Allied Assault still looks sharp to me. I remember back in the day thinking them showing your bullet cartridges on the right side of the screen was SO cool lol...I never knew they flirted with making it rated M. I would have loved to see what a gory MoH could have been. It may sound sadistic, but gore in FPS games has always kicked things up a notch for me. It makes the shooting more visceral and if authenticity was their aim, I feel like showing gore in a ww2 game is the way to go. Look at Cod WaW. That game just nails the feel

I am with you! The bloodier the better! But for bloodless shooters all the weight is on the sound effects and enemy animations and many of the early Medal of Honor games excelled at it!

D day assault has never been matched since this game. As you said, even Call of duty WW2 has a cutscene between the craft landing and the actual free gameplay. This medal of honor is the only game that lets you in control of the landing. Thanks for the review Joe!

The MoH games stood out for their great musical scores and sounddesign. Especially the first one had that Hollywood production value feeling because of that,nd allied assault as well.

Great video man! The MOH series was fantastic for a long time. I think the original game might have been my first ps1 game and part of why I fell in love with that system. Then the series really hit its stride on the PS2 imo. Frontline and Rising Sun were excellent.

also I want to defend that first mission with Jack Grillo, I thought it was incredibly awesome to sneak around North Africa and try and get across the map without being seen. The adverse is that if you are caught, you will be descended upon with MG42 fire. There's several very well-designed little areas where the player wouldn't normally interact with the enemy directly, such as a room full of soldiers playing cards, or standing outside of buildings patroling their territory, you really have to think about what you're doing even if it's not super hard and the game's general linearity means that there is one true path to follow regardless. It's still engaging enough. I love the general worldbuilding and design of Allied Assault. The same character mission from the start takes you from Operation Torch in Algeria, all the way to German-occupied Norway, sabotaging a military fuel depot beforehand, jumping into a jeep, destroying a bunch of airplanes on an incredible on-rails driving mission, and finally entering a radar installation on the Mediterranean coast near a LIGHTHOUSE to signal reinforcements that may help turn the tide against Rommel and the Afrika Corps. You then get into a ruck, escape, and in Norway steal plans to the U-259. You then go undercover (the best mission in any game ever imho) as a German soldier of the Wermacht in order to get onto the German U-boat and destroy it. I think I still remember this entire game front to back in extreme detail and I haven't played it in 15 years. Truly a testament to how great this game actually is. I really want to play it again... But it was for sure the first shooter game I ever played in 2002 and sits super well with me. If it had some updated appointments and visceral content from an engine like Unreal or Source (doubtful but just saying), I bet a remastered edition would sell extremely well, and they might even be able to add much more to the experience of the platform historic action shooter, with technology that has levelled games up in the last 20 years since its release.

Allied Assault was my first Medal of Honor game, introduced to me by my cousin when we were still in middle school. What an experience it was to play through the levels that had so much atmosphere and depth, and that soundtrack... perfection.
Even when I was a kid I noticed that the developers of this game were the same ones who worked on the original Call of Duty, and their talent shows in both games. I still haven't played the expansions but what I would give for a complete remastered collection of this game as well as all the other games in the Medal of Honor series. Great review and thanks for bringing me back to those good old times!

This game is up there with one of the most immersive games I have ever played in my life, even to this day. Watching saving private ryan in 1998 and then getting this game in 2002 was a no brainer. The film made you feel like you were in ww2, while this game you played in it and felt incredibly realistic and way ahead of its time for 2002

Like many others here, I got MOHAA when it was first released, in the form of a Christmas gift from one of my uncles; I was around 14 at the time. My only FPS experience before that was Goldeneye 007. I was genuinely blown away by this game, never before had I played a game that sucked me in and engaged me so quickly and deeply. To add onto what you said about how the guns sound, the musical score of MOHAA was incredible and really added to the overall feel and atmosphere of the game. I do remember hating the rainy section with all of the snipers, it took me forEVER to get through that lol this will always be one of my favorite FPS and WWII games...I enjoyed COD 1 as well, but somehow it just didn't hit me the same way.

This game is the reason why I developed an interest in history and storytelling in general. I literally have a career thanks in part to this masterpiece. One thing that I believe you didn't wish to miss but kinda did was the soundtrack and the UI, it is phenomenal. It still makes me cry to this day, hearing the opening theme as it reminds me of the people who died fighting in this war (my great-grandfather fought in the battle of Singapore) the sound design is absolutely fantastic as every step you take feels heavy, it sounds like you're geared up to the teeth with sounds of your bandoleer, grenades, and boots mixing together as you walk/run.
The screen shake is actually bad, coupled with The Last Tiger and Sinper's Last Stand's frustrating enemy placement, however, despite these complaints, one cannot deny the fact that the game oozes with atmosphere, it actually captures certain moments from Saving Private Ryan itself, be it the Normandy landings, the destroyed rain-soaked French village in Sniper's Last Stand, or the damaged radio tower in the country-side flanked by MG-42s and anti-air guns.
It is perhaps the closest game or piece of media to my heart to this day as it has literally shaped my life. It has its problems but at the end of the day it is in my opinion, a masterpiece.

Literally every video that talks about the d day mission in this game the reviewer says how difficult or frustrating it is….it is not. You even say there is little cover….there is cover all over the beach lol. Hiding behind the hedgehogs will completely stop the bullets.
The only way this mission is frustrating is if you play it wrong and storm the beach mindlessly. When you're about to be shot the game lets you know with plenty of time to get to cover by seeing the bullets hitting the ground in front of you. Once you see that you sit behind cover until it stops. Once it does, you move to the next cover and repeat. Playing the mission like this (the way the devs intended) will allow you to make it up the beach with very minimal damage taken.
It just blows my mind how everyone thinks this mission is hard. It is not hard, you’re all just playing it incorrectly.

Playing the game on "easy" difficulty you might not notice how bad the game actually is. Enemies have perfect accuracy even when moving, shoot you through trees when you can't see them, bad level design (sniper town) when the only way to progress is to save scum. I honestly prefer original Medal of Honor games on PlayStation 1 to this crap.
