25 to life sounds like a "we find the defendant *incredibly* guilty" sentence for tax stuff.
"Incredibly Guilty" need to be a "thing"!
"Okay, Marge, if anyone asks, you require 24 hour nursing care, Lisa's a clergyman, Maggie is 7 people, and Bart was wounded in Vietnam"
The guy in the thumbnail looks like he’s going to steal that car
Worse... He would probably download one.
18:02 ~ LOL great minds think alike, I guess. Within a second of the logo starting, I was like "Hey, that sounds like the THX Deep Note!". Granted, it's not the actual Deep Note, but it's very similar.
i am absolutely in awe of the incredible dirtbag energy of the copdar coupon. a pack of camels, or 80s dirtbag guy sunglasses, as size reference, just absolute chef's kiss
The wild part is that the Camels are NONFILTER Camels. Even in 1986 no one under 50 smoked those! Source: Smoker since 1976.
@@jamesslick4790 would you even make it to 50 if you smoked those lmao
Hey, don't drag my aviators into this.
@@TheBronxBunnyMan loud and proud
"It's not a pyramid scheme, it's a downward funnel!"
It seems more like a tetrahedron arrangement.
Reverse pyramid system
14:31 I'd love it if somebody made a design for the Minnotte family crest (complete with fully-detailed tube of Crest toothpaste) and turned it into a painting so Ben could hang it in the background.
👍👍
28:08 I'm sure the computer named HAL is trustworthy.
I was hoping someone would pick that bit up.
"talk your way out of it" is quite possibly the worst advice when dealing with the police. 😂
It IS INDEED the ABSOLUTE worst advice. The only thing is to take the ticket and DON'T offer ANY "excuse" to the cop AT ALL. (Save your "story" for court)., If you are ever arrested, Say NOTHING AT ALL (aside from providing ID...) Say NOTHING except "I want a lawyer" AND then say nothing more. (Don't even say "sorry"- This implies guilt, and it WILL be used as evidence against you!) Source: Grandfather was a cop. HE gave me this advice decades ago!
@@jamesslick4790 This. Groveling before Law Enforcement is probably the DUMBEST thing anyone could ever do especially in regards to Traffic Violations.
Hey, now we know what Jim Dangle was up to before he transferred to the Reno Sheriff’s Department.
Ben, I bet you claim your whole house as a workspace. lol
Given the storage situation, I probably could.
Dude, your riffing in so on point. You should have a job on the new MST3k.
18:25 this soundtrack brings me joy.
I Love it, reminds me of a cheaply made late 80's buddy cop movie 😅
Fun Fact: The other day I was listening to my scanner. The Police were in pursuit of a speeder. Since it was only a traffic infraction, and the speeds were getting excessive on major road, they terminated the chase, So...The speeder got away. Um, He was driving a Ford....ESCAPE!!! 🤔😳🤣
that parking receipt rant KILLED
Alas, it's 100% true.
9:33 Harrison Ford gets his taxes done here!
20:39 Uhh... no. One thousand times no. A patrol officer can't simply walk up to your passenger side door and open it without a warrant. I call shenanigans.
that one guy is awfully young looking to be a retired police officer ~~i wonder what happened~~
Love the riffing Benny!😂😂😂
Would pointing out the irony that the producers of the first "How to beat DA MAN" video actually couldn't redundant? And hell, is that Michael Rye doing the narration for the second video? I don't think I'd be able to take legal advice from Duke Igthorn.
I now have this mental image of Duke Igthorn having a side job of giving traffic advice while not going after the Gummi Bears.
"You won't have to worry about inconvenient appointments, only inconvenient depositions!"
Woah, not even Green Lantern himself can tell me how to get out of a speeding ticket!
Nice to see all of Kate Bush's work on the shelf, oh and great entertaining vid (even though i'm a Brit and don't drive!)
What's that funky track from "How to Beat a Speeding Ticket"? It kicks.
Geez that judge has a temper problem.
Frames or No Frames. Life’s tough decisions were so much easier back then.
It was certainly a blast from the past for me.
Remember the Taxmasters commercials a decade ago?
"We'll make sure they treat you fairly and treat you with respect"
That video from Renaissance you showed and riffed gave me late-90s/early-2000s educational video vibes.
I thought that was Ben Stein behind the desk early on in the video. 😂
The cop Steve Munday seems like he's from a Carpenter Brut video.
Steve Munday was a Glendale based CHP spokesman in the age of CHiPs
$199 for a BASIC 40 channel CB in 1986?!?😲 The HIGHEST END Radio Shack mobile CB of that era was about the same price and it was not just 40 AM Channels, but also 80 LSB/USB sideband channels! The equivalent radio to the one shown in materials with that tape was about $80 at Radio Shack then. Even IF you were able to get $50 off, you were getting center loaded right up the PL-259 (if ya know what I mean..LOL) Source: Worked at Radio Shack in the mid 1980s.
$550 in 2023 says inflation calculator. I think more though.
So they put the the copy machine next to toilet when you have a home business.
Nothing goes better with your K40 Portable Radar Detector than a fresh pack of Camels.
Good these videos make me want to rewatch Better call saul
"Michael C Cooper", the infomercial "Bill Cooper"
Well, what I can say about these videos is that I have spent the afternoon reading actual tax writeoff and speeding ticket advice from random sites online. Who says Archive isn't educational?
Its ALWAYS been educational.
Happy Oddity Thursday!
5:28 Benny-boy and Candomble, I never thought I would see this two together.
Wonder if they made that speeding ticket video available in states like Virginia, where it is illegal to own a radar detector? I'm sure the coupon would mention that in the fine print.
"Including former irs agents" (who were fired for giving tips on how to defraud the irs)
Rick Bierand ... mores like Rick Drinks Bierand Drives
Radar detectors are illegal in my state...
Geez, the music on the last video sounds like 80's cop show music. I outta know, I grew up in the 80's.
This was hilarious. The first one is slick but a pyramid scheme big tine. The second one would not work. 64 in a 25 and you don't go to jail is just asinine. And yes, I do own some Renaissance albums. Ashes are burning. Great work Ben. You took two for the team.
8:56 patrick Duffy/ bobby Ewing
64 miles an hour in a 25 mile an hour speed limit zone? If all that person got was a speeding ticket, they would be thinking they’re lucky stars, I don’t know about most states but here in Tennessee if you’re anything above 15 miles over the speed limit, that’s instantly reckless driving!
Back in Beautiful Downtown Aurora, 20 over* was an instant arrest and impound (at least, it was as of the time I left--no idea if that's still true).
*If memory serves
Knowing Colorado, from what I hear, it is probably worse.
64 in a 25 is definitely "get a lawyer" territory, but the general advice isn't too bad.
Keep your hands on the wheel, treat the officer with respect, show up in court. I wouldn't try to litigate the case with the officer like that one lawyer was saying, but "don't explicitly admit to anything" is good advice.
In AZ, anything over 15 is considered "criminal speeding".
@@OddityArchive Wow? Seriously, it was THAT Rigid in Aurora and Denver?
Ben's Auditor: Sure Ben you're deducting some "Assorted VHS Repair Supplies and Miscellaneous Reel to Reel Tape Player Components" as well as "Around $10K assorted slightly damaged Flea-Bayed Hi-fi equipment". I trust those deductions just as much as I'd trust leaving my girlfriend alone with Jerry Dahmer.
A better choice there would be your son.
BTW is it me or does Michael C Cooper sound like Alex Jones? One con artist sounding like another con artist.
Ben A, Schuck? sounds like a porn actors name .
22:50 thats some soveirgn citizen crap right there
20:18 is that a young Dangle from Reno 911
Sooo...Sovereign citizens
So the first tape was an MLM thing, because well...using Jackson Hewitt, or H&R Block is inconvenient. As for the 2nd...don't try any of this, especially in Virginia where they've made it clear that's going to be a very expensive felony.
the first one is from 1999? wow it looks dated for even then
And the speeding video looked like it was from the 90s even though it was from 1986.
+Oddity Archive; The annoying persom in court (23:27) sounds middle Eastern, not Asian.
To me he sounded slightly Italian, but whatever, the race or nationality of that individual is completely irrelevant.
Maybe you were joking by the repeated correction of "criteria" to "criterias," but "criteria" is the plural of "criterion," as in the collection. If a joke, I guess you got me.
See VHS Vault #20.
@@OddityArchive Alas, I'm undone by the in-joke!
My bad. It was VHS Vault Vol 19.
$24.95 for a useless video? Seems to me that in both these tapes you were the one outwitted BY the man!
I believe it was $24.95 back in 1986. I didn’t pay near that.
@@OddityArchive That's what I meant to say, in 1986 that was quite a way to get outwitted by the man ($25 is around $70 in today's money)
Once I got caught traveling 46 in a 45 zone. Officer dragged me out of the car, beat me within an inch of my life and called in for backup so that six other officers got their chance to hit me about the head, neck and ribs with metal pipes and the butts of their service revolvers. I was arrested for reckless driving and spend almost a year in jail after the judge asked me why I was arrested but my jaw had been wired shut from my injuries and he took that as an offense so I got the maximum penalty for my speeding 1 miles an hour over the limit. The road I was driving on was a desolate highway in the desert.
