      cut a hole in in the drum mute, so you get the feel of the head and it might help the sound.

      I honestly thought it sounded pretty good. It sounds like a synthesized snare, is it too quiet to actually play live though?

    In all honesty I love the way the cork sounds on the snare & fl tom. Like having a high-end roll-off or something. Sounds lo-fi. Some may not like this sound, but I dig it! Fat & Punchy.👍🏼

    I enjoy all your videos. The cork makes the drum speak just a bit late, which affects the groove slightly, whereas the cutting mat sounds better, IMO, and the drum speaks quicker, allowing for a better groove.

    I love the cork on the floor tom sound . How long does the cork last in terms of durability? It seems like the sticks might start chipping it
    apart at some point.

    Tama has recently started selling some kind of 6mm thick foam rings (called Soft Sound Rings) that they claim reduce the volume of the drums while retaining their tone. I'm skeptical about the volume reduction, but either way I bet the design would work well with the cork. Maybe an idea for a new video?

  • @j_vo
    @j_vo 7 років тому

    you should cut the cork thing into strips and add them to the drum to see how much you need for a good sound. or cut circles out of the middle until you cut out enough for a good sound.

  • @dissonance7269

    Try using it on the bottom head of the snare. Without the vibrations of the spring it would sound low and fat. Worth a try.

    Hey, rdavidr!
    I live in an apartment and I would love to play drums. I have an idea and I would like to ask if you would make a video of it, please:
    Will you put pillows, blankets and etc. inside the shell pack in order to quiet the drums? The cymbals could have light towels on top to quiet them. The goal is to diminish the volume dramatically, yet maintain the individual sounds of the drum pieces.
    Thanks in advance. Cheers!

    The cork would work really good on the snare if you cut a 2"wide ring of cork and secure it to the batter head. in other words. take the circle of cork you cut and dead center of it cut out a fat circle leaving a nice 2" wide ring and using it.......good luck..

    If I want a fat snare sound, I first detune the top head a quarter turn, then put a head upside down. Love the way it sounds. But, wonder if you made an o-ring with the cork how that would sound.

    Pretty dead not much response, and I think that cork will start falling apart after awhile! I really believe in internal muffler control, but I am experimenting now with new set of Pearls with no mufflers! Tried some neoprene pipe insulation yesterday, rolled up socks, even made paper circle cutouts, but still looks bad and not very professional ..! Like your ideas tho!
