- Honda's original NSX is one of the most respected analog enthusiast cars of all time. However, many fans don't realize that it was nearly replaced with a front-engine V10 supercar. This is the story of the Acura ASCC concept car, and the motorsports success of the Honda HSV-010. What happened to the front-engine NSX? Why has Honda never produced their V10 for the road? And how has one of the greatest cars of all time been nearly forgotten?

Im more upset the hsv with the v10 wasnt what we got. I like the hsv way more than the new nsx

I’m had a 92. Best handling car but not fast by any modern measure.
I will take a 92 NSX and be very happy, but imagine telling one of the original owners that in 20 years time we will have 4500lb sedans that get 0-60 in less than half the time of the NSX.
It handled so well you almost didn't notice the lack of power, it made other sports cars handling feel dumb, pure driving bliss. One day I'd love to find a clean body to stuff a more potent engine in 😫
I remember following all this back in middle school being so stoked for a v10 Acura/ Honda. All the way up until it was canceled and then the new one that we currently have was proposed and the super bowl commercial w Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld

It looks like a cross between three different cars.
The front reminds me of the Mazda Furai concept car.
The back reminds me of the Saturn Sky production car.
The mid section reminds me of the BMW Gina concept car .

This looks closer to an s2000 than an nsx layout wise but styling wise does look like an nsx
We also lost the RWD-platform Acura RL with a V8 engine.
Honda would have become the NEW Godzilla! I didn't know about this. So cool! I love Honda. My #1 car company (&Acura) Honda needs to make a V8, though. I've always dreamed of how amazing a Honda V8 would sound and Rev. It would beat out any American muscle V8. That's saying a lot, too, since there are some amazing American V8s.
I remember that concept. I didn't like it for the NSX badge. I'm sure it could've been awesome, but like a Mustang "suv", Front Engine NSX doesnt make sense to me.. One reason why I like Corvette more than this? Cargo room! Love sports cars, but if it only works for cars and coffee shows, it doesn't make sense.

Loic Duval was right. I would have done unspeakable things to afford buying a Honda HSV. You know the usual "Road man" type of things. Lemonade stands, all men bikini car washes, dog walking... Hell I might have even run for city government.
Funny how the GTR still is a highly sought after and a massive success and the NSX remains a meh, barely worthy a bedroom wall poster.
I get a feeling the war-hype-typing "killer" slogan is getting old faster than the NSX was forgotten.
This is better looking than the girly-looking NSX 2.0….Japanese Will never make the sale if they don't go all the way in with any sports cars….it proves to them time after time…they didn't give the car the crazy exotic looks but demanded the price…
please dont call it "acura"
the japanese made the acura brand only for americans so it was called that only in one of 200 countries in the world.
Commercial failure? It was never available for sale, how can you make that claim?
