    You have to "BEFAST" with stroke patients. The mnemonic BEFAST can be used to help you evaluate this neurological emergency. I look forward to seeing you succeed in EMT/Paramedic school.
    Be great,

    This training as an elementary school child saved my grandfathers life when he had a stroke and I recognized and called my parents who in turn sent an ambulance immediately!

    Also use asking them to smile to help determine if it is a heart attack. Rule out stroke if they can smile.

    E- also the terrifying experience of watching one pupil blow. That's never a good sign. Thankfully the worst time I saw that was while waiting for OR staff to come to get her.

      The public school system is too busy dealing with gay/straight support groups and discussing whether they should have separate bathrooms for transvestites and transsexuals, and that America is a racist country. So, they don't have the time or the desire or the interest to discuss topics that are important.

    T - Time is important because ischemic strokes (from a bloodclot) can only be treated with "clotbusters" in the first three hours after symptom onset, which is why they say "be fast!"

    • @chrisvinciguerra4128
      @chrisvinciguerra4128 Рік тому +7

      I think the nature of it being an emergency medical event is why it you should “be fast” more than specifically because of that certain treatment window for a specific type of stroke.

    I wish I had known this. My dad had a stroke, and I didn't recognize the signs. I didn't call an ambulance because I thought he was just having a nightmare, and my older brother said not to bother because he was fine. Now I feel guilty for life. The doctor said we could have stopped it if we had called as soon as possible.

    I have personally experienced witnessing a few strokes. I have seen their eyes tracking slow or separately. Extremely slow reactions, movements. One had dizziness and vomiting, with double vision, unless one eye was closed.

    now listen there are "Mini Strokes" and "Mini Heart Attacks" like no permanent Damage but if they add up... that is leading to a "Major Stroke & Heart Attack"...you ignore that "Signs" its too late...the Body itself warns you "Months" before heavy Damage to your Body...so its very important to listen to even simple Pains and "abnormal" Disfunctions...just sayin...i did not wrote that whole paragraph for nothing...it happened to me...take care of your self Fellas :) :) :)

    My grandpa had a stroke in 2019, wheelchair bound, tried to get into his wheelchair, couldn't grip it well, slurred speech, facial droop. Medics arrive, transport him to the downtown hospital, since they were better equipped for stroke pts. We placed him in a home for recovery month later he passes. While on phone with dispatch we did the test. Time- 30mins from being normal self was when we noticed

    Something important to note for people watching this is not all strokes will look like someone disoriented with one side out of commission. They can be someone having a lot of trouble making sentences and disoriented, because strokes can happen in different parts of the brain
