- Welcome to the first dev log for Project Nectar - my VR Beekeeping game. This game is in early development and I wanted to get some feedback on the current prototype.
In the video, I'll show you the current state of the game and some of the progress I've made to get to this point.
A lot of the assets seen in this video are not final.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the game!

Huge fan of this. Shares a lot of vibes with VR games ive really enjoyed. I hope this gets more attention!
That's great to hear, thank you!
Thats cool
Thanks!
This is WONDERFUL! I really have higher hopes for this than your average devlog!
I love how much progress you already have on these interactions. It's also great that you have an understanding of what needs to be done to actually turn it into "game" (the standard for which is a little more achievable in a VR game, where people are already gonna wanna play with what you have). Looking forward to more videos!
Thank you for your feedback, I'm glad you like the devlog! Looking forward to sharing more progess soon.
This is looking incredible! What a great video! 🐝🐝🐝
Thank you - Glad you enjoyed the video!
Definitely cool idea! This also popped onto my yt homepage so im hoping you can get a lot of traction for your project with these videos!
Personally I dont quite dig the artstyle that much as in I think its cool but if I played this I think I'd like something a little different, but I think most people would really dig it! It looks wholesome and chill :)
That's fair enough, the style won't be for everyone. I'm a big fan of low poly, a big bonus is that is well suited to mobile + VR games as its less costly than higher res models.
That's exactly what I was going for, glad it came across that way!
I LOVE this game ❤
Nice peaceful VR game about bee farming sounds amazing. Best of luck!
Thank you!
1 can you make a crank to turn the wax cutting holder instead of auto Maroc
2 slow down the bee’s a touch and hold out your hand and one will land on it
3 maybe you could use the wax and have it do stuff? Don’t know but you do what you think is best
8:26 uhh yes to everything
Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback! I love the idea of having the bees land on your hand!
Yes, I'm thinking about being able to collect and sell the wax so it's not wasted and as another item for the player to sell.
Love this! 0 clue how I got here, glad the algorithm threw this at me. Anyways, keep it up! This game looks great
Ha! Well I'm glad you ended up here - thank you!
Love me a good devlog, subscribed to see more! Would love to hear about your struggles and how you overcame them, always comforting to know others "fail", and nice to see what they learn and how they solve problems :)
Awesome thank you! There have been a lot of fails for sure - Good to know, I'll try to incorporate that more in future devlogs. Thanks for your feedback!
Very cool. Here's some additional engagement, good sir.
Thank you, much appreciated!
I love the idea for this game! Looks so peaceful 🐝
I'm glad that came across in the footage!
this is so fun, thought you were way bigger, this will def blow up
Thanks, gotta start somewhere!
This Game looks awesome! Not many suggestions to make tbh, it looks well thought out already! I guess being picky, make the honey look less runny, more viscous? And after you pour the honey into the jar, maybe make the player put the lids and label on themselves (I.e label wrong you could get a negative review when you sell etc, making it an important aspect to get it right).
Otherwise keep going, can't wait to try when it's finished!
Thank you! Great suggestions - totally agree about the honey being too runny. I was wondering how indepth to go with the honey jar. I do quite like the idea of the player putting the lids on themselves. Thanks for the feedback!
pretty cool! keep up the great work
Thank you!
Very interesting idea. If you kept it with a simple game loop, making this a mixed reality game would be great. I can tend to my bees and garden in my own house. If you were aiming for the more grind like gameplay then make it less realistic, have elemental bees, craft special equipment, introduce a loot box element and attribute multipliers. Would love to see the bees walking around, climbing on hand models, attracted to certain flowers or food, get angry. The dev log would be excellent, i suggest following H3VR Antons style of Devlog.
A mixed reality version is a cool idea and not something I'd considered. Once the hive has a bit more functionality to it, I might have to try placing it in my living room.
Yes I am very excited to implement that when I get that task! I want to implment all of those things.
That's for the suggestion, I just checked out their channel and gave it a sub.
really beautiful it motivated me to continue making my game thank you
Thank you! Glad it's kept you motivated, good luck with your game, would be great to check it out when it's ready to show off.
@ im Just a beginner so there’s not much to see
Fair enough, good luck with your project!
I love bees. I can't keep them in my apartment. I've always wanted a bee keeping game. I'm going to buy this no matter how bad it is, but please make it good. 😂
I'd love a focus on maintaining the hive rather than honey production. Can we have a queen bee that lays eggs? Simulating the different stages of the bee life cycle, watching for swarms and splitting a hive, adding more supers, etc. That would be super interesting. Maybe we could buy different types of queen and try to breed the best Queen? I could go on... 😂
I'll do my best!
I love those ideas and some of those are already on my TODO list!
I think it looks great, while I think the bees are a bit overwhelming and scary, I still like it. I think a great adittion would be to make a system for players to place certain objects in the garden for perks. For example that the honey is produced faster or flowers are growing faster or or or
That's a great idea! I already wanted to have the player buy decorative items from the shop to place in the apiary, but having them provide a boost too would be even better.
I would love to play this game
That's amazing to hear!
I finally will have a reason to get VR
Glad you're interested! Looking forward to sharing more soon
This game looks amazing! I had an idea of creating a game based on beekeeping because I was inspired with www.youtube.com/@just_alex bee keeping videos, but you beat me to it! I can't wait to see how your game progresses. Keep up the good work!
P.s. Is it possible to have this as a non-vr game? I was just curious as I don't have a VR headset. If not, I might get one just for this game!
For feature suggestions,
I think a shop that sells bee hive parts or raw materials would be awesome. The player can choose to either build their own parts (which is cheaper but more time consuming) or buy the actual parts (more expensive but you have it instantly).
Also maybe a level progression system with better tools and equipment along with different qualities of honey produced. Better equipment -> Better quality -> More income from selling.
Also in the future maybe you can implement a bee counting system to indicate how fast a bee colony can produce honey. With this maybe also a swarming feature for the bees. They would swarm to a different location (maybe a tree nearby) with the players having to stop the swarming so that the bee count would be cut in half and honey production won't be hindered.
Lastly, maybe a queen bee shop with different breeds of queens that will produce different properties of bees like fast honey production, passive bees, less swarming of bees, fast bee breeding, etc.
Thank you very much! I've seen a couple of videos from him, he's great! Are you a fellow game Dev too then?
I am thinking of potentially releasing a PC port of the game so that I can reach a bigger audience but no promises. I need to finish the VR version first and then see if the game I end up with would translate well to non VR.
Thank you for all of the suggestions! I really like the purchasing of hive parts and making it yourself. It would go well with the painting aspect! Maybe hive orders could sit alongside honey orders! There's so much this game could encompass.
@@HenryJonesDev Yes I am! Although not an experienced one since I only just started self learning.
That's okay, PC ported or not, I'm still interested in seeing how the game develops!! Goodluck!!
You gotta start somewhere! Good luck on your game dev journey
