    Guys! Thank you so much for the info. I also called then with the rest of my concerns which they were very helpful and let me tell you those lights are GREAT!
    I've never seen anything like it before and I went through many brands before.
    My Tank looks like a million dollar Tank.... Thank you. NUVO and KESSIL together...

    A few things to add:
    1. the Link Cable is a just a simple male to male 3.5mm audio cable. You can buy them for a few dollars online instead of the $20 each that Kessil charges.
    2. Also, you may want to purchase them at a minimum of 8 ft lengths. Standard 6 ft cables are too short to properly hide the cable, if you're spacing the lights apart to each cover a 24" section.

    I own 2 of these tuna sun fresh water version. They are AUDIBLE - I can say they are even noisy. But the LIGHT is outstanding!!!!!! I don't wanna go away from the tank :)

    Your instructional videos are some of the best I have seen on UA-cam. The video quality is outstanding. I would like to give these lights a try. I have a 36 inch long tank which is of course right in between 30 and 40 inches so would 2 of the 360W work okay or should I use 3 of the narrow. Thanks!

    The only negative mentioned was the chord arrangement. You can buy a black plastic spiral coil from local hardware or computer store which will entwine you cables leaving it looking very neat and tidy - all you need is $5.

    To hide the wires, just wire tire to the goose neck, unscrew the base and put a black wire loom over the neck and wire. This will clean it up very nice.

    Another excellent video from BRS . Have not had a reef tank for years as I took my 90gal down and gave it away when I moved to take care of my parents .
    I have some spare time now and I am ready for anothet reef tank . Im considering innovative marine 30 or 40 fusion.

    Pro tip that I found out about the castle Link cable it is basically a 2 divided aux cord meaning that the end of the Oxford only has two black lines instead of 3 which would be used for a microphone not all of them work but some of them work so if you can't afford the Link cable are the Link cable is not long enough most aux cords will work on the plus side you can get aux cords in almost any color if that's what you want

    I know this light is discontinued but was hoping you could help me on a decision.Modifying a 14 gallon bio cube. It is going to be an anemone tank. Which light is best for me the 160 or 360? Is the 360 an overkill?

  • @courtney1846

    I have the a360n on a 60litre and it cast bad shadows on corals, usually only lighting one side, so I would not recommend buying a single fixture. Ai's are much better but the mounting options not so much (especially for nano), so thats why I switched over to kessil.

    Hello, I love this light and the shimmer lines have won me over. With that said, I have a 55g Tetra which I believe are 48" x 12" x 20". Can you please advise which version I should focus on? It mostly houses fishes, an anemone and a few frags.

    What about mounting these inside an existing ventilated canopy? I have an Oceanic 140 which is 48" x 24" x 29". I am thinking two of these would work nicely for my tank. The shimmer is amazing! Just concerned about heat and whether I can get the lights far enough off of the surface. The canopy is 12" high. Thoughts?

    Looking at getting a Kessil light for my CAD 34 mini II. The tank is 30"x16"x16" with about 4" of the rear width going to the sump area. I am looking to have the ability to house a few sps as well as lps, softies and a clam. Would you suggest a a360w-e or would an a160we suffice? (or would a narrow version be better?) Both are apex ready, correct?

    They can be controlled my an apex or reef keeper and kessil is working in a fixture I know this for a fact but they are utilizing the dense matrix led in the fixture I've seen prototype pics and you won't know when it's gonna be released because kessil is very tight lipped about their products and I don't blame them

    nice video! a few questions. if you have these lights on for 12 hours, what do you have on when they are off? do you need a separate moon light? or id=s there a moon light setting on the Kessil? If so would that mean these things are on 24/7? Do you even need a moonlight? I guess what im saying is, is the tank completely dark at any time? and when? sorry for all the nubbish questions and appreciate any response.

    I have a standard 180 72x24x24 would 3 wide angle 360s be ok for mixed reef? Also i have a recommendation of a video to help put the led vs halide power saving argument to rest. Such as setting up a tank in the 100+gallon range with the leds monitor the power consumption with heaters then run halides which wont run heaters all day and see what the results say. I feel my halides keep my tank up to temp and dont run the 600w of heaters i have if i ran leds the heaters would definatly run so what do ya think on that?

  • @karennation3580
    @karennation3580 4 роки тому

    so these arent just blue and white led's? I cant seem to find this out anywhere. I even called kessil and she said that the colors are there but you cant access them without the controller which seems kind of odd to me. Does that mean that there are leds that arent on, like green and reds? I know this is old but basically speaking of the 360 we I think its called. I know when you shined it on the all the colors showed so this goes against what kessil told me on the phone.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  4 роки тому

      There are a few different models out since this video was filmed. You're correct that to unlock the red, green, and violet control on the newer X series lights, you do need the controller or wifi dongle. That was not an option on the older A360we fixtures, however. They had more basic control.

    I am planning on setting up a reef tank with an Im nuvo 24 tank. I really want a maxima clam and I am trying to find an appropriate light. Would the kessil 150 be enough for a maxima? Ive heard over 100w led is enough, and considering the nuvo is so shallow I am hoping that the 150 would work. But maybe I should go for the 360? *****

    Ive heard Kessil is working on LED setup similar to AI and Radion appearance. Have you guys heard this?

    • @roberttrifts2737
      @roberttrifts2737 10 років тому

      I am not sure what you mean here. I have heard nothing about Kessil building an external controller like the AI Director if that is what you mean.
      You can control the Kessil on both the Apex and the Reefkeeper with the 0-10v control cable to ramp up and ramp down the lights during the day. The Kessil doesn't have the silly lightning storm effects of the AI, but what it does have is aesthetic appeal and a shimmer that no other light can match. That's why I bought the 360W.
      I think it speaks volumes when the owner of the largest Internet reef hardware shop who can put, literally, **any light he wants into his office tank** chose to install the Kessil 360W.

    • @ReeferGil
      @ReeferGil 10 років тому

      No not a controller, but rather going from the cylinder like look of the light to one that is similar to the AI or Radion.

      Robert Trifts Sorry Robert. I just read the rest of your message, I had to hit "show more". Still getting used to Google+. My LFS has Kessil A360's throughout their store and all of them are controlled by their Apex units. These lights are everything Ryan says they are. If I were to make the switch today, I'd be confident with buying Kessils.

    • @roberttrifts2737
      @roberttrifts2737 10 років тому +1

      *****
      Oh I understand now. No I have not heard that and I strongly doubt it.
      The look of the Kessil pendant is one of its strongest design features and one of the things that sets it apart from its competition. It's a compact design which saves on space, shipping volume, and materials to lower cost and increase cooling efficiency which is possible becauseof Kessil's LED cluster-on-a-chip patented design.
      It's also this "single point of light" design which enables the Kessil's distincitive shimmer effect.
      So Kessil doesn't have to do this more wasteful "puck design" with larger Cree LEDs that AI and other competitors have to do to achieve what Kessil can do all one one chip. That's the reason those other lights can't look like a Kessil. They don't have that patented LED cluster-on-a-chip that DiCon owns, so they have to kludge multiple LEDS through a much larger and klunkier "puck" platform, or a long array, etc.. That design dictates the competitors' shape and size of their lamp arrays, making them bigger, longer, heavier, and less efficient at cooling.

It's running at 85% spectrum and 65% intensity. It's a 30 gal tank with a water depth of 14" and the light 5.5" off the surface of the water. The monti was 5" from the surface of the water at a 62° angle.

    I'm In the process of buying some led's but would like to have a day and night effect without me turning a nob. do this led have a setup like this ?? do the blue and day lights have a different power strip ??

    • @roberttrifts2737
      @roberttrifts2737 10 років тому

      Not a different power strip, but a different control channel on the 0-10v cable. If you don't want to muss with the knobs, you can use an external controller to do it. The Reefkeeper Lite (basic) with the ALC module installed will allow you to do this, but the Kessil is too bright to be used to simulate a moonlight. You would want to add the moonlight module on either the Apex or RK to achieve that.

    How many lights are needed for a 40 gallon long? We have one. Is it possible for now to build one side of the tank under the one light or is 2 really needed for intensity? Thank you!

      Btw I have one A150W sky blue 10,000 K. I don't see any more of those on BRS. What corals would do well with 1 A150w Sky blue for a 40 gallon? Would I need another one and because I can't find any A150w Sky blue in the store what is comparable or would I need the 360? Can a a150 Sky blue go will a 360 on a 40 gallon? Thank you

      +BulkReefSupplyCom My boyfriend measured 3 feet long and 18 inches wide but it doesn't seem this big. It's a 40 long. Just trying to figure out if one or 2 is needed. Also what corals can grow with one kessil in a 40 long? Currently we have 3 pajama cardinals and a shrimp plus cleanup crew crabs and snails. Tank running over a month, new small pajama fish added 2 days ago. There is 28lbs of live rock.

    I want to set up a 4 foot tank that is 2.5 feet deep and both soft and hard corals, what would be better, 2 A360s or 3 A160s?

    So the Kessil has no built in timer And it doesn't do dawn and dusk modes? Thanks!

      The A360WE fixture in this video does not. The newer A360X doesn't have a built-in timer, but can be dimmed for dawn to dusk affects. You can control the A360X either with the wifi dongle or Spectral Controller X.

    Can the goose neck attach to a non thin edge older black plastic braced tank?

    Could you cut a hole in the bio cube lid and set it on top instead of hanging it?

      I would likely not try to do this. The heat from the light could cause issues with the lid, or lens depending on how this is done.

    @J Gibb: I have had 2 MaxSpect 420's (16000) on my 225 gallon for 2 years. I have had the power supply go out in one and now most of the blue LED's have gone out. Units are only 2 years old! That's only ~8700 hours on the LED's! I am also considering this Kessil. Although, it doesn't have the "Lightening storms" and other stuff like the EcoTech Radion has, as long as it can "ramp up" and "ramp down" being programmed, I'm Okay with that. After all, most tanks that have had MH, like mine in prior years, they just turned on and off and no ramp up!
    My question is this: My tank is 24"w X 31"d X 72"L with Euro-bracing. How many Kessil's would I need and with what lens(s)?

      ***** Thanks for the reply. I have had one of the two supplies go out on the MaxSpect...Now it's just the loss of the LED's and lenses. I think I want to go with the Kessils, not only for their quality but they are good for deep tanks and mine is 31". I am intrigued that Kessil states that even the Radion controller will work with their lights? I would love to see that in action to see if it can still do the "Lightening" and other effects? I would then, be sold!

      ***** Just an FYI...I called Tech Services at Kessil and they said that their lights would indeed work with a Radion Controller should you want all of the fancy "Lightening" and "Cloud Movements" that can be programmed with it. For what it's worth...Cheers!
