Well Mike, what a beautiful ornament and thanks so much for sharing the air nozzle tip trick...! Like Al Furtado says..." There's always a way around it....! "
Mike, When I use a jam chuck I make the center hole 13/16. Then I can use a 3/4 dowel through my chuck and the jam chuck to tap out whatever is being held. I round off the edges of the dowel with sandpaper so the edges won't damage the work piece. It makes the jam chucks last longer also. Nice job on the video.
Wow! You must have a large spindle. The center hole for PM3520 is only a shade more than 3/8". Don't think it would be strong enough because of the length required.
Mike ... I have been doing something a bit unusual with my jam chucks that can help get a tightly fit piece out. I drill a hole with a Forstner bit large enough to get a finger into along the outside of the recess (in addition to the center hole you drilled). When I get a stubborn piece, a little persuasion from the backside usually cures the problem.BTW ... I bought the same glue gun you recommended a week or two back. It is a great improvement over the craft shop cheapie I had been using.
Was that one of Doug's 3/8 detail gouges? Looks like one of his, but I can never gage tool diameters on youtube-not that some other size wouldn't work. Thanks, --Joe
Very nice with a detailed procedure.
Thanks
James
A great project Mike, and a well explained step by step guide on how to achieve it.
Take care
Mike
Thanks, Mike!
Brilliant wee video Mike, really enjoyed that one 😎

The more I turn the more options I find. Thanks, Jack.
Isn't that the truth...!

I usually make my jam chucks to be held by a four jaw chuck. I take the chuck off of the lathe before removing the work piece with the dowel.
Of course, Duh. Why didn't I think of that? Great tip, thanks for sharing.

Great tip, Gerald. Thanks for sharing. I will give that a try.
