    My first time doing dip nails they cracked and chiped all around the free edge and the gel peeled, but now I know better and thanks to the apex method it solved all the problems I had. Thank you for tips and tricks. ❤️ My job is very hands on and I honestly though I was never gonna be able to rock longer nails but now I know I just needed more protection. Thank you 😊

    This is fantastic. I’ve been doing my own nails for about a month now, and I couldn’t stand the ridges I was getting in my nails afterward. I would buff forever to smooth it out. love it, I've just gotten into dip nails because my natural nails are incredibly weak and flexible (and even worse since having my baby) so it keeps them from just breaking off. I do find that my natural nails being so weak means that my dips are likely to break and lift where they peel the whole layer of nail off with them. Ugh, genetics. This is super helpful, thank you!

    Love love your video, thanks for all these great tips. I just started using dips 4 months ago and it was a disaster. It was getting so expensive and time consuming going to have fills at a salon. I wanted acrylic since my nails have always been so soft and breakable.
    When I first started doing my own nails I would use these nail tips (short, square) but they would break even before applying, then I switched to Tomicca extra short square, soft gel half matte, and they were great. Afterwards I’d apply the clear dip 2x and then I’d use nail polish instead of a color dip( only because I love this one Essie that changes from purple to green)
    The only problem I have encountered was my nails would have holes where I guess the dip didn’t stick and lumpy nails, so I’d have to redo.
    This video has helped me knowing where I’m going wrong, thank you so much

    Thank you for this!!! I struggle so much with “little hills” at the cuticle line 😭😭😭 but I think maybe using this apex method will cutdown on the bulk by my cuticle and help it be smoother almost like “it’s growing straight from my cuticles” 🤣🤣 I try so hard to do thin layers but I haven’t found the “perfect” amount of liquid on my brush. I always have to redid for more liquid because the powder below soaks too much up or I have to clean my brush because I grabbed too much 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

    Thank you for another great video! I had my thumb nail crack, and I believe it's my top coat. I will file it down tomorrow and check it out. What is the benefit of using the gel top coat on a dip powder manicure instead of the normal dip powder top coat? 🤔

    • @TracyCampanella
      @TracyCampanella 2 роки тому +1

      Gel top is usually more shiny. It also adds more strength.

    • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  2 роки тому +3

      I would say it’s personal preference! I have found both to be strong but I do think it varies largely on brand. I’ve played with some gels that were wayyy too thick imo. And I’ve played with some dip powder top coats that really underperformed. Like too thin & not shiny.
      If you don’t want to invest in a lamp (or don’t already own one) you can absolutely get a high shine + long lasting manicure with dip powder top coat. I loove the sparkle and co 2.0 that I showed in the video. It’s tad bit thicker so it really gives the thick + high shine look like gel.
      People are pretty ride or die when it comes to team gel top or team dip top. I love interchanging them. Usually if I’m doing gel art on top of dip powder then it’s just easier to top it off with gel top coat. But if I’m doing a straightforward dip manicure (like in the video) I usually top it off with dip top coat. The only reason I didn’t was because I had every intention of doing art on this mani 🤣🙈 I was planning on doing swirl art but after I saw how pretty it was I couldn’t bring my self to lol!
      If you do decide to try gels, my one piece of unsolicited advice would be to make sure it’s HEMA free. That way you are less likely to develop a gel allergy or have some sort of adverse reaction.
      I do plan to film a video comparing dip liquids + gel liquids. From prep to removal on the differences 🥰 hopefully that will cover more in depth on them for you! Ultimately, like I show in this video, they both had a high shine + durability. Just comes down to finding the right brand 💗

    • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  2 роки тому

      Oh no!! I’m so sorry to hear this!! I really want to get to the bottom of this 💖
      I find that lifting is usually from prep. What’s your prep process like? Please walk me through step by step of what you do before the dip powder application.
      For the gel, may I ask why you did 2 layers of gel top coat? Typically it would be 1 layer of gel top coat and cure. Did the gel peel off?
      For the chunk that you lost, was that a big piece of dip powder that came off?
      I know it’s a lot of questions but it helps me paint a picture of what’s going on 🫶🏻

    • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  Рік тому

      It could be from the free edge flexing. I would definitely give the apex a try first and see if that helps! If not, it could be from the dip powder not fully adhering to the nail. If the nail is too smooth or overly damaged. But I would definitely try the apex first before diving down the adhering road! It could be as simple as not having enough strength if the nail bends 🫶🏻

    Is it possible to add acrylic on top of dip nails? Example: clear dip powder, acrylic, and gel polish on top? Thin layers of each. I’m trying to find a way to save my nails with the same hardness of acrylic. I’m thinking once the acrylic is filed off, it would be less damage to just soak off the dip underneath. This may not even be possible, but the struggle is real!

    • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  Рік тому

      Great question! 🫶🏻 so dip powder is acrylic, just more finely milled. I’ve never attempted acrylic with monomer so I am no help there. Have you considered adding more layers of dip powder for strength? You can absolutely add gel polish on top too! When doing gel on top of dip powder just make sure to skip the buffing block and use 180 grit file instead. Gel needs a rough surface to adhere too.

    • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  Рік тому +1

      That can be so frustrating! It could be a few things 💕 first, it could be from prep. If the nail is too smooth at the free edge it may not be able to adhere. Unfortunately, the opposite can be the case as well if the nail is very damaged. Also, capping off the free edge! So I would suggest reallllyyy getting that base brush to the free edge and the top coat to seal it in. I hope this helps 🫶🏻

      @SipAndDip they are somewhat damaged, which is why I've been trying to use product to protect them but I'm starting to think dip powder isn't the best option. What do you recommend for protecting weak nails? Gel polish on its own isn't strong enough.

    Do you have a gel base on?

      Hi there! No, I don’t 🩷 it is peel base! It helps me pop off the product instead of soaking in acetone

    Um... what did you prep the nail with?

      Hi there! I am currently using peeling base on my natural nails, underneath the dip powder. This allows for easy pop off removal. The dip powder typically lifts within 1-3 days. It helps me keep up with my filming schedule without soaking in acetone. Of course if someone would like for the manicure to last then absolutely skip peel base! I have a prep video on my channel if you’d like a more detailed step by step 🥰

      I was given Nailboo from my sis who decided she didn't like dip nails. This was my first time trying dip, so I can't compare it to other brands, but for me it cracks terribly even when I do five layers of dip, building the apex. It cracks after just a few days so I can't even make it a full week. I did a soft square-ish nail shape the first and second time, then coffin/almond the third time. Both shapes cracked badly. It smells just like super glue, so it seems like a low budget kit with a higher price tag (based on the nailboo webite pricing) to give the illusion of quality. Not sure if my opinion will change once I try other kits...but this is my first impression. My friend uses gelish dip kit and says it doesn't smell like super glue and she's never had cracking. So this is why I *think* nailboo is the problem here, not necessarily anything I'm doing wrong. I've done 3 manicures with it and am now searching for something new to try that hopefully won't crack.

      @@Miss_Inform8tion I tried Gelish before the liquids kept getting goopy and then I looked at all the reviews and a lot of people were saying the same thing.
