Totally agree with a lot of the discussion. Apprenticeships very important. Manufacturing and Industry is the backbone of any economy, why are we surprised when over the last 40 years we have lost so much industry. Look at a picture of 1960 and spot the car not made in the UK. Manufacturing = jobs. Ask yourself where are your everyday items made - washing machines, vacuum cleaners, furniture, cars, trains. No wonder the UK is in a recession coupled with a Tory government! Wales can be independent and can be better - no nuclear submarines, small but efficient armed force; paying for the monarchy - how can we justify this grotesque spending of tax payers money when people are in poverty. We have means of developing electricity, we have a skilled workforce which we need to invest more in. We have a population of which many are bi-lingual. Let us create our own industries again. Yes it is cheaper to buy from countries like China because we cannot compete; but what is the real cost of unemployed people, poverty, depression etc. Why do we have to get a cheap items from China. Take a kettle - why can't we manufacture kettles? Does anybody in the UK manufacture kettles??? Recycle plastic - manufacture kettles in Wales and get a nice cup of Glengettie every morning. Welsh goods for Welsh people made by a Welsh workforce at a bare minimum. NHS hospitals - I live in Llanandras (Presteigne for those who have problems with Welsh place names) and our nearest large hospital is Hereford. Why does mid-Wales not have a state-of-the-art hospital where nurses are paid a good wage for doing a thankless job? It does not have to be this way, I pray people will want change Wales rather than being so accepting of the status quo and thinking this is normal. Independence is normal. Annibyniaeth!!!

Thanks for this very useful discussion for the future of Wales.
It is based on real realism for it is our responsibility as citizens of Wales yo control our own destiny.
David and Sion you are quite right. The Labour Party is a UK party; It has never had a positive policy for the Welsh people as it has always looked to its centralised leadership in the UK Westminster: for that it is similar to the UK Conservatives, in which, they have always directed policy towards the monopolisation of capitalism.
Wales would need to mobilise its population to own shares in the economy. To that we would need not only our Welsh central bank but also our own functioning stock exchange to ensure that our people have access to purchase shares in our own industries.
A move towards this system of Egalitarian Capitalism would put wealth, power and financial security into the hands of our Welsh population.

You cannot, cannot use Wales' current GDP, population and or GDP per capita and compare it to other countries. If Wales became independent all of those would fall and fall relatively significantly due to a myriad of reasons including uncertainty, rising taxes, short, medium and long term infrastructure, a separation from the largest trading partner, revocation of agreements and access to English facilities etc.
Yes, yes water, water, water. Welsh independence would be the biggest kick up the backside the Englisg government could get to fix their water infrastructure problems once and for all.

Wales' demographics are and will continue to be more and more different to Estonia, which is virtually a white ethnostate comprised of two large groups who easily co-exist. This means Estonia avoids an awkward challenge Wales would continue to wrangle with socially and culturally. It's interesting because even raising that point would be condemned by Welsh Nationalists. Oxymoronic.
But when you think about that, what culturally and politically distinguishes the Welsh from the English anymore? What do Welsh people feel they would do so differently to increasing immigration, expanding LGBTQ+ rights and a warped, religious conviction to sacrifice prosperity to the God of global climate cooling warming change.

"Brexit made the UK more unattractive for people to come to the UK." Ahem *checks stats* since Brexit net migration has never been as high and it peaked at over 1.1 million (documented) immigrants last year.
Also, why do we need Indian and Chinese people, particularly? Why not white South Africans, Australians, New Zealanders, Canadians and Americans? People who are of European heritage and many who are British and some will be Welsh who will fit in brilliantly. Strange you left those out but were quick to ask for Indians and Chinese..
