I didn't discover my curly hair until I was in high school because I was always taught to straighten it. When I was working in a corporate setting, I felt weird and judged whenever I wore my hair curly so I didn't do it often. These days, I straighten my hair like once or twice a year, and I love my curly hair so much! I'm so happy that curly hair is more widely accepted now. 😊

I know you it s a lot of work but Can you introduce subtitles when the kettle works, or if you close a door or pouring the tea in the cup?. Maybe you can add it for future videos. I Come to know seeing series in foreign lenguages that add so much o the video and help a lot deft or low range hearing people.

A college/university essentials video would be so so helpful. Every year I try to convince myself to go completely digital with class notes but I’m one of those people who absorbs things soooo much better when I write them down. I’ve started buying notebooks made of recycled paper but sometimes I wonder if it’s enough.

I'm exactly the same, and I haven't bought a notebook since I started uni (starting on my 4th year soon). I'm a huge hoarder, so what I did was just take all the blank pages from all my old notebooks and use them, now I've started with my sister's old books so I think I can keep it going for a while 😅 it takes some time at the beginning of each semester but I think it's worth it, but it does require ridiculous hoarding habits though

Do you have any thrift shops around you? I’m in my millionth year of college and all my supplies have come from thrift shops. Notebooks, calculators, note cards, pens. I also use a lot of pens at work, and I always get loads for pennies at thrift stores. You do have to go through them when you bring them home to root out the dead ones, but the majority will work and I’ve gotten some AMAZING pens doing this. I actually don’t think I’ve had to buy a single school supply new (except for scantrons of course) in years.

Loved this video! I've never seriously wanted straight hair, but I was taken in by all of the "frizz management" types of products because I thought it would make my hair easier to deal with because curly hair is its own beast, but it just takes patience to slowly understand how to work with it rather than against it. It was never worth the money though, because those products do mostly feel like they're in service of forcing curly hair to be something it's not.
I'm all in favour of secondhand tech and always have been just because I don't have the money to keep up with updates anyway, but I also feel really happy knowing that it's the more ethical option too. And "limited" tech that allows you to do what you need to but that doesn't distract too much with lots of extras is probably more conducive to a more balanced life anyway.

Yes I struggled with my hair as well. I had long hair down to the middle of my back. Everyone said it was so beautiful but I struggled with it. It was not curly but bushy. I Always wore it up or in a ponytail. It was hot and I hated it. I finally cut it all off and I LOVE my hair cut now. Mia Farrow in Rosemary's baby short. Easy cool and comfortable 👍

I loved this video! Thank you :)
I always had this idea growing up - and into my early/mid 20's that in order to have 'made it' in life I had to be working in finance or something similar, rushing to the office in clickety clackety heels with a latte in hand even though that lifestyle has ALWAYS gone against my core beliefs; the weird thing is that I wasn't consciously aware of this 'ideal' I had until a couple of months ago.
The day before yesterday I started three 30 day challenges and one of them was to 'Listen to myself' for 30 days, rather than do what I think other people expect of me/I think I should expect of myself (eating icecream at the cinema when I don't really want to, refraining from wearing a certain jumper because of who gave it to me, even though I would feel most comfortable in it) and even in this last couple of days it's made a noticeable positive difference to my stress levels.

Hey, I've been following your channel for a while and I just wanted to say that I appreciate how you share your knowledge and experience authentically. Watching you create the more realistic 'low waste' movement has shown that not only do you want to improve your own actions, but make change more accessible to others. You use your platform not to perpetuate idealistic trends, but to share a lifestyle that is realistic and can be sustainable for a lot of people. This is how we need to communicate more in low waste, minimalist, and vegan communities: by accepting and encouraging small change instead of excluding people for not being as 'strict' as others. This type of negative encouragement will reach few people for a short time until the trend dies, ultimately hurting the community. Thank you for creating an honest platform!

This is a lovely soothing video, filled with useful, considered information. How much money, time and resources do we women spend on that elusive ‘ideal’ self, I wonder? A friend of mine achieved a number of personal goals and then said sadly, “So when do I get to be happy?” This video didn’t feel at all long, by the way. I prefer them over 20 minutes.

@@bubbbbletea The camera of my fairphone 2 very is disappointing, however, they have updated it. Also, I had to replace the microphone, the battery over 3 years and cover ... it also has a lot of reboots. But, I am sure they upgraded it by now if you would buy it new. And it works like a normal phone, I read a lot of reviews of people who do not have these problems, I just have an older version. Still, I think it is best to wait for the Fairphone 3! ( I feel like it is coming soon) - Just keep in mind it is a starting business, the phones will not be perfect (like no perfect camera ). I must say (on a more positive note), the screen is very strong if you drop it, it stays intact. You can fix everything and replace it yourself (and cheaply) - they are made from almost 100% conflict-free materials, they use more eco-friendly materials...!! So It really depends on what you use your phone for, for calling and texting, watching videos. basically normal use, it is perfect, if you want to take high-quality pictures or edit them do not buy fairphone 2!

talking about curly hair I really need to say this. I had the same experience as yours, always people and even my mom say that I'm beautiful, but my hair is not, and I need to straight it to look good.so I always straight my hair and be really ashamed whenever someone talk about my hair. and even covered it when it's not straight or something, but the deal is about couple of days I discovered that my hair is beautiful in the way it is and I'm beautiful in the way I'm , I really start take care of my hair with natural stuff rather than spoiled it with chemicals ,and I'm really happy with it even when people negatively comment about it.

It took me ages to accept myself. I am very petite. People called me dwarf (some still do) or even midget. I was told I could never be an actress because I would look ridiculous on stage or in camera. It really killed my self esteem. However, I learnt that we decide how people should look like because we are the society. I decided not to judge and not to listen because I'm an unique human being as everyone else. Here I am now doing the job I love (acting) because I CAN do it, I won't let anyone put me down, never ever again! I still dye my hair tho and straighten it sometimes, but that's because I like it, not because society says I look better like that. ;-)

People with curly hair want it straight, people who have straight hair want it curly.
I stopped coloring my hair and embraced going grey, and this is one of the most liberating things i've ever done.
People tend to wish they have something else, what they don't have, and i believe marketing is playing really well with this. It triggers our insecurities and makes us want what's magazines say we should have, or want what the neighbour/the actress/the rich entrepreneur has.
Let's learn to be satisfied with what we have already. No more frustration. No more waste.

For me, I think I actually have found some benefit from imagining an "ideal self." But I can see how it would be harmful. For me, seeing people like you making sustainable choices as a consumer gives me something to imitate, and I imagine myself in the future and think, "the choices I make now help make me into someone who lives a sustainable life in the future." I think about the furniture I'm buying now and how I'll have it in the future, about the food I buy now, and how I should start getting used to less meat and less dairy (I eat cheese every day, actually...), about the packaging I use and how I can use less. I think often not only, "do I really need this? No, don't buy it." But also, "does this seem like something that I'd buy once I've got my life all figured out?" (Lol, which I know will never happen) and sometimes that helps me realize on a holistic level that I don't want it in my life.
Latest thing I'm proud of: my boss pointed out that the nuts we get into the cheese shop come in really durable, tightly-sealing plastic bins with good handles, and they always just get recycled. I just moved, and I took her advice and now I have them for rices, and flours instead of buying new canisters!

My hair is so thick that when I did my hair back then I didnt have access to the greatest products like we have now. So when I found more products that worked for my hair I just ran with it. I haven't straightened my hair in a long time and I dont think I ever will again unless I have long hair (which I dont now) and it's for a special ocassion.

I think I get what you mean with that ideal self. I just find it difficult to distinguish between the ideal self and to buy things that are aiming to a self that you really want to become. I mean even if I would be 100 procent happy with myself, maybe I still want to try new things or do things a bit different. I guess the difference is that the ideal self comes from outside our self, or is aiming to please someone else and the other is coming from inside ourselves. Does that reasoning make any sense? I mean even though you have all the right to love yourself exactly how you are right now things do develop and to be part of that development and have goals doesn't have to be a bad thing. But it is tricky to remember that the love is there always.

Hi I'm a new subscriber! I was exactly the same about my curly hair mostly because of the frizz and I didnt know what to do with it. Gel has been so helpful. Ive even had it chemically straightened, wearing it straight would be a constant battle since I live in rainy England 😂. Oddly I've had alot of comments on how people love my curly hair haha.

Learning to accept curly hair is an ongoing journey for me. I still don't feel like it looks 'professional', and it doesn't feel particularly sexy, purley because what we've been conditioned to believe by mainstream media. Now I'm 99% happy with my curls, I'm trying to learn to love that they're turning grey! lol xx

I consistently have this issue where I have to try and separate the “true” me from the ideal me that I have to be at work, school, or other “professional” settings where I am trying to make a good impression in order to do well.

New subscriber here from shelbizee. I wonder because of the channel name, do you grow food? I love all the inspiration of these things, but i think the #1 way to be healthy and sustainable is to grow your own food. ♡ one of my goals is to inspire folks to begin growing food.

Oh, the ideal self... 😂 Thinking that there is a need to change myself instead of nurturing myself made me waste so much money and effort. I've now arrived to this place in my mind where I feel that I'm finally truly moving past these ideas that I used to have. They are very sneaky thoughts though: I can only become more aware of them, instead of getting rid of them.
Thanks for a lovely video. 😊🌻🌱

Hi! Thank you for your video! I agree as well that new technology is not only wastefull but unethical....the problem is, what to do when you actually need it? (I recently drop my phone into water, and I have been checking for second hand shops, but it always gives me the uncertainty about the real quality of the phone....with a new one we buy that "garantie" of performance), so I am not sure what to do

I’ve always had stick straight hair and I remember when I was young I hated it. I always looked at girls with beautiful bouncy curls and I wished I could have curly hair too. I tried so many ways to curl it, curling sets, curling irons, perms. But my hair just wasn’t good at holding a curl. It took me so long to just accept what my own hair. Even to this day sometimes I wish I could have some more volume but I definitely am not stuck on it like I used to be.

all the white girls I know DO NOT have straight hair. only models have super straight hair!!! do people realize this??? any girl (or guy for that matter) who has "straight" hair probably spent an hour on it and $$. i'd rather focus on having clean hair that looks hydrated. i do still hate the little hairs on the top of my head, but hairspray helps with that!

Could you do a video on low impact stationery and/or school life? I'm trying to reduce my impact as a university student but I find it hard to find ethical and low waste stationery. Would love to hear your tips on this topic!

What?! who told you curly hair was not beautiful, seriously I have always LOVED curly hair, I have bone straight hair which I've never liked and I used to get perms to curl my hair since I was aged 14-17 lol (i'm 33 now) still wish I had curly hair! I'm glad you have embraced yours, it's beautiful

You hate perceived flaws in your body until you get older and have major health issues. After having chemo from breast cancer and had no hair for several months, I'm just happy to have my hair! And really regret the wasted time I spent pursuing an ideal physical self as a younger woman.

Love your videos, super informative and love your sincerity! Not sure if you've made a video on this yet, but could you share advice on career paths that are more sustainable, in regards to ethics but can also sustain one's self financially? It's been hard because I'm running into roadblocks because I want to work for ethical/sustainable companies and yet it often seems like they're not hiring or it would be working without compensation, and wanted to know if this is a problem for others too..Thank you!

Thank you for mentioning how unethical new tech is! It's weird that we have been taught that we need the latest upgrade even though the older version is still amazing, similar and yeah way cheaper not to mention more ethical

I've been wanting to get a 'new' camera (new to me) and was wondering where you go / search for second hand tech? Also, in the past, even when I've bought actual new tech, I've had issues with it and had to return it or get it fixed, so do you have any tips for ensuring you are buying something that is functioning and able to serve its purpose when buying second hand tech?

Where do you buy your second hand tech? My first thought would be eBay but just want to check I’m not missing out on some cool place for second hand tech.

interesting perspective as always 💓 what do you think is a good way to dispose old clothes made with unsustainable fabrics? back in november I started using only the clothes in my closet that were made of natural fibers, but still i have two big boxes full of stuff that I would actually wear if it wasn't for the microfibers problem 😅 and also some stuff which I no longer care about but I feel guilty throwing away
