My husband has a list of songs to be played at his funeral. He simply calls it "The List". Songs like "When I get to where I'm going" and "Simple Man" and others. Well Mr Jinks, you've done something very few have done. My husband just walked into the room and simply said, "Add that to the list" with tears in his eyes. Then he turned and walked away. I'm not sure what it is that you have, but he sure does, and with this song, you have made the list. Thank you for touching my husbands heart so deeply.
i travel building powerlines, chasing storms to help people get power back on and i have lost a wife, my home, dont have much but my son that i get a picture of now and then.. this song is amazing and says whats in my head every damn day. is the blood worth the pain..
I travel pipe welding and I understand what you are going through I've lost my better half my kids and picked up a drinking problem......is it worth it
Yes its worth it.. it life an yours... Even though it doesn't play out as our ideal life would of, Its still all worth it.. if your living an not dieing.. because of,,,could of should of an if onlys...let go see what you got an make the best of it..Time heals all wounds..Don't live in regret an lose yourself...
Without the blood do we even have the pain? From your little write up you sound like a guy that bleeds every day, but the pain is how you know you a good person. Some people can just say "Meh" and shrug off everything you just explained... never lose a drop of blood or even register pain, me being one of those people. I can't feel emotion anymore. So to read what you wrote touched me... I do think you are a strong person. I remember emotion... I almost feel it when I read stuff like that. My heart goes out to you, not in the sense of feeling sorry but I guess you are a person like Cody portrays in this song... a man with a Life, A man with Struggle... A story. I miss being a person that feels. I'm a shell and borderline monster... I lost my kids to hateful women. I played my part I won't deny that, but I am a good father... I never would hurt ot do wrong by my boys. But between the corrupt "Mother Supporting" court system and two greedy bitches that see those boys as a Paycheck ... $20k in court and lawyer fees in the last few years and still deal with refusal of Visitation... Hard to take my word for it I know but my battle has torn me into so many numb pieces that I don't even feel human anymore... so... I envy your ability to stay functional and emotional. I miss it. I had a catastrophic emotional shut down. Keep your head up, you sound like a strong man.
As a tool and die maker from Pennsylvania, every machine is grey, everyday the skies are grey, and dealing with ulner and radial tunnel syndrome, this song shook me to the core.
I lost a love, and his music helped to pull me back from the brink. Not a wife or lover, but the irreplaceable love of a child, and without his music, the spiral was inevitable. This is the music that can touch you, and see you through.
When the canvas is no longer blank And the colors have all turned grey When the desert that you're in gets too cold for you to stay When it's hard to tell the night from the day When your hands have lost the love for the trade And the reasons for work just ain't the same When you put down the money is the blood worth all the pain When you can't see the sunshine for the rain Livin' ain't a promise Livin' ain't a right And no one here is getting out alive So pick up all your pieces Cast the doubt away Rediscover the color in the grey Rediscover all the color in the grey Livin' ain't a promise Livin' ain't a right No one here is gettin' out alive So pick up all your pieces Cast the doubt away Rediscover the color in the grey Rediscover all the color in the grey
I fuckin love this song. Been living with terminal cancer for a few years and it looks like time is about up, but I'm going till I can't. Keep up the good work!
I hope that you are still in the battle for life. My story is similar, I was diagnosed and had surgery and the removal of one of my kidneys. Then 9 years and 363 days later I get a call from the doctor who tells that not only is my cancer back but it's stage 4. Since that day I've endured 2 heart surgeries one of which was what was called a debranching of the heart, look that one up and you'll get an idea of the road I'm on. However I did have to make changes in my life, one of those was I got closer to my lord and savior and that is the reason that I am able to write this message to you today. I have now been fighting against my cancer ( metastatic renal cell carcinoma) for 6 years and this was after I was told that I would be dead in 2 years. Since that dreadful day I have seen the birth of my 6th grandchild, seen another granddaughter graduate high school, seen 1 daughter receive her master's degree and my youngest daughter receive her bachelor's degree. My loving wife and I will celebrate our 40th anniversary this October. And I have the privilege of marrying one of my good old buddies this September. So my message is to turn your medical problems over to the lord, but take a active participation in your treatments read everything about the plans the medicine that will be used. I will put in my prayers and I hope that you don't give up.
I cry Everytime I hear this song because this is life not everything is joy and happiness like people put it it's hard times and learning how to make it work thanks Mr. Jinks for this song
Man these lyrics and just the overall feel of this song. "So pick up all your pieces and cast the doubt aside." That hits hard. This song is a fucking anthem. Thank you Mr. Jinks, thank you.
Absolutely REAL country music. Why can't the "music city" see the difference between their image-group outlaws and real musicians. It isn't hard, just listen.
Forrest Sweasy Nashville doesn’t care about genuinely good music. They care about money. Which means changing country into pop to attract a larger audience.
Forrest Sweasy They can't make Cody, he's making himself. Like Waylon and Johnny before him, he'll be a legend on his own terms!!! Keep on singing Cody. They 'll have to listen in the end, like it or not!@!
I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and Fibromyalgia 4 years ago. I listen to this song constantly, and especially when I go in for medication infusions. I want this played at my funeral. ❤️❤️
The message of this song is why I come back. More tunes nowadays need a message. Brainless zombie music in the mainstream. Just imagine for a second what out world would look like if people put tunes like this in their heads instead of "my anaconda don't..."
Had a person tell me Cody was a Trace Akins want to be. He called me an asshole. I've been listening to country for 50 years. Cody is the real deal ! His boy a
R. Diamond Exactly what I want to know. Sounds nothing like him. The person that commented that was praising sturgill simpson. He didn't like that I said " Simpson isn't in the same league as Cody. Not even close ! ".
Yep Cody jinks and whitey Morgan and the 78s and whiskey Myers and Hank the 3rd and Chris kinght and Chris Stapleton and jemey Johnson is the real deal of outlaw country music nothing like that crap that they play on the radio stations
I always make fun of people who youtube comment like anyone gives a f*** but when it comes to Cody Jinks I swear to God every single lyric he sings feels like it was written by myself while I was drunk and I don't remember writing it his songs just feel really personal

Bo Pennington nailed it bro.
Real country music.
When the canvas is no longer blank
And the colors have all turned grey
When the desert that you're in gets too cold for you to stay
When it's hard to tell the night from the day
When your hands have lost the love for the trade

Livin' ain't a promise
Livin' ain't a right
And no one here is getting out alive
So pick up all your pieces
Cast the doubt away
Rediscover the color in the grey
Rediscover all the color in the grey
Livin' ain't a promise
Livin' ain't a right
No one here is gettin' out alive
So pick up all your pieces
Cast the doubt away
Rediscover the color in the grey
Rediscover all the color in the grey
Thank you for takin' the time to post the beautiful lyrics!

When you put down the money, is the blood worth all the pain? When you can't see the sun shine through the rain
Hopefully no matter what when you wake up and get out of bed where the sun is shining or not you can still believe in the sunshine

You sure as hell got that right.
100% agree, he's my only living country hero. As far as I'm concerned, he's up there with Hank Sr, Merle and Waylon.
Texas country tells the truth of lifes every day struggles and pain
Love his passion, his raw voice, and message. The men of today could learn a thing or 2 from him.
Not all men from today... some of us still exist
