Better late than never to watch your videos. Gothic Basin in the mid 1970's was a place of solitude. Now in my mid 70's your videos enhance my still photo memories.

First thing I have to say is that we are the ones who have to thank you for inspiring us, Nick and Jen. Since I subscribed this channel my fascination and knowledge about this mountains is growing and growing. If your friends dont like your boring hike conversations, we're all ears and eyes to your beautiful stories. Congratulations for making the summit this time. Thank you for the tips and your final considerations.
I've heard stories about a rare Pokemon hiding deep in that mine hahaha. Ok, sorry for that.

Hahaha thankfully I have given up finding pokemon. The mountains are enough of a reason to make me get outdoors. :)

Yes! As others have stated below, you definitely continue to inspire through these videos. I love knowing what I am getting into before I hike a new place and you thorough documentation provide me with a lot of great info. Also, now having watch a TON of your videos, your banter and personalities have absolutely grown on me and I end up watching every minute of the video. It also helps me to know what I should include in my hiking documentaries, as it's something I have just started. Much love and thank you for sharing your adventures with us!!!!

These people are insane !!! I've never seen any of their videos until tonight and I think I'm going to have nightmares! I'm gonna stop at this one. Seriously, my hands perspired watching this video but strangely enough I couldn't quit looking; kind of like passing an accident on the highway. All I can say is WOW! Y'all are reincarnated mountain goats! You have no idea how much jealousy (& top shelf admiration !!) I harbor for all you people who are not deathly afraid of heights!! I so wish I was part of your elite club! Forester Pass & Grey's Peak forget about it ! I might could do it but I'd be so sick it wouldn't be fun for me. King size kudos to you for sure!

I've watched you two for awhile now and really enjoy watching you two. I am one of those that have become disabled and can no longer do long hard hikes, or overnighters anymore. I still try to do little hikes and mountain biking when my body allows me to, but can no longer do the trails that you two do,,,,, The Fun Ones! I thankfully passed on my love of the outdoors to my oldest nephew and we call the woods our, Happy Place. When we need a break from life, we go there to clear our minds, and reset ourselves.

The two gentlemen we talked to, the ones who were looking for the mines have switched from summiting mountains to exploring mines. One told me he is getting close to kayaking instead of backpacking. That way he no longer has to carry all the weight. I think someday when my body gives out on me, I might be going the kayak route as well. Thank you for your comment and happy to hear you enjoy the videos and get out when you can. :)

Funny you should bring that up, because I looked into getting into kayaking a few years ago. I live between two lakes that i can get to, and practice kayaking. Sadly though after looking into the costs of getting into it, it was cost prohibitive for me right now. My 2 nephews would say "where's ours uncle" especially the older one... God help me if i get a 4x4 quad...lol.

You guys are my favorite UA-camr's ever! I have watched almost all of your videos! This one may be my favorite yet, you guys always have so much fun and are true to yourselves, always noticed that. Your closing convo proved to me you guys are in this for the right reasons, which is a major reason I love follow your adventures! You guys aren't in this for likes, subscribers, etc... you're doing this because you love it and you appreciate nature. And if someone likes your video, then great! The true joy is getting someone else to fall in love with it. I have never been to WA but cannot wait to visit one day! Avid Arkansas hiker here, maybe one day I'll catch you two on a trail up there! Thank you for everything you do and for promoting good LNT etiquette!

Kudos to you guys! You must be crazy to make it to the summit. I chickened out just before the summit approach. My altimeter said 6000ft when I turned around. I knew I wasn't going to make it when I got to the top of the ridge near that twisted dead tree and saw the massive drop on the other side. Vertigo hits like a truck sometimes.

Thanks for taking us along. It has been nearly 40 years since I last was there. Both times I've been there the weather obscured the view so your video was a real treat. Gothic Basin was also the first hike my wife (then girlfriend) and I did together. Now that we know the scenery is for real, I may have to go back.

First off, What the heck? You're wearing the wrong hat! Love all your videos. I met an 85-year old woman at church a couple weeks ago. I told her about the hiking I do and it turned out she and her husband raised their three children hiking and climbing all over Washington. The family did the Wonderland trail when the kids were early teens. Her advice to me (I'm 67): "Hike all you can, as long as you can." Words to live by. Keep it up. You are enjoying pleasures most people can't even dream of.

Nick n Jenn! Again another great vid, well worth waiting for. Have to thank you again for the great camera work, Nick. So many pan their cams too fast, or don't linger on a nice scene long enough; but you really seem to have a nice balance. And loved your little conversation at the end. I've explored a few of the old mines in the Monte Cristo area, but years ago; and never up to Gothic Basin. Again loved the footage, and thanks for sharing!! SkagitEd

Nick and Jen. Your videos give me joy seeing your excitement in the same mountains that I have been exploring the past 35 years! It is so funny, I camped 100 yards from your Gothic Basin site last year! Thanks for the gear tips. Always enjoying seeing what others use. Also helps me with my “fun job” at REI. Curious about your on trail video set up? Hope to see you out there!

Hi David, stoked to hear you enjoyed it, and were camped close to where we were. Also, since you work at REI, thank you for all the help you provide people when they come into your store. I always seem to have a good conversation about gear with an employee every time I visit. As far as my setup, it's a Garmin Virb Ultra on a selfi stick with a small cheap mic. My bigger camera is a Fujifilm XT-2 with the kit lens and I mount it on my backpack with a Peak Designs Capture Pro.

I did this as a day hike in early September of 2017, though just to the basin as I wasn’t quite strong enough to make it to the tippy top. Even the hike to the basin is a butt kicker but well worth the effort!
I hope to make it to the top the next time I tackle this trail. I’d love to check out that super cool mine!
I thoroughly enjoy your videos! You’ve given me some fantastic hike suggestions and it’s really neat to see you filming hikes I’ve done.

I'm a moderate level hiker, so this would be one of the first hard hikes that I do. I plan on carrying poles with me, that is pretty much the equipment I would carry for the hike. Great video like most of your other videos. I came across your channel last week while I was looking up for Mount Dickerman. The best part of this video was the last 12 minute while you are just chatting at the campsite. It felt very relaxing and homely and the fast moving clouds in the background adds to it. I was there in 2016, went up to foggy lake but then returned since it was getting late and I was tired as well. WTA description should mention that the hike till basin with the stats is just the beginning of the hike :P as there is so much to explore. When you were at the top after scrambling did you see mount dickerman from there? Nick doing the popeye thing in the end was real funny while he should people around his campsite :D. Also at time 3:24 did someone jump off from the rock on right top behind your camp. was there a lake there?

Great scenery, and I really enjoyed the entertaining end section :-) I've tracking back through your videos recently, and you really are building up an impressive catalogue of hiking videos. Have you ever thought of indicating all the hike locations as pins on a map or something so that viewers can see the various locations? I came across the Shi Shi beach video again recently - have you thought of exploring some more coastal routes during the winter?

Sadly there is no map view of just my hikes. I'll talk to them about it. As far as the coast, Jen and I are thinking about it, would just need to be when there isn't a big storm as the North Pacific gets nasty.
