To this day this is still one of my favorite games; it has a really satisfying combat system that even after playing it for 100s of hours didn't get old for me.

SO3 was to me, the pinnacle of Tri-Ace before they went off the rails.
Still one of my favorite games and one of the wildest plot twists ever.

Ahhh still my favorite Star Ocean game. Maybe they will do a remake someday. :)

Mine too man. Considering how well 2's remake was received there's a decent chance.

Doing so many videos from so many different people is like a little surprise each time. A blessing and a curse.

    Sakuraba never miss
If you're interested in the series, I know you were looking for games to play on your Switch, you should definitely check out Star Ocean 2's remake. Square Enix recently released a Remake of the game in a similar (kinda) style to Octopath Traveler
The game looks great and SO2 is often considered to be the best in the series
The first game is also available on Switch but it's much older looking
    These games are fantastic!

I forgot to mention but the original game's dev team had folks who worked on the Tales of series if I remember correctly
The two series have some elements in common

@@lanonyme-vod8090 Yeah, the team that made Tales of Phantasia (the first tales game) had a disagreement with Namco about where that series should go afterwards, and they left to form Tri-Ace who created Star Ocean, and they remain sort of odd cousins as franchises.

Peppita's the name of one the main characters in the game... So you know the requester is quite fan.
For the longest time this was the only game of the series I'd played and... I respect it lot more now then I originally did

This is legit one of my fav games and underrated soundtracks in games from early development, it holds up pretty okay gameplay wise but the story really has some FUN twists

I bought this game on a whim when I was a kid and to this day it stands out to me as one of my all time favorite games. The music is so unique.

This game was the only game I had growing up that was single player in a household with a ton of children, so it will always hold a special place to me.
So fun thing, you were very right about the transitional aspect of the first song, as it's what plays in a part where you're just waiting for something. (trying to stay spoiler free)
Holy Geez, I didn't realize that Cutting Edge of Notion didn't loop for that long. Also, star ocean is a real-time action rpg, so battles are very much *not* stat-checks (except on the highest difficulty as avoid is a stat that goes up)

First star ocean i played. Really interesting twist to the existence of god and higher beings. I got the remakes of 1 and 2 on psp after that. Later played the 2nd actual one for ps1 and the translated version of 1 for snes that never came out in america. Star ocean is bomb. I also played 4 when it came out for 360 didnt have the ps3 version but never got far it was too boring. Although i love the ww3 intro.

The whole of SO3's ost is very aquatic in terms of vibes (I guess it puts the ocean in star ocean), at least outside of the rock pieces. It's something relatively unique to the third opus.

You need to listen to Malicious Fingers, is a boss battle song

I *THINK* This song plays in the Tower post-game dungeon. When you're fighting a Valkyrie from Valkyrie Profile. Lenneth, I believe was her name.. She was hard as HELL.

YESSS I was so excited when I saw Star Ocean on my feed !!
Yeah Star Ocean TTEOT is the third game, I just never know if I should write it all in the title when requesting tbh.. 😂
There might be "Lakes and Marshes" in the title but Motoi really chose to play for the "Doubt" part in the game, since one of the game's theme is war, this ambient track is mostly used during "uncertain/doubtful" moments.
I'm really sorry for the quality of the second track, i'll be more careful next time. 😓
Cutting Edge is the main battle theme of the game. It's my favorite battle theme, I never get bored of hearing even though the endgame is *quite* grindy.
The action is very packed in battles, funny you say between generic and battle boss, because even simple enemies in this game can be rough, no matter the difficulty (there are 4 difficulties).
The story also has multiples difficulty spikes which can put off new JRPG players, until you either avoid the enemy completly (too strong for now) or grind/grasp which strategy to use against them.
    Again, sorry for the quality!!😣

I know you generally like to avoid live videos, but if you want to see Sakuraba in his element, give this one a shot (also from Star Ocean 3): ua-cam.com/video/rYxrbvaCyvM/v-deo.html
If you can spot him hidden away in his fortress of synths and keyboards, that is. ;)

That first song is all about reflection and thinking fittiong fir the few times thwy used it in the story, i wished they used more aquatic themes on tge gane since most if it was somewhat desserted( ps2 cant handle too many npc)

this isn't so much a battle theme as it is a zone or dungeon theme, can't remember exactly where but I do remember a number of zones and dungeons have really high energy tracks that feel like you're in a constant state of conflict which is usually the case when you're traveling between towns.
