Great overall intro to the cello and the fundamentals of playing. Tons of basic info which will take a long time to cover in practice. Ms. Grief has quite a library of performances on her website and a detailed schedule of performances in 2025.
Enjoyed that, thank you. Nothing confusing about it, ignore that numpty. I bought a cello as a prop and figured i'd have a tinker as a result, so I watched a few beginner videos that assumed too much knowledge, but this was perfect for both the lingo and basic tips to get started.
Nobody mentions that a beginner must learn to tune his or her own cello. The pegs in my cello were very difficult to manipulate- they either stuck or so loose the strings would unravel. Very frustrating.
As a beginner, I first used the pegs to tune my cello, and then I messed them up. So I had to take it back to the music store to get it properly re-tuned. I was told the fine tuners are what you mostly use, not the pegs. The pegs should only be used when you are changing strings or if a string has slipped severely for whatever reason.
@@michaelblaney4461 I would love geared pegs. But my cello was made in Germany at the turn of the 20th century. And is quite special. So I'd like to leave it intact. Perhaps a newer cello with geared pegs would be a good idea. Thanks Michael.
Thank you for a very clear video. Great for this beginner! ❤
Great instruction , very clear

I wonder whether you offer on line lessons
That was a great tutorial, thank you!
Excellent! loved the wrist exercises and explanation of that C shape we are looking to have.

Simple solution , Geared Pegs join the 21st century😮

@@marichristian I know some instruments you might not want to change , Funny thing is double basses have had tuning machines for over 100 years😊
@@michaelblaney4461 I can just imagine tuning a double bass with wooden pegs. It would be like a wrestling match.
She's the best looking teacher on UA-cam!
Sit so you can comfortably rotate your body through 360 degrees
پس چرا صدای 🐄میده
You look like a goddess. Like the cello was made to sit in your lap just for you to play it. Thank you for this.
Can't see the leg part
I'm just not learning anything with this video...just way too much distraction.
Utterly confusing for a beginner
