Hey Chaps! Reckon you'd buy a Mini (or too small?)
You did EXACTLY what no other reviewer has done......
You showed it fits in my pocket! You literally sold it to me right there!
Thank you!
@@oviandre Mini all the way
I got no money, still a school student. If I did, I still wouldn't get it, too small
if I didn’t recently bought the m1 pro 11.. would have gotten this instead
I already ordered it .
As a person who has the iPhone mini, the iPad mini is a great companion -- it really depends on how you approach your devices. My iPhone is there for me during the day, for texts, doing quick things, being productive, and the iPad is for my games, content watching, etc.
Is it ok for reading ebooks? I mean reading like 4 hrs a day.
@@iconstone7426 I would prefer the kindle reader, but the iPad is great for reading as well. Depending on how sensitive you are to contrast and brightness. I personally lower the brightness a bit, and in the kindle app you can reduce the white point without lowering the brightness. This turns the white into a sort of grey.
@ Jordi T
Divinity 2, Xcom 2, My Time At Portia, The Last Remnant, grid Autosport, Life Is Strange and Civilization 6 are all great
Also there’s a rumor that Alien Isolation will be ported to iPad by Feral Interactive this fall October-December
Same.
@@iconstone7426 Yes, it's my primary use for my last mini, and will be for this (once it arrives).
The mini: the best iPad ever. For science at the lab, at the field , teaching, reading books, scientific papers, journaling, map during mountain excursions… all of this and I’m still using 5th gen… can’t imagine the 6th… i can’t afford it now but I totally would.
I buy a new mini every 4 years or so, getting this day one. Mini is my favorite type of ipad by far. Perfect for almost all media. I find regular ipad too big for things like kindle reading. Now stereo speakers finally too, so one of my biggest grievances with the Mini fixed!
LMAOOOOOOOOO at this title. Tom you’re too much. 😂
That's what she said
Thought hes gonna say, " its not about the size, but about the performance. "
@@markbelaya6787 Yeah, that is how apple presents it on their website.
idk i personally think an 8 incher is just the right size for me 🤔 it would fit in all the right places!
I’ve been waiting for an upgrade to the mini. I have several Apple products but none has me so enthusiastic to purchase as this one. So I’m very pleased with the new features. I’ll be purchasing one, hopefully tomorrow!! And will especially enjoy it while traveling.
I bought a mini 6. I have an air 4 and I love it. I wasn't sure about the mini at first, but after a trade in from another ipad, it cost less then $100. I love the mini! It does everything I need it too.
There's no particular up or down volume button. It adapts to how you hold it. The volume up also acts as volume down when held upside down and vice versa
The best thing about Apple is they slap the same flagship chip in every model
well the ipad mini chip is slightly worse than the iphone one (one less graphics core i think) but its more than enough
@@alyx6427 Isn't it the same 5GPU-cores as iphone 13 pro/max? Unlike 13 /mini 4 GPU-cores.
@@holypotatoz8950 i think it had less performance, might just be a lower clock speed insteax
@@holypotatoz8950 yeah they're clocked at a lower clock speed 2.93ghz where the iphones are 3.23
@ScienceVideosFan I mean the mini 6 had a major redesign from mini 5.
How comfortable is the Mini 6 to use for sidecar use, or would you recommend just using a bigger iPad?
Looks like the mini will be perfect to install in my car.
I would normally not get a purple device but starlight is basically just gold, space gray is blah, and pink sand is a non-option, but this purple is beautiful!
I bought an iPad Mini Cellular 8 years ago. I did not like it for browsing - I use my 14" laptop for that.
I use my Mini almost exclusively when I travel for the following:
#1- as a GPS unit in a vehicle - the best GPS ever!
#2 - as a Sidecar or mirror screen to view video a/w my laptop on the road
#3 - & as an eReader
Overall these years that is about all I have used the mini for (I don't game)
I will likely buy the new Mini 6 as my old one is on its last leg!
Please someone tell apple to add splitview on ipads when they are kept vertical, like one app on top of another. It will be really good to take notes watching lecture on upper half and taking notes on lower half. Currently it only works in which apps are side by side (both vertical even rotated), which is not efficient.
Yep agreed
Dude as an Iphone mini user I reslly enjoy your screen ration on your videos. Usually every video i watch is scramped but you use my whole screen thanks.
Good review. I’ve ordered one, delivered on Friday. The only negative for me is no 120hz but I expect that’ll come in the next gen and I’ll upgrade then.
That’s apple for you they never give you all you want thats how they keep you hooked.
@@tthsgun thats not what im saying, we don’t want m1 chip in the ipad mini cuz that would definitely cost a lot and would drain the battery fast, what im saying is why are they still selling 64 gigs ? Were in 2021 64 gigs are really low storage, to pay such a price for 64g is bad. What we want is 128gigs for the starting price and 120hz would be really nice given the prices were paying. If your gonna say we have to pay more for those features not really, Check the prices on android tablets and phones they offer everything u need and more for less prices than the starting ipad mini. If ur gonna say then get an android tablet i would love to grab me and android tablet but the thing that keeps me hooked on apple products is the operating system. Imagine an android tablet or phone filled with features like 144hz big battery higher mega pixels bigger camera zoom full screen, touch id and much more running ios that would be a dream.
it make sense tho for this device cause 120hz drains battery faster
@@joseqmedina101 not really though think about this its available on phones which is much smaller why isn’t it available here ? Plus do u know how promotion works its automatic switching between screen refresh rates thats saves alot of power.
@@GHOSTCAMP again your statament doesnt erase the fact that 120hz do drain battery faster than 60hz. Also keep in mind that apple wont sabotage their own products what are you asking for is like a petition to put a corvette´s motor inside a camaro. Whats the pourpose of the car brand to sell the first one then
The iPad mini I was looking forward too as I have the 5 and it’s been fantastic, probably Apples best tablet. Glad for the better camera, Usb C (for connecting equipment from cameras, storage, scientific equipment like portable MRI scanners) and new Touch ID. As an engineer, I’m sadly disappointed, no thunderbolt 4, £100 more expensive for the cellular , no NFC support and no smart connector for a keyboard/trackpad like the Surface.
its an ipad mini, any trackpad or keyboard on it would be not a very nice experience, plus you don’t really need thunderbolt 4 cause it already has USB 3
@@alyx6427 Surface Go 3 has a keyboard/trackpad. Blackberry and early android phones had tiny QWERTY keyboards and they were amazing to use. As someone who has a disability and an engineer a physical keyboard would be really useful and easier to type on like the Logitech keyboard folio for the mini in 2013. I can’t carry a heavy Bluetooth keyboard. As mentioned before, the keyboard would be vital for engineers, scientists and emergency service personnel working on critical systems. Thunderbolt 4 support would be useful who require connecting to external displays in their day to day work. NFC support on a small factor like the old Google Nexus 7 means that you don’t have to take your phone out for Apple Pay or other uses of NFC.
@@LeornianCyng the surface go is a similar size to the iPad pro 11, whereas the iPad mini is a fair bit smaller and the target audience (seems to be hobby pilots and people who want a small iPad for specific things like reading or just media consumption) probably wasn't one apple thought needed a physical keyboard (and if it's only a small percentage of the user base who needs one it's not feasible to make an entire physical keyboard for them)
@@alyx6427 The iPad mini isn’t just for hobby pilots. An example of a user case, handheld MRI/Ultrasound scanners have been made with iPad apps for paramedics in emergency or remote situations in the field. And again as someone who has a disability, typing on a touchscreen is really difficult. Logitech made a keyboard folio case for the mini in 2013 and that was great. BlackBerry and Nokia had so many PDA’s and phones with keyboards way smaller.
I love the iPad Minis! It's my favorite iPad lineup out of all, cause I don't like the iPad Air because of its size and the iPad Pros because of price, not worth it. The iPad Mini has the perfect size for me and it's well balanced, better than the original iPad with better speakers, laminated screen, better design and so on.
I'm currently typing with my iPad Mini 5. It's my current secondary tablet. For my main tablet I always go with Samsung's best tablet, cause it's everything I wish on a tablet, plus it's at a decent price too (around $600), I have the Galaxy Tab S7 and I absolutely love it. As much as I would love to upgrade both to the Mini 6 and Tab S8, I will not, and I will wait for like 4-5 years to upgrade them.
As a physician I use the mini for rounding in the hospital. This is the mini I’ve been waiting for. Too bad I have to wait 4-6weeks for mine to ship
Me too😢
Same 😩
Cancel the order and buy it in store on 24th.
Thats what im gonna do, i dont want to wait till oct 27 for a pre order, the point of pre order is to get it early.
@@apdroidgeek1737 it’s not in my store yet target or Walmart or best buy don’t know when 🤷♂️
hi, do you recommend this for a freshman nursing student? cuz I'm really looking forward to buy this one
Did you know that on all WIFI only Ipads, Apple Maps does not give turn by turn directions unless you get the Cellular version? Even using an external GPS, Apple maps still only list out directions. Anyone planning to use this in car as a GPS should keep that in mind. Google maps and Waze will allow an external GPS to work however. Just FYI
Lol for maps Google is too far ahead
people use apple maps for navigation?? thats news to me. only if apple would buy out waze that would make their app revolutionary
Nobody on earth uses apple maps
@@M_H_H i use to used it until it lead me to a road blocked by construction, i literally panicked, then i downloaded google map, it lead me to alternate route, i can also use it offline which is great.

Of all the products shown at the event. This was the one that I thought was actually worth putting money down. A fresh contemporary design with great battery. Along with worthwhile component upgrades. If I wasn't going all Google this year I'd probably pony up for this.
All google? May I ask why?
@@ohwga well I've have an Xr and a watch 3. Still working fine. Apple this year didn't bring it except for the iPad mini. Google this year though looks like it might have a real contender in the Pixel 6. That along with a rumored Pixel watch has me going all in if it's there. I usually double carry, with both a Pixel and an iPhone. If though it disappoints then I'll stay where I am.
@@ohwga I mean why not? lol
@@RobertWilke have you seen the leaked pixel 6 benchmarks? pretty sure your xr is still faster haha
This was a useful watch, thank you. I deliberated for ages about whether to go for the 11" iPad Pro, but honestly I think the smaller size of this device will be perfect for my needs so I've bought the Mini 6 instead. I just find larger tablets are weirdly a bit of a pain to handle, and I much prefer the option to hold with one hand. Although the Pro is undeniably powerful, realistically I couldn''t see myself regularly using it for memory-intensive activities ahead of my laptop. The Mini will still be a useful device for occasional photo editing when I'm away from home, but generally I'll be using it for reading news/articles/twitter around the house. Plus with the money I've saved I can actually justify buying the Apple pencil!
I love the iPad mini as an ebook reader, a compact video player, and a portable gaming machine. It’s nice and convenient during flights too. Highly recommended.
499 dollars for an ebook reader?
you can easily hold it with one hand maaaan that is the way to go.. most apps/pages are going to be optimized for small-size displays anyway I do not see the screen being too small at all. on the go watchin media content, reading an ebook, doing a quick sketch.. perfect! gonna buy that
The first channel reviewing the rear camera of iPad mini 👍👍👍
iPad mini 6 has lost the headphone jack but I understand you can buy a usb-C to audio jack. (a short connecting wire ) and connect your headphones into the jack.
What storage do you recommend?
I feel like 64 is basic but I wouldn't want to run out of space.
Especially since I only want it to take notes and basic things, both from school and multimedia.
But the 254 version I feel is much and more expensive 😶. But I read that adding storage helps the optimal functioning of the device.
But honestly I don't know if it's true 🤔
Looking forward to mine arriving today. As Tech Chap points out, a bit pointless if you have an iPhone Pro Max but I’ve got the 12 Mini. This then makes the perfect Mini family for me and stops me hammering my poor phone to death daily! Looking forward to the little tablet with big balls
How’s ur battery health so far on the 12 mini, and what activities do u now use the iPad mini for as suppose to the 12 mini?
Is the IPad mini good for watching movies and shows??
should I get a new iPad or a new MacBook I have a 2018 6th gen iPad and a base model 2014 retina MacBook Pro
I have thought of it to be too small, but when I go to the shop have a look and feel~ I realize it just fits in hand and big enough to do the thing I wanted.
coming from a person who love the nexus 7, the new ipad mini is a definite buy for me. Its ironic seeing back then the nexus 7 was a direct competition with the ipad mini.
I'm actually considering it for graphic design purposes... the iPad Pro is just too wide for me (that is, I already use a computer paired with a secondary monitor) and expensive, while this iPad mini seems to fit my preferences when it comes to "tablet" sizes... What do you think? Has anybody already tried apps such as Procreate and Affinity Designer on this iPad mini?
I have 120hz in my iPad Pro and I don’t notice any real difference to my old ipad
Which do you recommend more? the ipad air 4 or the ipad mini 6
Depends if you want bigger screen.
Same I’m in a dilemma as to which to get
Ill get the ipad mini 6, cuz im sure ipad air 5 will come out next year and that would piss me off if i just bought an ipad air 4 and it only has like 5 months before it gets outdated.
Also depends on what youre using it for, are you gonna use it in bed? Watching movies browsing social media, if so then get the mini, if youre gonna use it as your main device like doing paper work, writing notes, doing hw, then i recommend getting the air.
The Mini feels like it was built for the post-pandemic era that's not quite here. If you're frequently reading or playing games on a train or at the coffee shop, it's great! But I'm still spending most of my time indoors, and it's tough to justify such a high price on a screen when I already have so many around me. And the 64GB is ridiculous for the price of 500 bucks!
I bought mine. I can’t wait for it to arrive Friday.
Do you like it?
07:39 I am a fan of the cat! Also, thank you for this great review! You are the first one I hear saying '' I don't think anyone NEEDS an iPad, but...'' I LOVE Apple, but they indeed demonstrate to us, humans, what we have become. We replace want-it with need-it and let us fulfill ourselves with short-lived happiness, and then we move on to the next bigger, thinner, smaller, quicker, ''better'' thing. It is no surprise to see how people raved about the iPad Pro or Air, now these are not such a great fit after all, and the Mini is the next best thing... We really need to reflect upon this way of living. And I am saying it as a big Apple fan :)
I would be more interested in a review of the cat. Dont really care about the ipad mini.
Do you think it’s possible to use this new iPad mini as a daily driver phone? As in, iPhone replacement. Assuming you get the celular model and have a solid data plan, what obstacles would you face? I know there would be a lack of the native phone app, but couldn’t you still use iMessage and FaceTime and maybe a 3rd party VOIP app?
Ohh.. I'm not sure I would. Maybe pair it with an iPhone mini 😅
Also no earpiece, so you have to use headphones or put the call on speaker (as another reviewer pointed out in comments on their vid).

I sold my iPad Air 2000 last week and ordered the 2021 mini. SoC and cameras are much better, the display ppi is higher and I can't w8 holding this little beast in my hands.
This is exactly what I want, but I want it running Android from a company that won't abandon it in like 6 months. So Google would be ideal. I would take a smaller version of that extreme value for money Realme Pad too. However since no one in the Android space cares about small tablets, I've been considering an iPad mini for quite a while now.
I love my iPad Mini 6…
I have the iPad Mini 5.. The Apple Pencil 1 is ok but there is always a chance on loosing the cap for the Lighting connection.
I agree the feel of the Apple Pencil 2 is much better than the Apple Pencil 1. One draw back on the Apple Pencil 2 is there is a risk of loosing it when you are charging it when you carry it

I will get this. I’m 74 with bad heart and must air travel to all my appointments. Last trip, my 12.9 iPad Pro was too heavy for me, but i did it. I love my iPhone XR, but would like something super light but with bigger screen to watch Colbert. Mini might be my answer. thanks for review.
I think that’s a great choice - hope you enjoy it! 👍
I had the ipad mini 1 in 2012 and it was awesome. Mine was 64gb too, 10 years ago!
Thanks for the review. I spent a lot of money on the iPad Pro 12.9 because I wanted to use it with the Apple Pencil to take notes out in the field. As it turns out, the iPad Pro 12.9 is just too damned heavy to be useable for that, especially after I added a Zugu case. I get actual pain in my arm after 10 minutes. I've decided the 12.9 is good for using procreate in the office, but impractical as a go-to note/sketch tablet out on site. So I am looking at investing in the mini, which looks like it will work well.
Cellular or wifi only?
Does it support the first gen apple pencil
Yup,.. I got one of these and I can say with confidence that it is one of my favourite devices!.. I was waiting for an upgrade to a new design and this thing checks all of the boxes for my use cases,.. reading and annotating papers, reading books, playing games and watching content!..BTW, Apple TV+ is really really amazing!.. some of the stuff on there is just phenomenal and the screen on this is really good for rendering high quality!,.. For me, this IPad is the perfect size for most students, unless you're into graphics and drawing in which case I would recommend a larger screen i.e. IPad Air/Pro,.. One of my friends in civil engineering got the Pro and I can understand the use case for him,,
Wow that Nexus 7 callout really brought back some great memories :')
Is the magnet of the case strong enough to hold the iPad mini face down without dropping?
It continues to bug me that a $500 tablet doesn't have GPS standard--you need to buy the LTE model for $150 more. That $150 premium is significantly more than the typical selling price of e. g., the Lenovo Tab M8 FHD, which does have GPS. The iPad Mini is a far superior tablet in almost every other way, but not 5x better. You don't need a data connection to use GPS; before I take a trip I download the topo maps for the areas I'll be hiking, ready to use in my trek planning/tracking app. That app does work with my phone, but the larger tablet screen is useful in reducing the number of times I want to unfold and refold the paper map I carry as a backup.
Thank you. you're the first reviewer for kindle app.
They did mention the A15 in the event, they just waited until the recap at the end because they wanted to bring it up for the first time when talking about the iPhone
i was looking for a smaller but more powerful ipad can’t wait i pick mine up friday.
Can you connect iPad Mini to a monitor, add a keyboard and work with it?
Wich iPad is better to take notes, Air or Mini?
Thanks for the review wanted to pick one up my self so thanks for reviewing
would you say that 64gb is enough for a casual user who wants to use the tablet for project management apps, email, zoom/Skype/teams, spreadsheets, pages, UA-cam, netflix, Disney+, prime - with occasional offline downloads for when I'm travelling.
I'm just worried that in 3-4 years time with app upgrades and OS updates the 64gb will end up being less than 5gb.
And if things get tricky is the 200gb icloud storage worth it? Essentially is 64gb big enough for 4 years of OS updates and few apps?!
Yep I would 👍
@@Thetechchap much appreciate your prompt reply! Cheers :)

I ordered mine 5 days ago and it’s going to take a month to come seems like it’s worth the wait for my business
Are you using a case on the iPad? What is that protective corner cover thing?
I am getting it because I tend to carry my iPad Pro 12.9 with the magic keayboard. So having the smaller one will replace it for me to carry around and the 5G LTE so easy to carry around with me all the time.

A 256Gb 5G Mini costs 900 euros is France. And base 128Gb M1 iPad Pro 11wifi costs 900 euros.
The base mini costs 6000 euros which is a lot cheaper than the base M1 iPad Pro 11!
It is about Size!
I've had an ipad mini 2 as my daily driver since ~2013, & have just upgraded to the mini 6.
the Mini's fit into my outdoor jacket pockets comfortably (the Air doesn't). The mini can be held in the palm of my hand with relative ease (larger ipads can't). The screen size makes use of internet or app where any typing in much easier than even the largest iphones. The mini is the perfect 'Goldilocks' size for anyone who uses a device more for app/internet use vs just making calls on.
I've said it before, I'll say it again, Apple should make the cellular versions of the mini capable of making normal mobile calls, it would be the 'perfect' mobile product then.
So in short, I think it is primarily about size.
@@zaid4785 hi & thx for responding. Yes, I know they do, I've had a Mini 2 cellular since they launched circa 2013, & I have a mini 6 cellular now.....BUT, Apple do not give the Cellular versions a Phone App or normal phone making capability, but the mini cellular version have all the hardware that is required - mic, speaker, touch screen keypad, contacts lists, & of course the cellular circuitry & a sim card holder/reader.

Great content. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the Mini 6, sans the pen. You seemed to be leaning towards the 64 as 128 isn't an option. Would one really need a 256?? Thanks!!
Depends on what you use it for! If you want to use it to read books or scripts of uni, take some notes and play some games and watch some netflix / youtube / ready your mails, 64 gb should be enough for you (if you dont store all your pics there).
I've been using ipad mini 5 for gaming and editing my gameplay videos and it works perfectly i'll definitely upgrade and get the 256 storage variant because 64 gb is very less for gamers if you record your gameplays

Hi! I would like your opinion on this thing. So I have an iPad Pro 2020. I bought it because I like to do some video editing and my old windows laptop was getting to slow to do that. Because I'm a college student, I decided to get the iPad instead of a MacBook so that I could take notes, and if there was a subject that required to have a laptop I would still be able to use my windows for simple tasks. Now, my windows computer completely broke down and I decided to get myself a MacBook Air M1. Therefore, now I only use the iPad for web browsing and taking notes, everything else (including video editing) is done on my MacBook. And that leaves me with a question: Do you think I would feel a HUGE downgrade if I sold my iPad Pro I bought the iPad 9th gen? Because I feel that I have this powerful machine that I don't use to its full potencial, and probably could do the same things on a cheaper iPad .
Sorry for the long text and the broken English (it's my second language xD )
I guess if you are using it for web surfing and reading articles, iPad 9 gen would works fine. Furthermore, you won’t miss something because it serves the same as the pro.
If you got yourself a Mac then it would handle most if not all of the tasks you were doing with the Pro. If you see yourself using IPP less and less and needing to find a reason to justify using it then I'd sell it and buy a cheaper one (for media consumption, SNS), if you dont plan to game on it extensively
Yep ordered a purple 256 gig one although a 128 gig would have been more suitable for my use case if it was available. I must say I’m liking your 60 fps format. That fps pops on smaller devices that don’t display 4K. Something for me to consider.
Another top-class review. Thanks, Tom!
I think its a great deal considering you're getting the A15 bionic chipset, same as the iPhone 13.. meanwhile the reg iPad selling for $299 get the A13 chipset ,which is on the iPhone 11.. notice the both are $200 less than the phone.. I wish apple made a new mini with the A13 chip n sell that for $299 also., most ppl only use it for watching netflix, youtube, web browsing,etc.. I'm still gonna get one since it'll still perform well 3 yrs down the road.cheers everyone
With a PC and xps laptop and S22 ultra this Mini would fill the gap for me, mainly for consumption of media and dipping my toes into apple OS.
So tempted to get the 256GB version but like the Air, its price is already close to the M1 iPad Pro base model. 😅
I have ordered one for myself. I wait for its delivery with much anticipation.
I can't decide whether to buy the iPad Mini or the base line iPad 2021. Mainly I want to use it as e-reader for kindle, mangas and comics. The mini is lighter and more compact but the base line one has a larger screen.
Go for iPad mini
what about the jelly effect on screen?
You should make a comparison with the z fold 3. Little out of the ordinary, I know.
And after 3 years we have a updated ipad mini
The fact that Apple didn't just give the user the choice between Face ID and power button Touch ID still baffles me especially on the iPhones.
yeah, lack of FaceID is disappointing
Looking forward to getting mine. Great upgrade.
I love it so much. Also nice presentation. Thank you.
I think it's an interesting iPad, but I don't know if it's for me just because it does have that overlap with a MAX phone
I had an iPad mini 3 and absolutely loved it! Was even using it to work remotely in Photoshop on my PC. Super useful if I just needed to change something real quick.
