    Man, well organized. Tools needed and everything, I would like to see more videos like this.

      I thought I would try something different. You never see anyone list tools and parts needed. This could be my new niche. Hopefully better once I can start editing again. Thanks for the comment

    Volkswagenplanet, I just wanted to let you know that you went the extra mile to help the fellow out. The link you have shared with on your last response really help me out on my next move to rectify the issue. So the only way for me to get column tube back in the right spot is by removing the fuel tank and pull the shaft out from inside the car. I have done some damage to the needle bearing while using my frustrations to get the shaft out / trying to align the column tube in position back in place. I will work on it this weekend. Thank you.

    I have those tools some where in my garage, I need to organize it first..good video enjoyed the detail thats for sharing with us. I think that 7/8 wrench was in the Holloween mood just always wanted to be 7/8 verse 22mm. It does take a lot of prep time to share these how to video's but for me it is worth it if it helps someone.

      22 is the correct size, but 7/8 fit better on all three cars I tried. Thanks for commenting.

    It is best to use silicone grease. Oil degrades rubber.

      Great question. I don't think you can get it anywhere. I've never seen one listed. Sorry for the answer. Thank you for watching. Take care, stay safe.

    Thanks for the video. I have a 74 super beetle. I was trying to work on replacing the ignition switch and the only way to have access to the switch is by removing switch assembly housing from the steering column shaft. While in the process of doing that, the steering column shaft came too far out. When I tried to put it back in, the steering column shaft doesn't go all the way down for me to mount back the two screws. I tried everything I can to push it down as far as I can, but it seems to get block by the inner ring or can't get it to align with the sleeve on the shaft and the whole inside the steering column. Do you know a way to correct this issue?

      74 super is different I think. Do you have a Bently service manual? I think when the super beetle went to a curved windshield they changed the steering system. I personally have never owned one. I will look it up and get back to you. If it is exactly like my video I put the rubber boots in wrong the first time and had to go back and change it. Had the same thing your saying it was off when I tried to mount it back up under the dash. I took it apart walked away and was messing with another vw of mine and forgot what it looked like when I took it out.

      I bet the rubber boots or sleeves are hanging it up. I used a little bit of axle greese on mine

    • @Volkswagenplanet
      @Volkswagenplanet  5 років тому

      Let me know if that didnt work. I will look at my books for you and get to the bottom of it.

      @@Volkswagenplanet how did you remove the shaft out of the steering column? In regards to your previous reply, the rubber boots on the shaft does not hinder the shaft sleeve from going all the way down. I think what is blocking the shaft sleeve to seat properly is the collar ring on the shaft it self. There are two of them. One at the bottom on the shaft and one at the top, which is to prevent the shaft sleeve coming off completely. At this point, I can't pull the shaft sleeve out because of the collar ring blocking. Thanks for your response

      @@vsaapw2799 are you referring the shaft to the steering box. I didn't remove that part

    7/8in wrench isn't stock! Shame on you! Its probably a 22mm! LoL! Be glad I'm the first one that called you out and not one of those "UA-cam Experts" Haha!

      I would agree but in this case the standard size fit better than the metric. I thought it was just the bolt until I took apart the other two steering columns I had. But yes it should be metric, I agree. I coundnt find what year steering column removal question on your videos from your subscribers. I can do a non super beetle. Has to be 68 and up. Let me know if you can find the year. I will do a video for them
