Ah, yes, the Kinder Surprise Egg controversy, stirred up every time they're mentioned, by people who don't understand that they're selling a wholly different product in the United States, as opposed to the rest of the world.

We have records of “Mama” going back to Ancient Sumer, to the “original” mother, Inana. So it appears early on in language, branching off into both Semitic & Indo-Sanskrit pathways.

The only relatives were I called them by name was my mothers parents. I was told by them that I sound like a baby and to be an adult they requested I use there names. Most of the time I just called them gram and gramps.

As far as mama goes, this video explanation makes sense. We probably also want our babies to ask for us first, so the babble of mmaaammaaaammaaa means "mom" to us when really it means, "Bring the food bags, now!"

I've had intense arguments with people over Kinder Surprise vs. Joy eggs. It's baffling to me that it's so controversial.

I'm an American millennial and call my dad "Poppa," which lots of people find weird! It's just been passed down from his Italian family.
