Thank you, very much! Never went to school for music, opting to go for the "school of experience". Looking back, I wish I'd gone, but I'm still having fun the slow way!
You're so welcome Bing! I learned to play the mountain dulcimer a few years ago and was only a fair player. I was going to a Dulcimer group here locally and we kinda learned from each other. They stopped meeting and my Dulcimer playing has dwindled to say the least. I also picked up the Native American flute after listening to some great players like Douglas Spotted Eagle and others. There was a Native American guy who ran a store nearby and I purchased a Coyote Old Man flute from him. I guess I got to be fair on it. I was asked to play at a wedding, but with work and life, I haven't played much on it lately either. Your music is an inspiration to pick them up again ( my dog's not to happy about the flute. Ha!). Anyway, just wanted to say thank you for blessing all of us with such great, heartfelt, inspiring music! Can't wait to listen to more through UA-cam and your website. I need to sign up for your instructional podcast. Thanks again Bing and God's blessings to you!!
Wow! I just inherited a mountain dulcimer from a friend's estate. He usually played guitar along with my mandolin or banjo, but occasionally we could break into some real traditional, and traditional sounding, stuff. This is a real inspiration to all musicians as it shows just how far, yet faithful you can go. Thanks!

After finding Mr. Futch's teachings I have the courage to try and play my mountain dulcimer! It is a great gift to give someone hope. Mr. Futch has done just that! Thank you kind sir and God Bless you and yours.
Thank you, Teresa! I'm so happy to be helping you with the mountain dulcimer; it's truly an instrument of joy. May you find peace and comfort every time you play!
HI Bing ..caught your show a last yrs walnut valley fest....loved it... also love your use of loopers on this vid.....i used to loop with guitar but my hands are damaged now......hoping i can learn to loop on the dulcimer
Take a look at the RC-3 or RC-30 loopers by Boss. They're easy to use and add quantizing so that you don't have to worry so much about setting the loop accurately.
Love love love this song !( Its my ringtone on my phone) Am a newbie but lately I have been so drawn to the dulcimer bc it gives me such pleasure, makes me relax in a very stressful world I just sit down and pluck away and life seems good~ Glad to know that this can be played on dulcimer and not only on fiddle !
Wow! Loved it, awesome job Bing. I am 63 years young and just bought a Dulcimer a few weeks ago. I've never played an instrument in my life and have always wanted to learn to play something. I know I won't ever reach your level but will be happy to be able to play a recognizable song. You are great at playing and really enjoyed listening to you. Thanks for sharing!

Dearest Bing, how in the world do you make a dulcimer sound like it belongs with The Alan Parson Project?? This is the most amazing playing I've ever seen/heard! I've become a Patron and love everything you do plus your teaching style is great.
You can compare me to Alan Parsons as often as you like. : ) Thank you for the kind words - the stuff I do with the stomp boxes doesn't always fly with traditionalists and purists, but it sure is a ton of fun! Thanks for your support!
@@-jank-willson There are bowed dulcimers that are played cello-style upright, and they an be a bit longer than standard dulcimers. Some people also play standard mountain dulcimers with a bow in the laying down position.
Haha, nice, I understand. When I saw Gary Gallier rippin' on some blues years ago, I decided to take the leap, too! Many dulcimer festivals have a dulcimer doctor that will install those frets for you around $25 a piece. Well worth it to have an actual dulcimer builder do the work. Guitar luthiers sometimes don't understand our instrument enough to work on it. Good luck!
Bing: You should arrange to have a sound engineer for your next episode. The side man bass drowned out the finger work which from what I could hear, was brilliant. Keep up the great work. I hope to see you do a recording on one of your next works. Jim Ihrig

I see you have some type of peddle for sound effects, what about the sound itself? Have you done anything with the GT-1, make your own sounds for an electric dulcimer? Would you consider offering some 'how to' ' on the Boss GT-1? What sounds go with what types of music and how to make them for the dulcimer?
I answered this on another post, but wanted to put the info here as well: Primarily, I've got the octave pedal for bass and a delay pedal to color the sound, but nothing else. I use a looper to stack tracks. Working on a prototype MIDI dulcimer with Terry McCafferty that will use Roland synth pedal - development may take some months here, haven't heard back from him yet.
