The Real Reason Sharks Usually Don't Eat Humans, Even After Biting
Переглядів 686День тому
The idea of sharks not liking the taste of humans has been around for at least a half a century, with the first account of this notion (that we could find) appearing in a Sep. 2, 1968 edition of The Evening Independent in an article titled "Expert Says Sharks Dislike Human Taste". In it, the associate curator of vertebrate paleontology at the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History, Dr She...
What was It Like to Be a Medieval Executioner?
Переглядів 4,5 тис.28 днів тому
Ever wonder what it was like to be an executioner in the ballpark of Medieval times in Europe and how someone got the job in the first place? Well, wonder no more. As to the latter question, it turns out that many European Medieval executioners were former criminals themselves. You see, for reasons we'll get into shortly, the role of executioner was so unpopular that finding someone to do the j...
The Greatest Lockpicking Mic Drop

In April 1851, Alfred C. Hobbs boarded the steamship Washington bound for Southampton, England. His official duty was to sell the New York City-based company Day and Newell’s newest product - the parautopic lock - at a trade show - London’s Great Exhibition. But Hobbs had something a bit more nefarious up his sleeve, or rather in the small trunk that accompanied him on the ship. In it sat a lar...
The Surprisingly Oompa-Loompaless Rise of the Mars Candy Company
Переглядів 9622 місяці тому
The legendary Roald Dahl's book Charlie & Chocolate Factory from 1964 (and its subsequent film adaptations) told the story of a magical candy factory and its eccentric and mysterious owner Willy Wonka. A chocolate river, gum that is a whole turkey dinner, never-ending gobstoppers, and, of course, the singing and dancing oompa-loompas are just a few of the surprises that waited inside the doors ...
Is It Legal to Land a Helicopter or Passenger Drone in a Parking Lot?
Переглядів 6962 місяці тому
While the question of whether a helicopter can legally land in a fast-food parking lot may seem absurd on the surface, given the not totally improbable coming of ubiquitous drones capable of carrying people around from point to point, this question may actually have a lot of relevance in coming years. So can such aircraft currently legally land in random parking lots? Author: Karl Smallwood Hos...

From the Back of a Bike to Billionaire- The Inspiring Story of Sriracha Sauce
Переглядів 8823 місяці тому
The genesis of Sriracha hot sauce (pronounced sir-ah-cha, contrary to what many think) becoming the condiment staple it is today can be traced back to 1975 and an unassuming Vietnamese refuge called David Tran- the founder and current CEO of Huy Fong Foods. Following the Vietnam war, Tran, who was a Major in the South Vietnamese army and otherwise made his living making sauces, fled Vietnam wit...

At the same time, the east coast of the U.S. had something of...

Pineapple on Pizza is similar to Ketchup on Hot Dogs. It is for those whose tastes have not fully matured yet.
If you like sweet and sour pork, but not Hawaiian pizza... You're a hypocrite that needs to take a severe look at your life choices.
Satan!?
Just a heads up, it's "Chat-am" as far as pronunciation vs "Chath-um"
Ah… so that’s the infidel di pizzeria…
Eeeew 😅
By the time you got to the diner-y place it came from, I had forgotten it wasn't just about the history of pizza in general.😂
I don't care who invented the Hawaiian pizza, but its awesome!!!
Of course it was invented by a guy who looks like Emperor Palpatine. Everything just clicks.
Hawaiian pizza? Thanks but no thanks. Not my style.
I found thst very interesting. Thank you.
I like Hawaiian pizza.
You have no taste in food.
I like Hawaiian pizza!
@cbdy1358 And you admit it?
@@lordMartiya We’re here. We like Hawaiian pizza. Get used to it.
@NoahSpurrier Oh, I'm used to it. After all, on peacekeeping missions Americans troops buy from the Italians rations we consider fit for pigs.
Who? The devil himself, obviously.

Good bye 👋
Good thing there's less than 100 shark attacks on humans per year, and less than a dozen fatalities per year. JAWS really did a number on human psychology. Maybe that doctor can beat it out of us with his sandbags! I'll skip my requisite Dave 'n' Whiskey comment this time around...
we don't have mouth-feel.
Funny that Dr. Applegate is the person mentioned... I remember the centaur like aliens in KA Applegate's Animorphs (books back in 90s) could eat/taste via their hooves. The name brought back memories of that series and that particularly 'weird' feature of those aliens. A shark having different layers in their teeth w/ various sense structures (beyond touch) = along the same line. Its quite true that IF we want to look at what 'aliens might be like: we need only investigate the creatures in our own oceans'...Cuz that is a truly alien world (compared to what we see on land).
Meanwhile we find sharks are delicious: Sharks, best check yourself before we grill yo self.
Spoiler: most ppl won't want to have it tho. Mako is among the smelliest things I've EVER put in my frig. Even AFTER 3-5 washes ea. of whole milk, and water...it still smelled super 'fishy' 10/10. Frig stank of fish for over week after it'd been out of frig.
Somehow I knew Karl was involved when I read the title. LOL!! He doesn't like the ocean. LOL!! Well done Davon. Cheers from Tennessee
I'm just glad Karl had NOTHING to do with the script reading lol That guy sounds like a chimney sweeper falling into a woodchipper.
@jeffdroog 🦨💨
Doesn't like water? Witch, He's a WITCH! Give him the test: if he floats (like a duck), he's a WITCH!
Thanks for the quickie facts Devon 🎉
The right way to play monopoly is to not play it at all and play a better fucking board game.
I thoughtPolio but I was wrong. Charle’s Story is just so amazing
What was it like being an executioner at this time outside of Europe?
Is that a kukri on the bookshelf over left shoulder? Pretty
Looks more like a Jambiya to me. The lower blade part should be much wider for a kukri, and the angle greater I agree it's pretty.
A gift from my Indian sister in law. Was one of her ancestor's knives. She knows I love old knives (and making knives). So brought it back for me from India many years ago. It's a super nice one. :-) And it is indeed a kukri. -Daven
Always imagined it a lot more erotic
So, essentially, you are saying that 1200's parents who heard their daughter dating a doctor would turn about gripping their chest, crying loudly about it, killing them, while in our lifetime, parents get excited. Got it. I think. So. Wait. Executioners were killers, torturers, and doctors. Right. So, the transition to dentist was very natural.
I heard that exucutiners were covering there face from god not from the people gow true is that ?
Holy shit bro, you’ve got a whole lot of books!!
A lifetime's collection. :-) At one point I was creating a set years ago and unhappy with it. Sitting in my library contemplating how I could make it better, I realized my library was already a great set. 😋 -Daven
next to a brothel sounds like a dream for a bro ho was about to be killed and now just got a job, a payment, a LIVING space ! uff what an improvment, maybe he was a thief in the first place because he was homeless starving and broke? now he got the ladies next door come on ! sign me in :D
9th/10th Amend = IF fed/state hasn't passed explicit laws about it being illegal = Unenumerated Constitutional Right. Want to juggle chainsaws while operating a crane? No law against it? = LEGAL. No law regarding 'where a parking lot' can be? or what can/can't be considered a 'unpaved, unregulated, private airstrip'? = Anything can be an airstrip: a roof, a lawn, a set of pontoon boats tied together w/ zipties (flat decking/ no stuff on them). Rights are literally Infinite. Its what freedom is.
Was going to comment that I feel you covered this in a Today I found out with Simon a few years back but as usual more info in this.

$500 was a LOT more than $11,000. That's a direct exchange based on inflation but fails to take into account buying power. $500 would have bought a house and land, a small farm or a large parcel of grazing land. To correctly explain amounts from that long ago it is better to explain what they would have bought rather than current value.
