      @@1Whipperin To directly answer your question about Jesus' command, sometimes yes, sometimes no. The warning is to not waste your time on those who will metaphorically trample the Gospel - if you *know* who that is, don't waste your time. Kick off the dust and move along. This isn't supposed to be an excuse to not spread the Word, however: just because they have all the regalia and appearance of one who will not listen does not necessarily mean that they will not be receptive (we are to be sowers first, and let God be the reaper), nor just because they seem to be "eager to hear" does not mean that they will hear eagerly. I.e., don't try to preach the Gospel to one such as Richard Dawkins, not because we are to wish for his damnation, but because it is known that he has heard and encountered it and ridiculed it many times.
      We are to go out and make disciples and spread the Word amoung the peoples of the world. Many will not be receptive, some will be. There are many who need to hear, and there is precious little time to waste for even if the Kingdom of God were to delay for another century, not everyone alive today will be around to hear it. Our lives are short, our time is short.

      @@1Whipperin This touches on Predestination. I don't mean to suggest one way or the other about it - it is already determined who will choose His way or not, by Him. I do not understand how the two ideas are fully reconciled, only that they are.
      To speak to audiences that are receptive is most difficult: how can one know if their audience is receptive? Is there a way to know? What if preaching to what might be considered an unreceptive audience is actually the first breaking of the stony ground that will eventually lead to their salvation down the line, because someone confronted them about it when they were anything but receptive? What if an audience that is receptive today is actually a tare in the field, unknown to any but the Lord? This is the difficulty I see in only sharing the Gospel to what seems to be a receptive audience: how do you know?
      I agree: some people will not be swayed, and it is apparent over time who they are (as they will not repent, or rather, that good fruit has not been shown). They should be moved on from. But to write someone off just because they look "intimidating" (for any number of reasons - they aren't all big, mean, surly-looking dudes, after all) is to do them a disservice.

I don’t see how adults at a university can be so disrespectful of someone speaking at a school for purposes at the very LEAST of which being the development of ideas and rational thought. I can’t hold against them something for which they don’t and can’t understand without God’s grace revealing the beauty of God’s purposes in motherhood and an appreciation for the speaker; but even so, I bet the generation before mine would have never gotten away with their behavior in the universities.

      I'm the generation before you and I saw it then when I was attending university 15+ years ago, albeit not to this degree. Social media wasn't the ruling class in my heyday (although it was beginning to take flight).
      Before "likes" and subscribers, people received their validation through their peer groups by discussing topics they didn't agree with. Sometimes it would incite further discussion, while other times it was dismissed as "yeah, that's stupid." These days that kind of dialogue is a lost art.
      *Everything* is about feelings, validation, and getting your voice heard--the likes of which is seen by the random interruption blurt-outs from the children claiming to be adults.
      Beyond the sorrow that awaits those who reject the gospel is the sorrow of rejecting *any* blessing from living a life how it was designed by the Creator. So many could be enriched if they would simply *receive* what is being presented instead of wiping their asses with and discarding it.

    I only wish that a camera had shown the reactions of these kids as the kind Pastor listed his examples of toxic matriarchy. I wonder if there were some looks of befuddlement upon hearing that all moms don't call their child's employers, professors, doctors, etc. These kids are likely products of the very toxic parenting to which he refers and they didn't realize that they were, like the book he read, part of his presentation.

    Wow. As a mom of 4 this was hard to listen to. The children in the audience were absolutely monstrous about motherhood with no self-awareness of how cruel they are towards women who have chosen lives of service. Pastor Wiley's question on them not believing they were blessings to their parents was heartbreaking.

    I commend the speaker for remaining calm. This talk really emphasizes why it is not good to place women in small boxes - they should have interests outside the home, beyond their children. Nurturing (for dads and moms) means rising to a child's level of development, not keeping them at a low level, and it eventually means being left. If we say a woman's primary worth is as mother or her fame is only at home, that limits her own life outside of the children, and she is more than that. Parents launch children to adulthood where their fame is brought into the world beyond.

    I understand he was highly distracted, and that’s hard to talk through, however he mentioned over-mothered kids going into welfare programs but then couldn’t answer the question about over-mothering effecting the economy or society, stating he never had thought of it?? That’s odd. Perhaps he just didn’t understand how it was worded and it’s relation to what he had just spoke of. But all of his answers to the questions seemed painfully brief. He had some amazing opportunity to get a little deeper and shirked it. Perhaps he was trying to suppress an inner rage at the complete and utter impertinence of the audience and was struggling to think clearly on much, which is understandable. Considering the circumstances of the present diaper-wearing adults in the crowd, he did well.

    • @rdnugent1
      @rdnugent1 5 років тому +3

      Hannah, at the outset, I could see that, too. However, Wiley was being shrewd insofar that he was considering the silliness of his audience and only spreading his net short and diving an inch deep into the topic matter. (Consider how he read "Are You My Mother?" as a part of his lecture. This is what you do with children.) He most likely hadn't thought about that particular question, and perhaps if this had been an actual adult audience, he would have been willing to think out loud or address it off-the-cuff, but he wisely surmised that this was not the venue. I applaud him for his obvious shrewdness and discernment.

    • @SamOwenI
      @SamOwenI 4 роки тому +3

      Actually, if you listen to the talk, he made no reference to the effect over-nurturing has on economic growth. He was also simply given a title for the talk ("toxic matriarchy"). He could choose how to define it and what to say about that.
      Therefore, if he hasn't done any specific reading about the possible effect on economic growth, then it is wise for him to not make a comment on that.
