In the scarlet citadel by Robert E Howard, Conan tells pelias that, "Today is the tenth day of the month Yuluk, of the year of the Gazelle,”. Does this fit in to the year framework?
Gazelle relates to horse and Yuluk is one of many Mongolian words for maiden
@@GrimDarkHalfOff ah, Excellent! Ok, it makes sense now. Thanks!
Was about to ask the same thing
I like how your lore videos are becoming more and more like a GMs resource for TTRPGs
I never would have assumed the Hyborean age would have a full more modern calendar instead of a more ancient ruler based calendar. Fascinating! Love these framework a lot. Maybe the Year of The Dragon could be a good time for a deadly, powerful conqueror to be born since Dragons are also associated with greed and conquest.
You trully getting a deep phaleontology analysis for each detail of the Hyborian Age Lore! Interesting point of View of Time for those wild and ancient folks!
Welcome back to it =) great video. *still hoping for a White Hand video or necromancy* ^^
Best Hyborian Lore channel!
A very interesting thing to me about Norse Mythology is the treatment of wolves.
On the one hand, Fenris Wolf is destined to be a big player in Ragnarok, but it's mostly due to the gods binding him because they feared his size and strength, giving him a reason to want to kill them all in a classic self-fulfilling prophecy. There are also the wolves Skoll (Treachery) and Hati (Hate), who pursue the sun and moon respectively trying to eat them, and will succeed come Ragnarok. These wolves are kick-starters of the apocalypse.
On the other hand, Odin also had two wolves, Geri (the greedy one) and Freki (the ravenous one), who he gave all his food to (Odin didn't need to eat), and wolves are seen as symbols of Odin's favor and guidance, like ravens (Odin also had two ravens, Hugin (thought) and Munin (memory), who did his bidding).
So wolves in Norse Mythology are either strongly positive or strongly negative, with little, if any, middle ground. Just something I find really interesting.
This is one of the videos I have been waiting for and it could not be better! Thank you for giving me something I can wake up to while I get my online training done
My pleasure Sammy! Have a wonderful day
@@GrimDarkHalfOff you have a wonderful day yourself!
Take it easy man, I'm still watching your previous videos (you deserve better, I never thought Conan's universe were this big).
The story telling always gets me Immersed in the video
I discovered your content a few weeks ago and have been binge watching ever since. I've always been a big fan of Conan and I'm glad I'm able to learn more about the lore. You inspired me to pick up the Conan TTRPG and now I'm going to run a campaign for my DND group. Keep up the great work my dude.
This is one of my favorite vids in all of UA-cam
What a nice treat for the commute
that means a lot
@@GrimDarkHalfOff I have another two hours left, which video should I hit up next?
The gods series is long if you have the time
@@GrimDarkHalfOff it was great, I got in Acheron too
@@thesagepilgrim4441 good to hear
I can't escape the year of the horse, not in this world or in Hyborea. But mild joking aside this is an excellent video as always and congratulations on 15,000 subscribers.
One question I have for Cycles, is it like the wheel of time where things pretty much repeat themselves or are there variations?
Months vary but years repeat
Wooo! Just in time for the work day!!
Thanks for the content, boss.
Fun fact about wolves & dogs: modern domestic dogs are not actually descended from wolves, but rather domesticated wild dogs. The two are their own separate canid lineages, more akin to cousins
Love the video. Love the Doc Mitchell cameo at the beginning.
Fantastic UA-camr. Always look forward to more with excitement!
Great work! Love Conan!
Love this, can't wait fir the vampire video.
I love all of your videos you have the perfect voice
Thank you
I guess time move differently in Conan but interesting to learn about think for making this video
I would love to see a Farmer's almanac around this time
Very cool video my guy! Tho I gotta ask you, what is in your oppinion the best conan comic to start with?
oh that's easy my personal favorite is the graphic novel version of the tower of the elephant as well as Dark Horse's book of Thoth Amon
Great video, a shame it took me so long to find the time to continue watching your content!
Don’t worry you have it on video!
You need to make more videos, your voice was created to narrate.
Thank you I’m very busy with college right now, but have around 4-5 scripts in the works, most of which are Conan
this gave me a great idea to make my players create a characters by rolling their birth date, and attributing to the character the month's characteristics and the year to an important event in their past. 🙏, hope I'm not being rude by asking but, will there be a lore video on Toth Amon?
If Conan had an Elder Scrolls like game creating a class through this would be awesome
Sweet!
The ancient races from Pre-thurian age and Thurian the Pre-cataclysm age Lore?
The first character I want to cover is Kull yes
@@GrimDarkHalfOff Yay!! 🤩👍👏😍
So some of the oldest calendars I originally heard of were broken into 13-month cycles of roughly 25 days however after further research it seems that the ancient Egyptians some 5,000 years ago had a calendar of roughly 12 months of 30 days with five extra days I'm not sure how that works but here's a video kind of explaining more on it
ua-cam.com/video/VrvTc9q_EXY/v-deo.html
I cannot escape the Scorpion, I'm a Scorpio. Which is the exact same thing in Hyborian Age. I most likely would be a Sorcerer
At what point in ur life did you become discounted? Or is it that ur product (grim dark) is?
I sell grim dark and grim dark accessories. All prices are slashed in half just like unlucky teenagers at a summer camp! At Grimbuster Video we take in old used grim dark and give the savings back to you!!!
@@GrimDarkHalfOff Excellent business model. We appreciate your work *huggles.
VERY interested in the Conan vampire lore btw. God damn do we ever need more Conan media in the 2020s. I'd love to see the "progressives" try to wokify this stuff lol.
Where did you get that map at 2:02? I've been working on a comprehensive map of the Hyborian Age and would love to see that one in higher res. I thought I had encountered all the maps but admittedly I don't have every single piece of media for the age physically.
Saw this comment 30minutes ago and have been searching my computer for the image to reverse search it. Sadly I can’t find it, my apologies.
So fucking awesome, I'm about to start my rpg camping and this is so helpful. Does anyone happen to know we're to find more info about seasons regarding climate?
Very little else is known to me, but let me know if you find something!
@@GrimDarkHalfOff Well I spoke to a geologist friend, and based on what he told me the climate should be more or less the same, the fact that the north is frozen means it is an ice age. Haven't found any reference in books yet as to how they split the seasons or if they named them.
So for my campaign I might assign animal names to distinguish climate periods.
Edit: misspelling
Wait...how do birthdays work if one is born in the month of the Dragon? 🤔
Grim Dark have you heard of the YT channel Crecganford?
No what’s that?
@@GrimDarkHalfOff Mostly an Academic explaining and telling the reconstructed myths and stories of Indo-European cultures and others.
Or in other words examining the origins of myth and retelling the oldest stories of our ancestors.
Such as the story of the first warrior/hero that was tasked to retrieve cattle stolen by a serpent/dragon.
1:55 hey man, do you know where I can find this map?
Idk who made it, but I have a copy of it saved under the pinned messages on the discord in the channel #Conan-Universe
@@GrimDarkHalfOff thanks you a lot for answering, I will make sure to come into the server and check it out, thanks
So 8 years is 1 year ?
There's a cool talking spider in "The Tarnsmen of Gor" which is kind of a ripoff of Conan and John Carter. (I disavow the Girean fan base)
[Joke] This calendar makes me support Ghoul supremacy, because Robert E. Howard’s world has a time keeping system which gives me intense migraines. The Hyborian Age scholars were clearly not aware that PEOPLE HAD TO READ THEIR WORK!
[Insert year here] and now it looks like so much has happened in one obnoxiously eventful year. I now pursue insanity in the Dreamlands, because sweet \!{¥{£ does Hyboria deserve to have its population pay for their choices.
