Letting them to work out the desired action with command is the only way to go😊 so they understand and remember. My son got frustrated with his GSD/MAL MIX and I corrected HIM. He saud how many times do I have to tell him ?! I daud Idk, how many times did I have to tell you to clean your room, brush your teeth, keep your hands to yourself!!! You tell them every time you want the correct behavior

I accidentally bought a Cane Corso :^). I saw these cute puppies for sale and the owners said they would be large dogs. I bought him online and when I went to pick him up the owner told me he was 1/2 Neopolitan mastiff and 1/2 Cane Corso. He looks like a Cane Corso and is now 17 weeks old and weighs 50 pounds. I did not teach him to stay by my side - he did that on his own because he is so protective of me. I weigh 83 pounds and am very small so he thinks I need protection. He is instantly obedient if he senses I am angry. Teething was quite the problem. He ate my rocker, my couch cushions, all the paper he can find, and anything else he could. We are working on the chewing problem. Your videos have been so helpful and I especially liked the video on neutering. I have been instinctively using your correction methods and want to thank you for this video to allow me to understand that I am doing it right.

Good tips! The way I taught my Jack Russel what NO meant was by putting a treat between us and if she wanted to eat it I would growl and say "NO" and put by face a little closer to the treat. It worked really well and very quickly. She immediately knew what that NO meant.

Positive reinforcement we have rescues we don’t use the word no with one of my Corso’s because he gets so upset and he will not come around us for like a whole day it causes him so much anxiety and depression so we have learned to use positive reinforcement and choose ou words carefully like stop, sit, come, place( to lay on towel or bed) the boys responded so well to positive reinforcement after the home they were in. They just wanted to be loved Our boys are so thankful to have what they have you can just see it in their body language also how thankful they are. They act so respectful to us. I can leave a plate full of food and they will not touch it. Neither of them. They get corrected but I never swing at or yell. Do not say mean things at them. We are just very calm. People with chaos will only bring chaos onto them

Love your training methods. I have used dominant training, alpha training...so many names but all the same. The growl, the nose bits, and no..I have 2 female boxers that are very well trained, never have I ever had to use aggressive training. They learn quick and understand mom is boss.

@@marjoriejoffre8580 , that would be your opinion. My dogs are very well loved and takin care of and have never , ever used punishment that has anything to do with hitting, a shock collar, nor do we have a fenced yard because they are perimeter trained. I have bred and trained dogs and come from a long line of breeders, im 50 yrs old and have never owned a dog that showed fear or aggression to anyone. So like I said your opinion. I teach them exactly how their mother does.

I have a 1 year male cane corso. I use verbal corrections " No". And replace item with acceptable chew toy or I use bitter apple in combonation with " No". I do NOT spray my dog! I spray the item he should leave alone. I use a choke chain to walk. It never gets tight! If he walks ahead, I very quickly "pop " the chain and at the same time say "heal". Corrections need to be to be consistant. Eventually, verbal commands work great!

Overall, great informative video and absolutely beautiful Corso. I would like to add that the way you used negative reinforcement wasn't correct when you mentioned, "negative reinforcement would be like using a collar pop." This would actually be considered positive reinforcement because you're adding something to get the attention/create a reaction from the dog. Whereas negative reinforcement is anything that is taken away to create attention to something/get a desired reaction. For example: Dog is sitting/lying patiently for food while you prepare it. Noticing this behavior you give praise and set the bowl down in front of it after you've finished preparing the food.(positive reinforcement). After giving your dog the food, a chunk of meat gets pushed out of the bowl and you decide to try and grab it to put it back. While doing so your dog growls. As you're dog is growling you pull the bowl of food away and set it on the counter. You took the food out of the situation and thus provided negative reinforcement. Keep up the great videos and long live Bruce!

Hi Jason, what better way to start the New Year off than watching an educational video from one of my favourite-ever youtube-people? Those being yourself, Will from Fenrir Dog Training, and Tom Davis. Pausing the video to answer your question as to which corrections I used: On the German Shepherd, nothing more than a flat leather collar was needed (only recently, a slip lead, to avoid falling on my face - precaution whilst walking her with the younger dog). For the Estrela: TRIED HARD to never go above the slip lead, but since she got deeper into puberty, she gets so riled up sometimes at cats on walks that I had to order the same prong as you have, I guess: Herm and Sprenger's giant breed version. THAT was the best Christmas present to myself EVER! Absolutely phenomenal. And not just because it stops any lunging attempt, but also because it CALMS HER DOWN. As though she understands "Oh, okay, Mom's got that, I don't need to worry". Whereas with the slip lead, she had rather half choked herself out than stopped lunging and barking, for example in cases of another lose-running, big dog hanging around close to our daily walking-route. In addition, I have an e-collar coming, as we are still stuck in this sorry rental house without fence, and although in 99% of the cases, both dogs do fine, this 1% of darting off after something - as you said before, Jason, THAT is enough to count as "NOT perfect recall", which puts the dogs in danger. Tried a shock-free version first (spray-, vibrate- and sound), but that tool was utterly useless for the hard-headed Estrela.

Very good video, you find me in agreement with all the principles outlined. One note on the terminology, a correction is not a negative reinforcement. Negative reinforcement occurs when something unpleasant or uncomfortable is removed or taken away in order to increase the likelihood of the desired behavior. Keep going with the great content of your channel.

No this is not great information. You can totally éducate your cane corso without prong collars or even worse e collars.
Thats lazy training and dont even work with all dogs. It can make your dog fearful and thats the worst.for this breed.
My cane corso Never had any issue without those. They are smart and love to learn but they need structure

I’ve always used a mortongale collar but I can see how a pinch or ecollar would be very effective especially in certain situations such as near traffic or boundary recall. I also use the word YES as a marker word for reinforcing the correct behavior. Earlier on when working with a young pup YES let’s them know a treat will follow as well as affirmation such as “Good Boy Ragnar”. As they age we phase out the treat based training and just use the marker word YES plus the affirmation always with name. I find affirming training even correcting is very positive and the dogs want to please. They look to us for direction. All this said I’ve still never got a dog to the level that Bruce Wayne is. Our next Cane Corso we hope to expand our methods to include some of yours and Will’s to do an even better job. Can’t wait to purchase the books to get us there!
    YES! Good Boy Bruce Wayne😉

With previous dogs we have used many different correction formats: trainers, verbal & physical corrections, positive rewards/reinforcement, and prong collar. We only got an e-collar later on in dogs life for boundary safety as we live in a more rural setting and didn't want dogs going near road. I hadn't ever thought of using it for regulary puppy training, but now that you mentioned it - it does make a lot of sense. I would highly consider it with our next dog we get.
Love your training approach, style of videos, informative approach and of course Bruce Wayne!!!

There’s a difference between a correction and a reminder. Corrections should only need to be done one or two times and they’ll never do that behavior ever again. If they continue to do it then you’re just reminding them. Hope that makes sense

It's so true!!! You made sense of it, at least for me :) People get so amazed when they see me with my German shepherd. They are like "wooow you didn't needed to correct her."

remember that dogs correct each others in the wild, they growl as a sign of warning and they may snap a bite if they didnt correct. so it's so natural if you correct your dog in the neck area (thats where the dogs snap naturally in the wild to correct each others). thats why the prone collar is so useful. it brings vibes to the dogs neck area that is so sensitive to force.

We used a verbal correction for most things.. it's kind of like a loud chirp lol as well as other "negative" consequences (i.e. our dog is herding breed and she would nip at our heels when we would walk when she was a puppy. So as a "negative consequence" we would just stop moving and ignore her.)

Should people do the puppy training course before they get their puppy and study it ? Or get while you are training the puppy? I’m definitely going too do it before my next pup!

I have used them for years. When people try to say anything negative about them (and they often do) I let them know that I, a human, with a much weaker, more vulnerable neck than any dog, have put it on my own neck and yanked for all I was worth. I wouldn’t say it was fun but it didn’t hurt and it actually transferred the pressure equally around my neck so as to not cause pain. Each and every time I have given this example someone gets the comment taken down. Which means they can’t stand anyone knowing the facts... they only want people to know what they decide they want them to know... because “they” don’t like them.

I say "hey!" and I pop the leash on a harness but if I am using a collar I will try to use a get and sit method. I dont like to leash pop when I using a collar. At home I use the get and sit method. Involves me chasing my dog and if I can get her within a minute I make her sit holding her scruff or collar.

What do you do when someone tries to get in your front door. Bad spot for a tree !!! Love your channel, also have a cane Corso and he’s awesome. 7 months old and 110 lbs. We have had 3 boxers at different times and they were very smart loving dogs but no way as much as our Blue. He’s laid back and very loving.

Is the growl correction only safe if used upon puppies? Curious about using it with 10 month-14month old dogs too? Is that not effective/safe at that time do you think? I assume if they've rehearsed a behaviour like resource guarding for months already, growling back may not be ideal, but curious of your thoughts, Jason! And anyone else who may have input.

My cane corso is 1 year and 4 months. It was giving at me 6 months. I didn’t give to much time into his training would it still be hard ?
