This man must have been one of the most beautiful people that ever lived. His intelligence, good taste, humble and shy nature, his pure soul, a genius in music, so much talent, a true artist, the velvet sound of his voice. Not to mention his looks. I don't think he even realized how handsome and attractive he was. The most beautiful eyes and smile I have ever seen in my life. Not to mention his cute ears.... I loved him. What a good man he was....
Wonderful words. I feel exactly the same for him. I loved it as soon as I saw and heard it the first time, in ... 1984. He never left me, neither his music nor his voice. I always cry when I think of him, since he left us. Irreplaceable and unforgettable Mark 😥💔❤
@@agneschardin9768 Thank you. He sure is irreplaceable. Sometimes I find it too hard to listen to his music, because it makes his passing much more painful. Lots of love to you.
Mark sounds like a PhD graduate. What a loss to the industry, although he has made a name for himself long time ago! The band as a whole is just up there with the best. He is indeed a musical genius who did the right thing at the right time. Hail Mark Hollis.
It's hard to wrap my mind around someone who is so technical and versed in the philosophy of music to have so much soul and in motion in their music. When I hear particular talk talk songs, it raises Goosebumps all over my arms. Absolutely incredible vocal and Arrangements
What a beautiful, mysterious dude. Absolutely brilliant human being. Laughing Stock is an ineffable work of pure, painstaking art. A timeless masterpiece.
Mark Hollis is so earnest and thoughtful in this interview. It's all one needs to recognize what a special individual he was. And then there's the music.
What he said about silence is one of the deepest and wisest quotes I have ever heard from anyone. I like silence too. And feel the same way about it, but Mark just elloquently said it on point. You will be missed brother. RIP.
His music has been something I've enjoyed listening to for such a long time. I'm so grateful to see videos like this. He remained so down to earth, just a likeable guy. Unspoiled by working in an industry where there are so many egotistical artists. A loveable, talented, sweet man.......
To my mind, almost the very definition of a true artist. I guess we'll never get to hear where he'd have gone next now folks; if anywhere. As he said himself: Before you play two notes, learn how to play one note. It's a simple as that really.....; and don't play one note unless you've got a reason". He didn't stop so much as disappear. And the rest, then, is silence. RiP.
There are such geniuses in the world from time to time, practically all of them die far too young. Also in Russia there was a similar genius from another world, also died very young... Viktor Tsoi/ KINO
And EMI thought they'd got themselves another Duran Duran! This guy was on a different level, he took his music to a place that no other band dared to go!
Como um músico tão talentoso como Mark Hollis simplismente quis cair no esquecimento ,sumir ...acho muito estranho isso ...um homem que ama a música ,respira música ,não consegueria ficar longe dela ...dava para sentir o quanto ele amava sua arte...
Mark adored, what a cursed and terrible date ..... A year already ... It's strange to say that despite your voluntary absence, it was good to say that you were still there, somewhere ... And then, it there was this horrible February 25… I could never forget this tear in my heart…. So dear Mark, impossible for me not to think of you today. Your music and sublime voice have been with me every day for so long. I love you for eternity ... Irreplaceable, incomparable, unforgettable…. The BIGGEST, in my heart and in my head, forever, IT'S YOU ...
Last of the true Artists. He never sold out. Whenever business gets involved with Art it is destroyed and replaced by mediocrity. When you listen to Colours of Spring it’s like you’re actually inside his head. How rare it is to find artists who can do that. Any suggestions most welcome. However sad was his leaving the industry, and today leaving this earthly plain, he put his family first. Respect. We need more Mark Hollis’ to rescue us from the slime churned out today.
This is mark talking to Danish tv in 1998. This is a reupload and a poor one at that. what a shame he didnt fel the need to release another record. What he left us though was enough. i think he knew that.
I like hearing his philosophy of recording and music. He’s right about making a demo. Frequently the initial demo is the best take and you can spend hours trying to recreate the energy or magic of the first recording of a song. He’s Right on! That has happened to me quite frequently where I could not get the sound or energy as good as the first recording and it was futile to even try. Good observations!
The biggest of all. An innovator, a precursor, so much unfairly underestimated (for me). I love it since its beginnings, I followed it and listened in all its musical directions ... since 1984... Its so inspiring music, so moving and its so heartbreaking voice, made me go through several decades of painful an happy trials too. Worshiped and wonderful Mark, you are in my heart and in my soul ... forever ... I love you and thank you for everything you brought in my life, and that of many others. 💔💔❤❤
It's from a danish music show called Okay Tone (1997 - 1998 Danmarks Radio). It aired in a quite diffrent version, than this butchered thing. Somewhere there's a tape of the whole raw interview. About 60 minutes total.
A legend in my lifetime... a band that defined the magical 80’s and the new romantic era....... the best of British...my foolish friend, you changed our life...

The first 16 seconds of this video was my idea of an aural hell.

yeah, know your audience lol
I believe you mean the intro music from Loop TV?
@@DOBERSTAFFIE Yeah I think that was it. The intro almost made me deaf.
No doubt Hollis would agree! He speaks of music as only a musical genius could.

I agree. I feel tha same
So well put. Thanks.
Mark was everything a musician should be.
The intro music on this video is everything that Talk Talk wanted to get away from, and entirely at odds with what Mark Hollis has to say
Mark sounds like a PhD graduate. What a loss to the industry, although he has made a name for himself long time ago! The band as a whole is just up there with the best. He is indeed a musical genius who did the right thing at the right time. Hail Mark Hollis.
Can't believe he's gone, another musical hero of mine sadly passed, Thanks Mark for the music, my teenage years were better because of you 💔
Hearing about his death floored me.
Mark Hollis has always intrigued me like no other music artist. And his death is really depressing to me.
well, mines were too. I'm grateful, his music is priceless,
His sincerity in his love of music is almost tangible. The man's soft spoken gentleness and tenderness is cloudlike.
i Palaver Not almost tangible, extremely tangible, rarely hear anyone talking so passionately about pure music,
Probably the most interesting, intrigueing songwriter from the 80's,, any any era really,, total genius
Anyone is hearing this man!? HE'S FROM ANOTHER WORLD! He'll never die.
The inital 15 secs of Intro music is way too loud and intrusive what the hell was the producer thinking about?
How come you believe that thought was involved? :-)
Fucking genius absolutely . Loved all your work as it unfolded. Thanks for the narrative. RIP Mate !

Thanks for posting the video !
Andy Moritz Yes, a pure genius, if he was writing a book, I probably would be one of the first people to buy it, he is so inspiring in many fields!
Yup, a beautiful and talented man and a serious loss . Just heart hurts.
You can tell his mind is working faster than he can talk.
Agree completely
Mark Hollis is so earnest and thoughtful in this interview. It's all one needs to recognize what a special individual he was. And then there's the music.
He was truly one of a kind....so sad he is gone
So complex and beautiful.
What he said about silence is one of the deepest and wisest quotes I have ever heard from anyone.
I like silence too. And feel the same way about it, but Mark just elloquently said it on point.

Is there an unedited version of this video anywhere?
Yes, do a search again now. I think in the last year someone has uploaded the whole thing
So much musical wisdom in this one interview. How precious to have this video. Thank you, Mark.
