    Awesome idea! We will definitely be trying this out . Fajitas are always tasty and I like your idea on replacing the bell peppers with the poblano chilis. Thumbs up with bacon grease and mushrooms too. Thanks for taking the time to share the recipe!

    Awesome video. Looks really good. I've almost got enough eggs to make a pretty good size batch of Cajun pickled quail eggs. Ready to start hatching some out for meat consumption. Really love your videos man. Keep up the good work.

    Wings would be good to save for stock, if you make it yourself. Laura

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked  6 років тому +1

      I think you mean the legs. There isn't much at all on the wings. But that is a good idea.

    • @LauraMichelGreenRaven
      @LauraMichelGreenRaven 6 років тому +1

      Slightly Rednecked. You are correct. I thought you said wings to cook later but it was legs. When I finally have enough to use for meat, I may put everything except breast in stock. Guess I will save parts from numerous birds until there is enough for a decent amount. Thanks again

    Man.. That realy seems like alot of work.. Especialy raising them up to all of, what 2 oz of meat per bird? Its def not for everyone i suppose it looks good. But def an aquired cuppa tea

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked  6 років тому +2

      I guess it is a lot of work for some. I don't find it to be that difficult to do myself and I like knowing where my food comes from. But like you said, not for everyone, to each his own.

    • @exotickeeper4181
      @exotickeeper4181 6 років тому +1

      Slightly Rednecked i can understand that you like knowing where your food comes from, thats sorta why we started on rabbits and look to branch into other things. Im am in a KC suberb and currently have some of the same restrictions on animals..
      Iv thought about quail many times for my reptiles to have a varriety. but idk ig i expected them to just give off more meat for a fairly common "homestead bird"?? if it was for just one person. I suppose it wouldnt be so bad as they do require nearly no work once outside. And ofcourse you can upscale and downscale according to your specific requirements... But that many birds for 2 adults to have quail fajitas actualy puts it into perspective for me. I appreciate that. I maynhave ended up accidently getting into something that wasnt for me had i not seen this o.O

      We actually got 4 meals out of this (and could have easily made it 6 but we were gluttons the first night). But to your point, they aren't super big birds and I generally eat two of them when we have them for dinner.

      I also keep rabbits, and chickens. To address your concerns about the volume of meat etc., you need to consider a couple of things. 1. Quail mature super quick. 2. The butchering process takes no time at all. To process the quail to make this dish, which would feed a whole family, would take less time than to process one chicken, even if you had an automatic chicken plucker. With quail there's no scalding and plucking and all that business. And they would take less than half the time to mature from egg to harvest. So from that perspective quail are a pretty viable alternative protein.

      Well i was basing it off what iv learned from this chanel (not saying your right or wrong chris as this is the only info iv even looked at on quail.) But they seem take about as long as a cornish cross to butcher weight was my measuring. (~51days for 6+lb tho granted much more food)
      Hmm..Interesting i did not known they didnt need scalded. I guess that would narrow down time. I also figured they was hand pluck as id imagine a okucker would just destroy the bird...Being as iv never processes a bird of any sort, a quail taking less time to desembowel makes sense. However with a little practice even a deer is quick and simple so i suppose it would boil down to your own personal skill (if were sticking with the auto plucker assumptio ) at the vìceration table weather you prefer to do a 7lb chicken or 45 quail for roughly the same amount of meat?.... Tho it almost seems like itd be just as good to cut off the breasts at the viceration table and vacuum seal them into a bag 1/4-1/2lb to save a little time later?
      Ill admit being a stocky 6'2 400lb guy when he said it took 8 quail to make 1lb for that meal.i got a lil nervous...i did sit around to see how much meat it made.. But i still scaddadled quick-like as im a boy who likes his meat and from what i seen it looked like dinner for 2 and maybe some leftovers to take to work,which could verry well be the screens fault for lack of proper depth... But i can see the merrit from both sides as i understand they equate feed to weight similar to what a rabbit does but i suppose i failed to take into consideration. These "little chicken nuggets" can add up if they are as simple as you guys say.. So thanks to both of you.. Maybe this could still be something to add to either my 'little zoo' or my own food stock *shrugs*
      Again id like to thank you both. You have shined a little light on this for me..maybe i could give it a small shot one day, at least look into wiel we grow out our other animals.. Worst case scenerio i have a few meals and or my snakes get a unique meal! Right?lol
      Cheers🍻

    I found a great seller to get eggs from on ebay there is this seller (quailkingdom) she is 3.5 hours away from me and she ships eggs for free and she quarantees fertility so if some eggs aren't fertile or the come cracked she will send you more and it 15 eggs for 15.99 I like knowing that I will get fertile eggs guaranteed she has brown cortunix, Texas A&M,tuxedos, and rossettes which variety is the largest she said that the browns were jumbo not sure about the rest

    • @Slightlyrednecked
      @Slightlyrednecked  5 років тому +1

      The jumbo or the A&M will be close to the same size. I would go with the brown jumbo if it were me.
