, it was his choice to stop.
You don't choose to press a self destruct button when it comes to alcohol. It just happens if you have a certain biological make up. You also can't ask an alcoholic why they chose to drink in the first place because hey guess what? It's legal and everyone drinks (or seems to).
This is where genetic testing at an early age can be a good thing. If people know from an early age that they have the gene/s for alcoholism, then their parents and others can move heaven and earth to try to make sure that they don't take that first drink.
