I have this computer and I really enjoy it, I'm actually watching you on it right now. Like you said it's good for homework, UA-cam and browsing the web, and that's all I need to do. I'm 13 so I don't need a very expensive laptop. I recommend it for someone who wants to buy their first laptop. :)
@Ramen Lover There's no way The chromebook can run Minecraft well. there is no official version of minecraft for chromebooks, the only way to play Minecraft on it you'd have to run the Linux version of Minecraft Java edition, which was made for maximum performance on a traditional laptop/PC with Linux, not a Chromebook with the exotic ChromeOS.

Yeah good luck installing Windows upgrades on that. my niece has one & it's gone into a constant downloading installing and uninstalling because it doesn't have enough storage space. So my advice to anyone looking for this laptop steer clear away from it move to something with more storage.

I got this for school and it does the job. I didn’t wanna carry my macbook pro around. It’s light and works well for school. Good to know that an SD card is an option for more storage. it’s not very good for storage but college it works.

I have a 32 GB 13" HP stream that I bought in 2015 so I could do schoolwork with Excel. It ran great for about 6 months until it became too bogged down with Windows updates, and eventually became a paperweight. I just resurrected it by wiping the OS and installing Chrome. Mine has 2.16 GHz processor and runs terrific now! No more schoolwork so I really don't need Office. It's a great lightweight laptop, just don't expect it to run Windows cleanly for too long...
I have one stream14" 3 years old. It has AMD A6400t CPU. It is amazing. Battery lasts for days. Zero noise. Zero heat. Only issue is the 32Gb storage. Windows was having issues, covered 20 by default & needed 15 more for updates, so run into issues. Solved by Linux Mint covering just 4gb.
Hello. I just purchased an acer 15.6 and every time i try to mirror to my tv using a usb to hdmi adapter, i see the laptop menu as well as netflix and any movie app's menus, but as soon as i hit play on a movie, i get a black screan on the tv. I could only hear the movie and even see the movie captions on the tv but no visual of the movie. Do you know what the problem might be?
Belem Martinez I had the same problem, I never figured it out either. Maybe try going on chrome and going on the Netflix website instead of watching directly on the Netflix app or any other movie app.
Do you think this work at a reasonable speed while having opened UA-cam, Microsoft Word and perhaps a few other tabs for doing the research for assignments. Also do you think that Netbeans and packet tracer would work fine on this? Thanks in advance

Just had the exact same problem. Solved it by holding down the power button and forcing a cold reset. When u turn on again, you get a message saying you need to repair ur computer, and and auto-repair option. Hope it works for u ! ps : 'Plugged in but not charging' doesn't mean your charger is broken, so don't buy a new charger. (I thought THAT might the case with mine, but it wasn't.)

If you’re just going to be doing surveys and browsing the web. Google chrome book laptops are a good choice. Only thing with the google Chromebooks are that You can’t run other application like iTunes and photoshop. Otherwise they are fast and don’t slow down like windows laptop.

I've done a bit of my own testing of a brand-new Stream and how well it can run popular computer programs. It runs Roblox surprisingly well as long as you're on lowest graphics settings. It can run blender but the lag makes it virtually unusable. itcan run Minecraft and is capable of averaging about 20 FPS on lowest graphics settings, which is just a little bit better than a Chromebook running the Linux version of Minecraft (since there is no official Minecraft version for Chromebook). Overall, I'd say the performance is surprisingly good comsidering the price point but at the end of the day, it is still a $200 budget laptop and won't run most programs very well.
yeah i tried gaming on it for many years including roblox which wasnt too bad but when you got to any fps game it was just horrible, tried vr too for the meme, froze, crashed nothing unexpected, bad laptop
@Cedric Picard Unfortunately, no. Not unless you're a wizard with a soldering iron, have the schematics, and make no mistakes. NOT worth the trouble. The HP Stream, has a soldered, eMMc drive, that can't be removed without major surgery.

I had the first 11” stream with 2GB of RAM and 32GB Drive and I liked it but windows 10 became unusable. Low RAM made it slow as hell and the drive wasn’t large enough for even the OS lol.

My space button has to click really hard to click it, and I have to click twice to turn it on, I have a usb mouse tho, but the thing that rlly annoys me is the click thing. It always goes in and I can’t click it back out. Very flimsy keyboard. But it’s ok.
It’s not meant for playing games. Although it can run certain games. I play creative destruction sometimes on it and it gets around 19 to 20 FPS lags a little

You will have to run it via USB3.0. so you're bottlenecked there. Just get a Micron, or ADATA SSD, get a USB3.0 enclosure, and run it externally. The EVO would be a waste of money on this computer.

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 100S that's identical to this, but its RAM is cut down to just 2GB. I installed AntiX Linux earlier this year and it runs so much better than Lubuntu or Mint. It rarely occupies more than 800MB of RAM and really helps turn these machines into workhorses. And if you're looking to have a little fun, with Batocera Linux, you'll comfortably emulate up to N64 and Dreamcast. These machines are excellent for those like to tinker and work within the confines of its limitations.
I've had this laptop for 4 years. After a year of usage I haven't been able to upgrade it to the newest version of windows 10, I mainly use it for research, youtube, discord, and roblox (lowest graphics or set on 5 work decent). Overall it's a good laptop, yes it's slow at times but it's something that can be dealt with. *do not* get this laptop expecting to use it as a gaming laptop. If you are in a dim room, the lowest screen brightness setting works fine to keep the battery charged for a long time. Yes, if I could get a new laptop for $200 more I'd would love to, but I am not rich so will be using this laptop until it stops working properly. Thanks for reading, hope this was helpful. : )
It’s pretty painfully slow standard. But if you disable a lot of win 10 crap, background running apps, stuff that hogs resources, and then set the performance to maximum battery settings, processor minimum and maximum to 100% etc, it’s pretty impressive/decent at 2.5Ghz constant. Worst part in the end is the 32GB memory.
I had two of these and they both would get really hot when streaming on Netflix and would crash. I would have to waft it in the air until it cooled down and then it worked again and would carry on streaming the movie.

by the specs of it (NO) your able to have 2 or 4 tab open before it start to refresh itself or start to lag. video chatting is no good i heard and i know cause its cheap but as you like it its okay then. You want is a macbook air M1 or $500 laptop.
idk what yalls issues with it are. i have the blue hp stream 14 and i have been able to play both my ps4 and xbox one s through remote play apps at the same time on the same screen. the video quality was more than decent and had very little lag. yall are being to critical for a laptop with such a low price tag. also if storage is a problem get a flash drive or an external usb drive.
ON alot of laptops the sound is bad because the manafactuers put speakers in bad places, but getting hp/dell they try to place speakers in very good places, since there products are "carefuly manafactured" so good job hp/dell!
Hi everybody i have a question about the charger of this computers. I bought 2 one for each of my daughters a purple and a blue one. One of my daughters lost her charger. My question is is the tip of the charger the same color as the computer? I didn't notices that until one of the chargers got lost. My oldest daughter has the purple computer but the charger is blue so i think is my others daughter charger. So i need to be fair with both of them.... Thank you for your help. This laptop is great, but only recently all my storage is gone from the update and no matter how much stuff I delete it still takes so much storage I barley have any, ive tried to get extra storage but none of them worked or theyre to small of storage :(
This would be perfect to use for music streaming going into a good USB DAC/AMP (and maybe with room correction/calibration software too) since it's also fanless. I try to listen to Amazon HD music from my Lenovo laptop into my DAC (because I hate using Bluetooth) and the fan noise is extremely annoying when listening to music. For the price it would be hard to beat for streaming music.
I want a laptop for mugen fighting games, one that I can connect my tv to, and to be able to use ps4 controllers to play on it. Will I be able to do that with this?
Needed a windows laptop for college work only as windows based software used, iPad and iMac for art work etc...this is just to record lectures, take notes and store offline...can’t beat iPad and Mac for big boy stuff.
It’s an ok laptop for the price especially if you’re looking for something temporary I wouldn’t store any photos, projects etc. without a backup plan like a flash drive or something just bc it’s not the best but again if you need something just for school projects and your backing everything up then I’d say it’s a good choice

Its not that bad. Add an extra $21 for a 128 gig sandisk Sd card on Amazon and you got about 160 ish gigabytes of storage in total.
It does work all you have to do is update it then remove previous windows

The problem with this is that theirs no air vents so when u have to let it cool down once in a while
but on the plus side if you're cold then fire up a game that gets it running warm and you got yourself a heater.

You can upgrade it to 8gb/RAM. Installing Linux Mint, and wiping Windows from it, makes it quite usable.

I had the first 11” stream with 2GB of RAM and 32GB Drive and I liked it but windows 10 became unusable. Low RAM made it slow as hell and the drive wasn’t large enough for even the OS lol.

1920 X 1080 would be ideal for streaming an HD film through the HDMI port to an HD TV
without a black box round the screen, like the HP Stream 11 does (max res 1366 X 768).

so when I use it while charging it over heats and lags to the point where you can't even use it until you unplug it. i don't know if is only mine but i recommend you get some sort of fan since it doesn't have one inside
My space button has to click really hard to click it, and I have to click twice to turn it on, I have a usb mouse tho, but the thing that rlly annoys me is the click thing. It always goes in and I can’t click it back out. Very flimsy keyboard. But it’s ok.

It’s not meant for playing games. Although it can run certain games. I play creative destruction sometimes on it and it gets around 19 to 20 FPS lags a little

You will have to run it via USB3.0. so you're bottlenecked there. Just get a Micron, or ADATA SSD, get a USB3.0 enclosure, and run it externally. The EVO would be a waste of money on this computer.

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad 100S that's identical to this, but its RAM is cut down to just 2GB. I installed AntiX Linux earlier this year and it runs so much better than Lubuntu or Mint. It rarely occupies more than 800MB of RAM and really helps turn these machines into workhorses. And if you're looking to have a little fun, with Batocera Linux, you'll comfortably emulate up to N64 and Dreamcast. These machines are excellent for those like to tinker and work within the confines of its limitations.

I've had this laptop for 4 years. After a year of usage I haven't been able to upgrade it to the newest version of windows 10, I mainly use it for research, youtube, discord, and roblox (lowest graphics or set on 5 work decent). Overall it's a good laptop, yes it's slow at times but it's something that can be dealt with. *do not* get this laptop expecting to use it as a gaming laptop. If you are in a dim room, the lowest screen brightness setting works fine to keep the battery charged for a long time. Yes, if I could get a new laptop for $200 more I'd would love to, but I am not rich so will be using this laptop until it stops working properly. Thanks for reading, hope this was helpful. : )

It’s pretty painfully slow standard. But if you disable a lot of win 10 crap, background running apps, stuff that hogs resources, and then set the performance to maximum battery settings, processor minimum and maximum to 100% etc, it’s pretty impressive/decent at 2.5Ghz constant.
Worst part in the end is the 32GB memory.

Is it good for university students. I am getting a used 32 ssd hp stream.
I had two of these and they both would get really hot when streaming on Netflix and would crash.
I would have to waft it in the air until it cooled down and then it worked again and would carry on streaming the movie.

If you’re using it to type documents and watch videos yes. If you’re using heavy video or photo editing softwares programs than no.

by the specs of it (NO) your able to have 2 or 4 tab open before it start to refresh itself or start to lag.

idk what yalls issues with it are. i have the blue hp stream 14 and i have been able to play both my ps4 and xbox one s through remote play apps at the same time on the same screen. the video quality was more than decent and had very little lag. yall are being to critical for a laptop with such a low price tag. also if storage is a problem get a flash drive or an external usb drive.

ON alot of laptops the sound is bad because the manafactuers put speakers in bad places, but getting hp/dell they try to place speakers in very good places, since there products are "carefuly manafactured" so good job hp/dell!

Hi everybody i have a question about the charger of this computers. I bought 2 one for each of my daughters a purple and a blue one. One of my daughters lost her charger. My question is is the tip of the charger the same color as the computer? I didn't notices that until one of the chargers got lost. My oldest daughter has the purple computer but the charger is blue so i think is my others daughter charger. So i need to be fair with both of them.... Thank you for your help. This laptop is great, but only recently all my storage is gone from the update and no matter how much stuff I delete it still takes so much storage I barley have any, ive tried to get extra storage but none of them worked or theyre to small of storage :(

This would be perfect to use for music streaming going into a good USB DAC/AMP (and maybe with room correction/calibration software too) since it's also fanless. I try to listen to Amazon HD music from my Lenovo laptop into my DAC (because I hate using Bluetooth) and the fan noise is extremely annoying when listening to music. For the price it would be hard to beat for streaming music.

It’s an ok laptop for the price especially if you’re looking for something temporary I wouldn’t store any photos, projects etc. without a backup plan like a flash drive or something just bc it’s not the best but again if you need something just for school projects and your backing everything up then I’d say it’s a good choice
