I came across your video whilst looking for tricks to getting the steering tube out. Mine fought every step of the way, did some damage to the underside of the dash and it totalled the rubber down in the tunnel around the bearing. But it made my day you saying how horrible of a job it was and the fact your super is a flatscreen in white- same as mine! Thanks for the tip off on the top line bushing as a replacement.
The one in the video is this one: toplineparts.com/lower-steering-bushing-71-74.html However, last year I found this: www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/113415511.htm?pn=OEM-113415511 which is for a Porsche. It's the same part number and part that fits the Volkswagen Super Beetle 1971. I got another steering column and use the porsche part now in my VW. The site seems not to have that part anymore, but on the page it says to use another part instead. No picture though.
Nice work, I have a 1972 SBeetle in the shop right now getting the ujoint steering shaft replaced. It was very helpful to see the upper shaft removed and dissembled. Check my channel for a step by step R&R on the steering ujoint shaft. Stay gold.

Please tell me you read the rest of the description of this video...! I found a substitute part that fits and works better than the bushing.
@@Scorpwanna Im in the UK, but I will keep the part no. in mind. Although the needle bearing would be better how is the bushing anyway?
How far is the needle bearing fits inside the column tube?
where did you get the replacement for the needle bearing?
