I am preparing for an exam in 2-months time and I need a more comprehensive class to prepare for the exam as I do not have time for physical classes. Please I earnestly await a prompt response. Can you please explain why, at 13:14 the fact that it's a long term strategy means that we measure at FVTOCI? In my university lecture notes it says the exact opposite, "when the objective of the entity is to trade in such financial assets and not hold to maturity, measure at FVTOCI" I am quite confused and would appreciate help, thanks.
When holding assets purely for the purpose of trading them, these have to be measured at FVTPL. Financial assets can be measured under FVTOCI when looking to collect the contractual cashflows AND where the entity looks to increase returns where possible (ie. sell the asset if you believe you can achieve higher returns elsewhere) but not when the business model is purely the intention of trading the asset.
@@Matt-uy5tw This is correct. you have hit the nail on the head. FA measured through OCI when such asset is available for sales . I.e. It is neither held for trading purpose nor held till maturity. It is in-between the two.

Dude..ur college note is wrong.if we intend to keep the FA to maturity we will measure it FVOCI

It is an investing activities segment of Cashflow. Acquiring shares of companies is an investment not financing .
