Two Slightly Sketchy Scrambles | Del Campo and Gothic Peaks

- Gothic Basin did not disappoint! Not only is the crystal clear blue waters of Foggy Lake to camp alongside, but there are also two great scrambles high above the lake. On the first day, we made our way up Del Campo, and for sunrise I rolled out of the tent and stumbled up Gothic Peak.
This is a very popular destination, with probably 30+ tents scattered within the basin. Please know your limit when hiking up the peaks, there is always a chance for falling rocks or loose footing! Here's a link to my AllTrails route. Please note that I did not go up the traditional way to Gothic Peak. www.alltrails.com/explore/rec...

Doesn’t look to bad from the video but videos don’t always do it justice. As a couple who has done the enchantments thru hike & hidden lake lookout last year, do you think this hike is pretty achievable or comparable? Also would you suggest this or vesper peak if you had to choose one? Thanks. Love the video!
Hi Zachary, it is very comparable to Vesper, with just a bit more scrambling. It is steep near the summit of Del Campo, steeper than Enchantments and Hidden Lake Lookout. I’m sure you can do it but be careful, of course.
Is a helmet essential or a nice-to-have? I want to hike Del Campo this summer, but I don't own a helmet.
Not essential, just don’t have anyone going up right in front of you to be safe.
Did you need a permit for this hike?
No, no permit required.
@@chasethealberts thank you!
I think you need a Northwest Forest Pass to park at the trailhead (according to WTA app)
