I decided to look up who the actress was in the Video Nag and apparently she's now a professor in college teaching Theater. Good on her.

11:50 There actually was a series of videos featuring women in swimwear shooting assault rifles. An Australian comedy show called The Late Show did a review of one such video titled "Sexy Girls with Sexy Guns" back in 1993.

I remember purchasing a video tape back in the early 90's that was essentially a 5 minute recording of a kettle being boiled. It was a sale item going very cheap and a spur of the moment purchase, done purely for the hell of it. The premise was to do with the, at the time, Prime Minister in the UK, John Major, who had the reputation of being rather boring, dour and humourless. The video was one in a series of videos, (I've no idea what the others were), that described things that the PM would find, 'interesting', to do. I remember watching it once, then put it on the shelf with the rest of my videos and complete forgot about it. I've no idea what happened to it.

I think the VN was trying to be like Peg from Married With Children. Unfortunately for her she didn't have the same level of subtlety nor an Al Bundy to work off of.

You really took one for the team this time Benny boy. The first one, at the end, would end up as the sequal Tgrow Mamma from the train, as "Throw the Nag off a cliff" preferably the Grand Canyon. The second makes me remember what I missed when I did not know about my dauggter at that age. While I miss that time with her, watching this, I am glad about the sleep I gained. Happy 250.

Seeing this actually makes me wonder if there were any second-rate, low rent, 90's computer animation compilations.

As a child in 1991, I would have found it really annoying and uncomfortable. As a 40 year old, I find her Shrewish Persona to be incredibly grating,forced and too contrived. Yeah. She Just Annoys me.
I mean, to be fair, the Video Nag does want to make me turn it off out of spite, but then that would result in an "I don't know what I expected" moment.

Video Nag feels like a genre of stock video for the background in movies or something to be sampled in electronica.
5:06 The first thing that came to my mind about that unfunny type of comedy from the late 80's to early 90's is, *The Tracey Ullman Show.* As a kid I used to think it was so cutting edge. As an old adult now, I think it's pure garbage.
It spawned The Simpsons, which is also pure garbage now, but still on the air! Every early Fox comedy had that style, but only Married With Children aged well.
I kind of want Chris Fleming to recreate the Video Nag. I feel like he could easily capture the same energy

I like that the things the Video Nag calls the viewer out for are now just mainstream culture. Snacks? That's 'selfcare'. Batman Cereal? Nostalgia industry and superheroes are big money. Video games? 20-to-30-somethings playing games in front of a camera while 'performing' is a (rarely but possibly) lucrative job that kids aspire to. We don't have arcades anymore, though. Video Nag isn't that forward thinking.
I dunno, I'm not sure I agree Video Baby is the less egregious video. Sure, it's benign, but it's pretty dull. At least Video Nag has the 'Huh...? What...?' factor in its favor.

Also, Video Nag feels like Great Value version of Karen Finley monologues minus the sociopolitical subtext.

Video Nag feels like someone's audition tape to a bad, offbrand SNL type show, forcing her unfunny character in the process. I just don't get it. If it's a gag gift, it's clearly for Bachelor Parties for everyone to cringe to and say "now that you're married your man parts are in prison. Yukyukyuk." And it doesn't work on SO many levels. She's too young looking, and she has to convulse her face to look remotely ugly and unpleasant. Even if I'm to believe this is a couple in their early to mid-30's, she acts like someone who was trapped in a bad marriage well into her mid-late 40's, so it feels like there's a disconnect. It's hard to give that, "sure. That cute girl you married is cute NOW..." feel they're going for when the woman in question looks like a bad early 80's Madonna cosplayer. And she just doesn't have the comedic chops to have any of that land. I could see someone with talent, say Andrea Martin, pull this off with gusto. But this one? It's like she's going for over the top, but she just comes off trying way too hard and giving a below theme park level of overacting.
I also get the feeling that they were trying to go for an emasculation fetish demographic. Only people who could get any enjoyment out of it.
Emasculation is something that ONLY Duckman got right with the Sexually Frustrated Sister-In-Law Femnazi Bernice Huffengal, but the actual fetish of men being talked down by Shrews is incredibly complex and tedious to pull of. Video Nag completely falls flat on its Ass.

I will admit that I could not make it through this episode, the VIDEO NAG segments were that bad and for the cherry on top, the woman in that atrocious video is now a college professor for theater. If this isn't a commentary on the current crop of "actors," I don't know what is. Anyway, congratulations on 250 episodes, my friend. Here's hoping for 250+ more.
