  • Pernkopf's Atlas is a comprehensive anatomy textbook that was first published in the 1930s. The atlas was created by Dr. Eduard Pernkopf, a professor of anatomy at the University of Vienna, and features detailed illustrations of the human body. The atlas was widely used by medical students and professionals for many years, but has recently come under controversy due to allegations that the illustrations were created using the bodies of executed political prisoners during the Nazi regime. This has led to calls for the atlas to be removed from medical education and for alternative anatomy resources to be used instead. In this UA-cam video, I will explore the history of Pernkopf's Atlas, the controversy surrounding its use, and the ethical implications of using the atlas as a teaching resource.

Great video. Clear and concise without biasing an opinion. Great jumping off point to study such ethical dilemma. Personally I am against banning books. Personally I think using more modern sources would be a great idea regardless of thoughts of this old work but preventing use or viewing of a book is anathema to me. I hate the bible and feel it is a vile hateful book full of the glorification of genocide, but I wouldn't want to ban it. Just disagreeing with content or where it came from is a poor reason to ban anything.

Thank you for the feedback! We are in total agreement on the question of banning books. We are on opposite sides of the fence when it comes to the Bible, but I'm glad we both enjoy the freedom to debate these issues without fear of reprisal :)
