This is literally GOLD for my ADHD. when im understimulated i need BRAIN ON. And when im overstimulated i def need brain off. Sounds obvious, but i never like realised consciously. And I saw your shorts about it and my brain went 🤔💡. I always wondered why all my hobbies felt like no fun. Because the ones i was thinking about werent serving what i needed in the moment!!

me literally crocheting as I watch this 😂 I think for me, crocheting can be "brain on" when I start a project & am trying to figure out what I'm meant to be doing, but once I feel familiar with the instructions it's more brain off. Like you, I struggle to watch things if that's the only thing I'm doing, so crochet is often a go-to for me while I'm watching youtube videos.

Im surprised you didn’t mention an instrument. Piano is my #1 hobby. I memorize everything so it can either be brain on or brain off. Learning a new section of a piece can be very challenging & definitely occupies your mind & it can be SO SATISFYING & exciting adding a new piece to the puzzle building on what you’ve already learned when things start sticking & you see the improvement before you eyes/ears. & then I just love playing the pieces I’ve already learned purely using muscle memory which is great cuz it takes like 25% brain power & I can just get really into it & feel the music as I play, which is also so satisfying & makes me feel really empowered like wow I’m just casually playing this impressive piece like a talented musician🥰🎹✨

I think you're right about textile crafts being in the middle, but not just for the reason you said. Once you're good at a craft and have collected a bunch of sub-skills, you then have the ability to work on projects that will be brain off OR brain on, depending on what you're in the mood for. The possibility space is massive with these, and you can totally tailor them to whatever experience you want or need in that moment (once you clear a certain skill barrier, of course).

One of my personal favorite brain on hobbies is note taking. It can kinda fall in the middle depending on the day but finding a good video on a topic you want to learn more about or just like the vibes of is great to just take notes on and relax!

I’m an artist and I totally agree with you about oil pastels! I think another thing that makes them a good “brain-off hobby” is that they’re so tactile and fun sensory-wise. Smuding and blending them all over the paper with my hands is so freaking soothing 🥸

Such a true point about cozy games being different for different people and different times. I have been loving getting into cozy games (thanks to binging your channel while trying to recover from burnout), but I will never play one that involves time-crunch-task-management. I'm gaming as a break from work--I don't want to have the stresses of work in a game! 😂 But I totally get that a lot of people really love building worlds and communities in things like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley.
Great video with lots of variety of recommendations, and more tools for our fun/relaxation toolbox! 🥰

I hope lots and lots of people get into gardening!!! Not too sure how things work in the US but over here (Australia) we have lots of monthly gardening magazines that covers topics from how to structure your garden to the basics. Gardening Australia is a great show that’s given some good tips. Most of my gardening knowledge though has come from volunteering in a community garden. It’s a pretty simple hobby (depending what you want to grow) but every plant has the same steps, just in different degrees. My only thing is to be educated on what’s invasive in your area as even if it’s invasive it can be sold in stores !! I also highly encourage people to plant natives along with your veggies.

You CAN garden. Even a small outdoor space can be used for a big vegetable garden. I follow be a farm girl here on UA-cam and she has opened up my world to the Greenstalk vertical gardener. In my apartment I only have a small patio out front and let me tell you I fit two of those out there and I have about 100 plants now growing food. you can even put them on a balcony. They only take up 2 feet of space and can grow about 42 plants each. They are life-changing.

This was so fun! I’m a knitter and agree with some of the other comments about textile crafts and your own categorization as them in the middle of brain on and off. I have some knitting projects/ steps of a knitting project that are completely brain off because I’ve been knitting for years and can knit stockinette or ribbing without looking/thinking. But then I’ll have shaped sweaters, cables, lace, and color work that requires brain on. I love love the versatility of knitting for that reason and it’s part of why I struggle to do other cozy hobbies even though I’d love to paint and game more. Knitting is just so all encompassing for me!

Also if you like to eat healthy you can grow sprouts in your window sills and use them in multiple food recipes :))

For gardening, just having a little herb garden m in the kitchen window or a raised planter on an apt patio is good for beginning gardening. I also recently purchased a few citrus trees since they take a couple years to produce mature enough and are okay with being grown in containers for quite a while. Also they smell divine when they are flowering!

Listen, I LOVE gardening, and have taken over my bf's back patio with grow bags. It is super fulfilling and relaxing, but it's definitely not a cheap hobby. Just a caution because I know sometimes jumping into new hobbies can become stressful when you don't really budget accordingly. It's been a very slow building hobby for me even from one year to the next, but I HIGHLY recommend everyone try growing and nurturing something.

There's been a few times where coloring while listening to a fantasy audiobook chilled me out TOO much, people are dying and things are on fire and I'm just like: la la la la la~ 😂 but I do love it🤭

Wingspan!!!! So good and also available on Steam and Switch. Cannot recommend more. I play against a computer to wind down and the relaxing music makes me sleepy. ☺️

Hi Cozy K i changed my sheets and I vacuumed my room and cleaned the bathroom and I was playing on my Nintendo Switch and I was having a blast I love logging on to animal crossing and seeing all of my villagers and my island 🏝️ is still not finished I am hopefully going to finish my island and fully decorate my island and upgrade my house 🏡 and get the upgraded storage because I want to store more furniture ❤😊 and decorate the outside of my house 🏡 on the exterior 😊 I was playing palia yesterday and the game rudely kicked me out it’s so frustrating I need to get a new Nintendo Switch at some point 😊

I was so frustrated with my first Wool & The Gang knitting project but once I got started I finished all the episodes of Succession. With that being said, the instructions said it would take about eight hours.. no ma'am, this was more like forty! 🤣

I recently was considering getting an iPad because I saw another influencer say she does her crosswords on it. It made me think there's probably other hobbies I could do on an iPad and would love for you to do an iPad/tablet-specific hobbies video!! or just a general what's on my iPad and what I use my iPad for!!

I wanted to recommend a brain off cozy game that I don't ever see mentioned in these line ups: Overcrowd (Commute em up). I also consider Civ6 a brain off cozy game but I have like a thousand hours in that game so that might just be because it's a core skill for me at this point, I also play it on low or medium difficulty, like all games because I don't like to stress out over them.
Brain on cozy game would be Hogwarts Legacy for me, I had to finish the call I was on because I couldn't do both (and I have ADHD). Also, The Planet Crafter, although once you get it going it gets pretty lulll in the middle so then it's a brain off, in fact I would just leave it going on the computer and do something else in the meantime so that the terraformation progresses but I don't have to do anything.
