The best tutorial I've seen for the Olympus Wall so far. I used to go through it, but after they changed the surface I've been struggling to keep my grip and haven't been able to finish. Can't wait to try it again. Thank you!
I was mad about the surface change. Why make an obstacle that 95% cannot do, including you and I who could do it before. Now all the asswipe Spartan are going to say overcome and adapt without recognition of my earlier comment so stuff your comments. The slippery surface is so slick there is almost no possibility of keeping your feet on the surface.
@@obstacleactivist9741 YES!! And they had to put the Olympus Wall right after a long walk in wet mud, of course! OCR is all about technique and adaptation. If I had to chose between strength or technique, I would pick technique all day long.
That new plastic surface sucks! My Altra King MT's could not get a grip on that thing. I'm sure I just need to adjust my stance though. Thanks for the tutorial.
Thank you great video! I just did the San Diego Spartan last weekend and had not done this obstacle before and just used all upper body with legs hanging and that was rough… 😂. Your technique is flawless and will definitely help!
I did it on my knees on my first OCR. It gave me better traction but I wouldn’t do it without knee sleeves. My knees ended up getting skinned up and infected.
Going to Palmerton in a few days to run through my third Super. It looks exciting. Getting my big hands in those little holes is very challenging, so we'll see. I have been doing well at almost all of the obstacles, though.
@@derekdalton8166 just be sure it's the exact same as a race version. ive been to many gyms who have one, but they are layed out slightly differently which makes all the difference if using this technique
Thanks! Work on grip strength specific training (I'm currently making a video on how I train my grip) but I would also look at my friend Megan here on UA-cam as well who makes OCR training videos. Her channel name is the OCR trainer. Here is a link to her Olympus training video ua-cam.com/video/is6Wnwk0MbY/v-deo.html
apologies that i missed this! leading right, the holes are actually mirrored differently on the boards causing an inconsistent mis-match of the holds at different heights making it harder to do the crossover technique compared to leading with the left
That plastic surface they're using now is bullshit! I did burpees afterwards and I didn't see a single person complete the obstacle in 5ish minutes. Wtf Spartan, why make a near impossible obstacle, it ruins the fun for everybody and stops people from coming back! Just use wood, cheaper and actually doable.
@@obstacleactivist9741 Is that during your shift? You just made a rant about how spartan marshals suck, but you seem pretty proud to make self-promotional content wearing that shirt.
I course marshaled for that exact reason...I wanted to see the entire process of how everything is handled for elite and age group. I can also say for a fact that more than half of the marshals themselves were terrible seeing that none of them had ever run elite and/or did not even know how to properly complete the obstacles. This is the problem, officials that are just in it to get the volunteer code and have a shorter shift
@@obstacleactivist9741 There are plenty of good marshals who are not elite athletes, understand the rules, care a great deal about the integrity of the competitive waves, and do an overall fantastic job. While you may run in the competitive waves, that does not mean you understand actual officiating. Many of your statements are simply opinions dressed up as facts. Read - fake news. But we all know stirring the pot gets views and likes and clicks.
I'm not saying there aren't good marshals, there certainly are. There are most definitely poor marshals though too, many of which whom do not care enough to do the job property or correctly. Marshals themselves aside, the officiating process as a whole can be much improved, that much is fact given the officiating woes that has lingered in many key races this year when it's still early this season. The officiating in the elite and age group waves has been a very hot topic this season, I'm simply bringing more of it to the forefront for discussion. I'm sorry if you see this as negative, but it's something that needs to be discussed if the sport wants to grow and progress in the right direction
Obstacle Activist yeah no problem. Just being a smartass. . It was a good video and still helps. It’s just I never get to actually try one dry like that. Always muddy as hell.

@@allanfarr I hear you. I failed the wall again today in Jacksonville. But this will not defeat me, I will intensify my training.
Jax is such a wet course too which doesn't help

Why did I not watch this 5 races ago lol I always hit the right side and have the same thought “man this is awkward”. Thanks man
Hope it helps! They did change the material and steepness of it, but this still rings true for the most part
Tried this technique today at the Boston super. worked perfect and probably half the time than it used to take. thanks!!
Glad it worked for you today!

Same. I had to go on my knees at Palmerton for it. Also a steeper angle now
Used this technique at Killington ‘23, worked like a charm! Thank you!
Brother, watched the Friday and because of that crossover and starting with left , I nailed Olympus at Palmerton yesterday!! Thanks! Aroo!!
Hell yeah! That's awesome man, glad you got it. Especially since they made Olympus harder since I've made this tutorial
This is a great approach! Never even clouded into the right and left side till he had showed it.
His execution on the last part was a thing of beauty
did exactly what you showed........ no struggling, and finished clean! thanks!!!

Thanks Derek. Very helpful and very professionally done.
Thank you!
I am preparing for Beast in next month. Thank you for many advices.Really helpful
Gonna try this out this weekend in Big Bear
"like you're poopin'" Loved it.
Haha had to do it
Thanks man, really helpful info!
Nice tips, not did this obstacle yet so hoping i can get a plan in place before the super.
Go to the open house if one if available the day before the race! Best time to practice it

Very helpful!!! Thanks! Keep up the great videos! Just watched the Stadium Sprint races!
Thank you!
good vid, keep 'em coming!
Thank you!
I'll give it a try because this looks quicker, but I usually use all the holds.
Try it during an open house or after a race and see how you like it
@@obstacleactivist9741 My team gym has an Olympus wall so, I'll get to try it out on Saturday.

Hole holds 😂👍 great techniques from both of you!! Gonna try leading with left, makes sense. Sometimes I exert more energy than necessary on this one
I never realized it until someone showed me at palmerton two years ago
I'll definitely try this next time. I've always used the chains.
Give it a go and let me know how it works for you!
I prefer the chains
Great tutorial! What’s the best way to train for this obstacle if we don’t have access to an Olympus wall

Did I see you at Frontline?!
I needed this yrs ago😲😲😲😲😲

I think the plastic lasts a lot longer, plus wood prices are through the roof since the pandemic started.
Did they just give you that shirt or are you volunteering?
This is the shirt you wear when you course Marshal

This was at the tri-state beast/ultra last year in 2019 at mountain Creek
I'm so confused...isn't he on the right?
I thought the same he just meant leading with his left. Technically he was on the right side. Very confusing
I'm left handed brah
I watched this video whilst pooping.
😂😂😂 going to crush Olympus then
Sorry but not going to work on the new highly slippery plastic walls
This was made back in April at the start of the season long before they changed the material. I will make an updated one for next season
Yeah let’s get some mud on that wall and do it for real
Well this was at a race that was ongoing so 🤷♂️
