That was a funny comment Robin! The hood shuts so tightly against the grille that you can't get a fingernail in there to pry it loose. Turn and shake is the way to do it! Thanks for watching!

Very nice! I like your approach to building and I had to smile about those exhaust pipes never reaching the exhaust manifolds. That snag gets me almost every build. You got there and everything came together.
I usually test fit the whole kit in white glue to fix stuff like that before paint. Only when you don’t does stuff like that happen. Thanks for watching. I appreciate your support 👍

That build came out really nice! Aside from some Caddy's back in the day that were done as lowriders for people, I've never messed with any other Johan kits but I have some in mind I'd like to build up. Great job!

I love AMC cars, especially the AMX and Javelin, but the 70 Rebel Machine was an awesome car too. 😎👍
The model is nice overall, but Jo-Han got the rear suspension and exhaust wrong. The angled links don't come together in the center. They attach to the frame outboard of the dual mufflers.

little tip on the window installs if you or anyone else watching has shakey hands, place the window where it goes without any glue, then tape a couple of locating blocks to the body inside so you have a ledge to place the window against so it goes right where you want it.
is possible to accidentally slide the window too far and get glue showing from the outside.
looking at the front wheel gap it seems close the back of the fender, i'm wondering if the chassis is further back than it should be, this could be why the air cleaners were out?
not built this model so i don't know, just doing a bit of columbo.
havent built iny model kits in a few decades, i was building them as a teen in the 1980's (UK) and i do still have a few johan kits from then, the desoto adventurer and 60 plymouth wagon, most of the others were ertl and monogram
went on the work in collision and restoration for my career, 54 and retired now,

Thanks for the tip messy! The interior had some positive mounting holes so I’m pretty sure it was in the right spot. It’s just an old kit and fit wasn’t all that important back then. Take care, I appreciate you watching and commenting 👍

That’s for sure Nitro! Some of the parts had no positive connection points so a big heap of testors cement would have had to be used and a days worth of drying time. It’s nice to have the selection of glues we have today. Thanks for watching👍
Nice! Love the tip about tape on the windshield. I'm kinda novice at this. May I ask what's the benefit of using different glues?
Hi Amateure, the tape windshield idea isn’t mine. I stole it from Paul at ISM it works well. I use solvent glue when I join two painted pieces or bare plastic. For windows and chrome pieces you risk either the glue not setting or making a mess of the pieces. That’s why I use white glue for chrome and the rhinestone adhesive which is water based on windows. It wipes right off before dry and doesn’t stain or mar the plastic. I hope this helps… thanks for watching 👍

Hi again James, do you not have issues with Tamiya extra thin not creating a good bond or taking paint off? I find myself scraping paint off most of the time and marring my finish
Describe a good bond to me. Tamiya extra thin joins two painted parts by melting the paint and the plastic into goo at the application point. That’s why I apply it at places that you don’t see. You don’t paint that glue on, just a dab at the joint and it’s done. The models rarely see any abuse so the delicate glue is fine with me.
@ScaleModelExperiment more often than not, if I have two painted parts and let capillary action seep into the join, the parts end up not bonding and fall apart with the slightest touch.
@@scale_model_apprentice hmmm, either you’re using too much or your paint is too thick because the glue is pooling.
@@ScaleModelExperiment okay, I'll see about reducing it down with some tamiya airbrush cleaner
@scale_model_apprentice I found a very old video that shows my body painting technique. My intent for the video was to not use clear but I ended up clearing it later. If I were to do it again, I would have stopped at the third coat when the car was 100% black.

Looking great James! It’s a shame car’s turn to dust ! They had personality back then! Most cars these days look like bars of soap ! Amazing watching builder’s with shaking hands especially at shows when they display their projects on the tables, then wonder how their builds turn out so great!
