I start watch your videos in Dec last year I first watched your video and I was so impressed that you made me watch it again and again, I pass my driving test because of your positive videos I am very proud of you 👍 thank you coach 🙏🏾 🙏🏾
Rick is a legend. I watched his videos years ago when I was getting my license for the first time and now I have a commercial license and can drive an 18-speed. Keep up the good work sir!
Thanks Rick! Great video as always. Some of these tips are not default behavior for people who haven't driven much in the snow. Slamming the brakes vs gently pumping the brakes with plenty of distance, not bunching up on the road etc., What would be interesting (and provides you with ideas for video content) is to take youtube videos where people are sliding on black ice on highways and bridges and then point out mistakes and what people can do in similar situations.
I'm glad you found it helpful, my friend. Happy driving! See this video for black ice: ua-cam.com/video/rYpgyNlF6cM/v-deo.html Drop us a note if you have questions. Cheers Rick
Great video. Doing a review of winter driving before winter driving the first time this year. Last year, the ABS did scare me the first time I experienced it during winter. I thought the car was breaking apart. Trying to reverse Google based on what it felt like did not return the intended results. It’s only after experiencing it the second time, did I guess it was the ABS system and I was able to Google better search terms to confirm it. I wish my driving school emphasized what it would feel like. It causes lots of distraction for a new driver when the car is skidding and you don’t know that those strong unexpected rumble vibrations under the foot pedal is the ABS.
It’s important to get to know how your car responds under different conditions. Glad you found a solution to your issue. There are many misunderstandings about how ABS (Anti-lock brakes) work and what these do...especially on ice and snow. All the very best, Cheers Rick
Hey Rick I don’t know if you have a video on this I don’t even know what their called but you know those 2 poles u pull into when you want to get into another lane like you pull ur car in and you have to wait for traffic to be clear in the front of you before you can proceed and you can’t back up because you all ready pulled in between the 2 poles to wait for track in front of you to clear before you can go do u have a video on it
@@smartdrivetest it’s right before you get to the heb it’s Tuckerson rode it’s that big gap idk how to pull into those properly to make my turn to the other side of the road with out interfering with other traffic behind me
I had snow and I remote start my car for it to warm up and it is all season tires and they are in good condition and my car is AWD but I know to drive cautious
Hi Rick. Good name, by the way. I am a Smart Driver, 58 years of age, with zero collisions in well over 2 million kilometres. I enjoy watching your videos very much. You and I think the same way when it comes to driving. It's nice to see someone that can explain clearly the science, and the art of driving. My 16 year old son recently got his '365' and I told him to learn from you, and he has. Unfortunately he lives an hour away with his mom in Pickering, so I am not his primary teacher. But I am glad he has you to learn from. Heck, even I have learned a few things from you. Thank you, Rick.
Thank you for your kind words my friend. You and I are the same vintage. ;0) As you said, driving is definitely a science and an art. And therein lies the challenge of driving. Happy to hear we can help out both you and your son. All the very best, Cheers Rick
Also, throw some extra clothes in the back of your car. Sweatpants, sweater, scarf, good hat, etc. In case you break down or have an accident. You'll appreciate it standing beside the car or walking for help.
Tip 2, I disagree. Any winter tire, even the cheapest one will outperform the most expensive all-season tire. They are critical for your safety. You will stop sooner and have better control. Also, people should be driving with their low beams on to stay visible.
You are correct about the winter tires my friend; however, that's just not the reality on our roads. The majority of vehicles simply don't have winter tires fitted. And yes, turn on your headlights to activate the tailights and increase visibility. All the best, Cheers Rick
@@smartdrivetest It's a shame winter tires aren't mandated in Ontario like how Quebec has done. I can only hope one day they become mandatory in Ontario.

That's awesome news my friend. Congratulations. Your hard work paid off. Happy to be included in your journey. All the very best, Cheers Rick

If you have a fender bender on a slippery road, stay in the car! Full away to a safe spot. Dont get out and stand in the icy road in traffic.
Yes, for sure. Keep yourself safe so you don't get clobbered by other traffic. All the best, Cheers Rick
