I love this performance so much! But oh my god I can't believe BOTH straps broke?? How did she not even flinch?? And the fact that the first one broke exactly on beat is hilarious. Also, I love the braids in her hair!

My experience as a muso and a gig-goer is that sound engineers spend gigs chatting, drinking and doing anything other than paying attention to the music and the musicians.
Huh?! What she was hearing via monitors and what the audience heard were two very different things. I don't hear any 'straining'. Yes, there are parts where she pushes, which is expected in this tune. And let's not forget that she was essentially a studio-only performer at this point. She did a fine job.
Interesting that the great Mick Karn is on the same stage as Townshend (and Bush and Collins!) Mick could have easily have played bass for The Who. RIP Mick
She did, in fact, work extensively with Mick Karn in the studio. You can hear his bass on a lot of her best work. Check him out on Heads We're Dancing from The Sensual World record. Before I knew who Mick Karn was I used to think that the bass on that song must have been played on a keyboard because it sounded too difficult to pull off on an actual bass guitar.
Midge was big in the 80s, but now he is so underrated for some reason, almost forgotten... I think he should be up there with Kate and Phil, in the hall of all time greatest.
@@SKYSAW59 was never a fan of ultravox or anything else Midge Ure did. However, after I heard what he did to raise money for Mick Karn’s cancer treatment, he’s a legend. Top Man Midge!
Midge Ure has continued to do humanitarian work ever since he orchestrated Live Aid in 1985 and wrote “Do they know it’s Christmastime” in 1984 which became one the top selling songs of all time. He’s an incredibly humble and genuine person and still can belt out a great chorus.
... and I love the growl of his bass in combination with the chorus effect. A fretless Wal is one of the basses I dream of :-), but they are so awfully rare ... :-(
The first Princes Trust gig. At Dominions Theatre, London. Opened by Madness, Joan Armatrading did 2 songs to cover set up, then this backing band of Towshend, Collins, Kahn, Gary Brooker on keys, and Midge Ure on guitar did their own party pieces and also backed Percy Plant and Kate. Prince Charles (then) sat in a box in the circle and came down to give out prizes. I was chaperoning a load of Italian language students to the gig and assured them that this was just another typical night in London 😂
Merci ! Chaque fois que j'écoute cette Chanson je pense au film La Mariée était en Noir de François Truffaut.....et en plus le Merveilleux sourire de Pete au tout début 🙏🌟🙏
‘The Wedding List’ was inspired by a François Truffaut’s film called The Bride Wore Black (‘La Mariée était en noir’). It tells of a groom who is accidentally murdered on the day of his wedding by a group of five people who shoot at him from a window. The bride succeeds in tracking down each one of the five and kills them in a row, including the last one who happens to be in jail.
It also inspired the two Kill Bill movies. It took Tarantino two full length feature films to do what Kate did in about four minutes. That’s why she’s a genius.
What an Accolade by his peer`s.Mick, was held in that high regard by the Rock Establishment, and no-one from our BBC/ITV ,could be bothered to turn up,just sum`s up Brit-pop,Thank God I never subscribed to that . my reading was IT(International Times ) and OZ Mag.... Townsend was right ,and 10/10 for1/ to turn up for Mick and 2/ have a Japan style suit.
Poor Kate. At 3:52 in her first strap breaks, and the second follows in turn. Every performer's nightmare. But she soldiers on like the good trouper she is! Pete seems very interested tho'. ("What will break or fall off next?")
I’ve just re watched it and she is totally hot. It was a thrilling performance considering the dramatic song; the amazing band; the chuck-together gig quality of sound or monitoring; the wardrobe malfunction leaving her delicately exposed in front of a royal audience. But yes, totally hot.
I love this performance so much! But oh my god I can't believe BOTH straps broke?? How did she not even flinch?? And the fact that the first one broke exactly on beat is hilarious. Also, I love the braids in her hair!
Too much talent for one dress to handle!
The Bush sisters were amazing talents.
What a line up of star's
Kate Bush, Phil Collins, midge ure, Mick Karn, gary brooker
Pete Townshend 😊
ANY song Mick Karn plays on goes at least 4 levels up from where it began....
If only the genius of Mick Karn had played on the album version. RIP
I LOVE that Mick is so high in the mix!
This woman is one of the best singers of all time.
Not only! One of the best music writer of all time too!

Man, the sound levels during this performance was criminal. Kate was straining to get heard here because she is mixed down so low.

I remember this from years ago. She had rebel straps on her dress.
Apparently, they fell down because she's holding her top up at the end. The older I get, the more I appreciate her music, a great catalog.

Yup she did
yes
And she doesn't even miss a freaking note while her top disintergrates. Wow.
