+Ottobot OCDP lol
LOL
Lol.
Lol
and hey, at least I made a drum mute!
cut a hole in in the drum mute, so you get the feel of the head and it might help the sound.
I honestly thought it sounded pretty good. It sounds like a synthesized snare, is it too quiet to actually play live though?
Just tested this, a torrilla makes a great drum mute.
And it doubles as a snack in case of emergency
epic comments
but the tomato sauce looks like someone died like got beat to death on the drums...
@@Lauren-vd4qe metal drummers would love that
@@koifish528 ha ha!
It made the floor tom sound like a double pedal
Be sure to stick around until next week to see my review on the actual Big Fat Snare Drum!
Get it "stick" around :D
I definately disagree!
Can't wait!
Sounded cool on the floor tom...
tdrum21 yeah almost like a small bass drum
In all honesty I love the way the cork sounds on the snare & fl tom. Like having a high-end roll-off or something. Sounds lo-fi. Some may not like this sound, but I dig it! Fat & Punchy.👍🏼
It sounded amazing on the floor tom
I enjoy all your videos. The cork makes the drum speak just a bit late, which affects the groove slightly, whereas the cutting mat sounds better, IMO, and the drum speaks quicker, allowing for a better groove.
Woooo it sounds so cool on the floor tom
Use a pancake
RedRat20002 vulfy
He should do that
Hey mate, been loving all your vids, keep to them coming. What's the general Kick Floor Snare pattern your playing around with at 4:10. sounds great.Appreciate it.
I love the cork on the floor tom sound . How long does the cork last in terms of durability? It seems like the sticks might start chipping it
apart at some point.
80's snare without electronic shit and (lot's of) processing
I don't like that kind of snare sound, but it can be easily applied
Nice job!
The cork is great for not disturbing your neighbors
Love your experiments..what if you cut a big hole in the cork to leave it like a cork ring???
Hey david, what if you cut a big hole in the cork and try to use it as a ring and also try just about a 6" round piece of cork in the center of the snare
I just now realized you're from Richmond, I had seen the Deep Groove decal but just guessed it was from a trip there, bu I'e been to that Goodwill alot, lovely place
+Jackson Anderson Awesome! You're the first to figure that out haha
+rdavidr greetings from Hampton Roads! Love your channel.
You should make a video on how to make a drum pad (practice pad)
Okay what about this try one of those slip mats used for vinyls ? I’ve seen them on record players and there already cut in the shape of a circle and have really awesome patterns
Tama has recently started selling some kind of 6mm thick foam rings (called Soft Sound Rings) that they claim reduce the volume of the drums while retaining their tone. I'm skeptical about the volume reduction, but either way I bet the design would work well with the cork. Maybe an idea for a new video?
you should cut the cork thing into strips and add them to the drum to see how much you need for a good sound. or cut circles out of the middle until you cut out enough for a good sound.
Try using it on the bottom head of the snare. Without the vibrations of the spring it would sound low and fat. Worth a try.
Great channel fellow musician/inventor.
That drum is deep and low tuned, why not give it a funky high tune and then use the thick wood bark thing?
So creative, progress all the same
So mutiful!!
Yeah its a great idea, this will totally work
For my second snare I just use a thick hydraulic head upside down over the normal batter head, works wonders.
Hey, rdavidr!
I live in an apartment and I would love to play drums. I have an idea and I would like to ask if you would make a video of it, please:
Will you put pillows, blankets and etc. inside the shell pack in order to quiet the drums? The cymbals could have light towels on top to quiet them. The goal is to diminish the volume dramatically, yet maintain the individual sounds of the drum pieces.
Thanks in advance. Cheers!
Sounds good.🙂👍🏾
I think it's just too heavy. Maybe if you cut out the middle and made a ring out of it?
That's what I was thinking
~ presses pause ~ I think it's gonna break up within two minutes of playing
It sounded nice on the floor tom
Cork mat sounded pretty good.
what was that song with the rhodes?
Hey david, what's the intro song you use? I need to know man
Yo I'm wondering the same thing here. Shazam doesn't recognize it.
jonah butler He uses his own tracks that he produces. Check his Soundcloud, Shazam won't help
What about turning the cork into an o ring?
does it make the drums less loud?
What if you cut a hole in the cork-mat it so it becomes a ring and put it over your "cutting board thing"? :)
Yes looks good
Sick flortom
I just got a snare drum for my grandson to use at my house for his Bible lesson/ gospel quartet songs hymn sing. Im going to put a towel on the face so it mutes the sound nicely and makes it pleasant to listen to; now i dont need earplugs!!
I simply like a beachtowel over the floor tom. Ayyyyy...dont know about the snare....the snare wires make it sound about the same to me on my phone.
The cork would work really good on the snare if you cut a 2"wide ring of cork and secure it to the batter head. in other words. take the circle of cork you cut and dead center of it cut out a fat circle leaving a nice 2" wide ring and using it.......good luck..
that sounds great i think
Teach us that thing you did with the toms at the end of the video please
Could you please write out the pattern you played at 3:48 .
Not bad.sounds like hogans heroes the opening credits
What's the thing you start doing at 4:09?
Mattie Jones I think it’s shedding
Why u use Reno Evans 360
hi man, the music of this episode, who is it?? great great channel
+Martin Co a beat I made. I dont have it posted anywhere, but I have this video ua-cam.com/video/16lFcd1NRLo/v-deo.html
Yes
It’s going to work trust me
what's the pattern you are playing at 3:52?
Paul Allen guns n roses you could be mine
If I want a fat snare sound, I first detune the top head a quarter turn, then put a head upside down. Love the way it sounds. But, wonder if you made an o-ring with the cork how that would sound.
+Matthew Parsons That's a good idea.
+Matthew Parsons I like that idea, ill be sure to do that!
rdavidr Let me know how it goes, I have 3 goodwills around me that I'm sure I could find a cork mat to cut up.
i use a yoga mat to mute all of my toms and snare and it works quite well.. you should try
hedson ojeda I use that too! works a charm
You can make a practice pad out of cork material like that.
Heey .. It seems that when you put the cork .. it tunes low . try tuning up then use it again .. try using old heads to be sure when broke xD
You would be good as a tenor player
What type on Snare drum are you using
+Aaron Rochford Yamaha Musashi ua-cam.com/video/FhMEEJOglXs/v-deo.html
The beat he plays at 2:34 sounds like a great beat for Africa but Toto
can you make a practice pad
The mat was the best for sure. Kills the sound and tone too much. That was my guess. Cool ideas though...
It will work that's my opinion.
Paper. The ultimate poor man's BFSD. Try it out, I like it better than the BFSD because you can add and remove paper to change the phatness to your liking
yeah I have a super old video on that
Why not cut out another circle in the middle?
Works on the tom, not the snare. The BFSD sounds more like the cutting pad than the cork mute.
I agree with blank gamer
Not feeling your solution but your space and drumming are fannytastic.
Pretty dead not much response, and I think that cork will start falling apart after awhile! I really believe in internal muffler control, but I am experimenting now with new set of Pearls with no mufflers! Tried some neoprene pipe insulation yesterday, rolled up socks, even made paper circle cutouts, but still looks bad and not very professional ..! Like your ideas tho!
Yes?
Ur snare lottery sound better without the cork thing btw
yes
cutting mat sounds a little cleaner to me?
Not much muffling but I like the different sound
It didn’t really dampen the sound it augmented it.
Try using your wallet or a small pocket notebook to make your snare sound phat without loosing too much tone. Worked for me.
The cork plate mat is just too thick
I use Aunt Yo’mama Pancakes!!! Hahaha.
Doesn’t sound like it reduced much volume
yo try an old slip mat frm a turntable ,rubber or felt yer man.
Step 1 in noise reduction lower the snare wire However there's no difference between this and a Tshirt 170.00 cnd for Sound off 111 cnd for Vic firth cheap ass value village tshirts 10 bucks covers the entire kit cymbals have minimal sound and theres low resonance on the toms
I think if the cork was half the thickness it would be much better
it would be great for muting if you were doing an indoor sesh and people were telling you to be quiet
Paused, I think it's gonna mute the drum xD
Dude, make the St Anger snare
pls note that beat from 3:50
I use mouse pads cut to whatever size and sound I want.
Oh yeah, whoever said it sounded good on the floor tom was RIGHT.
i have a set of drum mutes that are -- as far as i can tell -- made of something thats pretty much the exact thing a mouse pad is made of. (foam rubber with a layer of smooth cloth on top)
rdavidr how about a shirt?
Sounds like a 8 bit snare
you van also cut a yogamat
it sounds like an electronic snare
Its not like I don't like this video but I felt I needed to be that guy that was the only dislike. Fuck me in the ass.
Leroy well that's weird
should maybe cut an inner hole that'll probably werk better. i dunno..
Werk?
If anything it sounds B R I G H T E R?!
maybe.
I don't understand why you guys even consider having "phat snare" :(
I think it sounds great.....lol, a bit late
