Larry Hagman was born to play J.R.
It's hard to think of a more villainous villain of TV!
He still will always be Tony Nelson to me.
JR will always be associated with Larry to me, forget Nelson.
His laugh at the end is pure gold.
But she basically left Ray and Lucy out to dry.
And to think they were considering casting Larry Hagman in the role of David Banner on The Incredible Hulk. What a mistake that would've been. Bill Bixby was born to play David Banner and Larry Hagman was born to play JR.
JR was pure evil ! credit to Larry Hagman for his acting skills .
When Miss Ellie speaks, even J.R. listens. 😂😂😂
She was always against him AND Jock, virtually all the time. Must have been awful to never have love or support, from your own mother.

I know it’s just a show but Miss Ellie had no authority to make any decisions when it came to the company, like selling the oil that JR was stock piling.
I forgot how good this show was...I was 8 years old, hooked on this drama that I could hardly understand. 😂😂😂

Decline & Fall of civilization, friend. Look at how people used to dress just to go to the supermarket in the early 1960s. Since the late 1960s society has backslided.
Say what you will about JR but he had taste, dressed well and drove fine, classy cars.

It’s ridiculous that JR gets blamed for not “running Ewing Oil the way Jock would want.” Jock knew all about JR’s plan and gave him the go-ahead.
The family has rose tinted glasses when it came to Jock. They never thought about who taught JR all he knew.
Jock was a good man and in his old age wasn't as devious as JR, but he once was and like you pointed out he greenlighted this whole plan because he also wanted John Ross back.
@@jokerz7936 Good points. It also speaks to JR's character, and his deep loyalty to Jock, that he doesn't immediately tell everyone that Jock was 100% on-board with the plan.

This was such a fantastic show from so long ago it feels like a different life. So much has changed in my life since this show was on, but it still is awesome to watch these clips. Thank you for sharing and posting these.

I never understood why everyone loved Dallas when I was a kid. Good grief was this a compelling scene and know nothing about the backstory. Wow!! I’m extremely intrigued and would be watching this every week. The actors here are amazing. The mom was incredible.
We were driving our mother crazy with deliberately guessing the freeze frame at the end too soon.

The mistake they made was taking Miss Ellie's power over Ewing oil after Jock dies. We never got moments like this after that.
JR got what he wanted, he is a winner.
Miss Ellie started off strong, then wilted like a flower in July Texas heat. Even when it came to disrespecting his Mama and Daddy, he'd do anything to win. Love him or hate him, J.R. always wins in the end.

Donna Reed & Jane Wyman were superb dressers As Miss Ellie #2 and Angela Channing. Poor Bobby, he still had to keep Christopher a secret. Also if circumstances were different, Miss Ellie would have been perfect. I would have reminded JR how he almost destroyed the Family with the Asian Deal a couple of years ago.
I disagreed with Mrs. Ellie. JR was the perfect candidate to run Euwing Oil!
Miss Ellie calls for a vote to oust JR from Ewing Oil, has Lucy and Ray show their hands, and then votes her own shares for JR to stay. Complete waste of time and made Ray and Lucy look weak. JR always won, and he DESERVED to! haha

It’s extremely unsettling the way family is mixed with business here. I feel terrible for all involved. What a great lesson for anyone thinking of going into business with family. Respect is completely lost for JR on so many fronts. And then the humiliation of having everyone vote against him is crushing.
JR Ewing was a psychopath. Save your sorrows for people who deserve them.

I just watched this episode today. This was probably my favorite season. Ironically every episode leading up to the cliffhanger was outstanding. Unfortunately the cliffhanger itself was kind of a letdown compared to other cliffhangers. Actually, I totally forgot about this one. Where Cliff tried to commit suicide. 😳😳. Oh, and on a personal note, Patrick Duffy was looking extremely sexy in this episode. 😊😊❤️❤️
Looking back at this show it's amazing to absolutely zero technology in any of the offices. A multiple line analog phone is about as fancy as it gets. Try and run a business like that today

The first few years of Dallas were pretty good, but once Jock died, it lost a key character that was never successfully replaced.
Ray was too busy sleeping with all the women, Pam, sue Ellen, Lucy, Donna, garnet McGee, Bonnie, jenna, to ever be able to run Ewing oil.
Larry Hagman was fantastic.

Every CEO today wanted to be JR Ewing.
Why would Clayton buy oil from the Ewings at $32/3 (whatever it was) when the market had it at $30? Expensive, even if to buy a favor.
He may have thought he could get more oil from Ewing at a lower price. Going forward, showing a good faith effort.
He was having to shut down his refineries and lay off workers because they didn’t have any oil to refine. Also, with Sue Ellen and John Ross having already left, Clayton no longer had to refuse JR to protect her. If Clayton had waited a few more days he may have been able to buy the oil out of foreclosure at a lower price than what he agreed to with Ellie, unless the process would have taken longer.

Shouldn't this have been an in camera vote, with JR out of the room? I don't remember: did the family also serve as the board to Ewing Oil? It's very weird that JR also got to vote. Normally, in this situation, he'd not be allowed in the room.
They're all shareholders of the company. Every shareholder gets a vote, no matter what they're voting for.
@@volvoguy804 shareholders would normally elect the board, who would then appoint or elect a chairman and president. I can’t remember but I don’t think the Ewings were the only shareholders, were they? Didn’t Digger Barnes have some shares or did he get rid of them early on to Jock?
