    It's great to see these old kits, I remember seeing these things on the hobby shop shelves well into the'90s and still passed them by, I could kick myself for not scooping them up when you could get them for $10, hindsight is 20/20! Kinda makes me wonder about what's on the shelves now being worth a lot of money in just a few years

      I know what you mean. I still have a few I bought back then. I still have not built the JoHan 64 Dodge Super Stock that I bought back then. I believe it is the oldest kit I have that I bought new!

    If you want to keep the Hornet all AMC, you could use the motor from AMT's Gremlin X kit. 😎👍

    It really is a shame that Jo-Han no longer exists. Those were such fun kits. Wonder how they would look today if they were still in business.

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  3 роки тому

      Personally. I think if they were still around they would be viewed like AMT. Reissuing the same old crap from worn molds! The bodies are great and Just like MPC kits. Great bodies, interiors that are OK but not great and chassis that are not correct. Almost no mirrors and very few details.
      JoHan is still around but most of the molds are long gone. Okie Spalding owns the rights to JoHan and has what is left of the tooling. I understand that it is not much and is very difficult to get the licensing to make the ones he can produce. I heard the Ramble Wagon was on its way but cancelled due to licensing issues.

    ... WOW... I'll have to look for a model now... As of all things... I bought a running and driving 1973 AMC Hornet Sportabout X, with the Gucci interior, this January of '24 . Liked your clip. Best regards AMC 🇺🇸

      Thank you. I’m aware of Andy’s purchase and have been to his shop a few times. So far I bought a few parts kits and a Revell Pro Modeler 69 Charger. I needed that one for a comparison kit history video I’m planning. He has had some rare kits but so far nothing that I couldn’t live without. He is still digging through them. I may swing by today and see what else he has dug out.

    Nice find, and it is a bummer you can’t build a nice stock one. My hobby shop had one, too, but I told him I’d only want the body. Is that part of the now famous Andy Collection? I know Missing Link has a full detail Hornet X resin kit for a while, but they’re not making it anymore, either. Maybe they’ll repop it. Okay, onward to your Corvette!

    When you thin your paint do you use enamel thinner or lacquer thinner. I really like your muscle cars with your reviews. Great job

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  3 роки тому

      I use a lot of Scale Finishes paint and it does not need to be thinned. When I use Testors enamel I use there enamel thinner. On the clear coat that is Sherwin Williams I use there brand thinner this way I have no problems with chemical reactions. What ever paint you are using use the recommended thinner.

    I’ve been thinking about getting one of these, but I don’t want a MIB one, too expensive… I just got a 72 Javelin resin with a Polar Lights funny car kit, rather than a Johan Javelin (was about 1/2 the cost), though if I find a built Javelin I’d buy it to restore… if you know anything about making models into slot cars, I’d love to see a video on that. Thanks for the video!

    I am torn between keeping these as collectables or building them. Kits are meant to be built. But with the technology growing with printed resin parts, perhaps these old kits can be rejuvenated soon?

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler

      I buy to build and dream about building them. I don’t intend to collect but some I just don’t get to building. Some I loose interest in and then sell them. Then I regret selling them! Uhh you just can’t win!

      @@TheMuscleCarModeler OMG! I think you just said what the whole model building community believes!! Every box I pick up in a store goes through the same process of what colors, what options and all the way to how to display. The best mental picture goes home with me. Then I look at the unfinished kits at home, feel guilty for getting a new one. But I think the biggest guilts are the ones I didn't buy and can't find anymore

    Don't own a single JoHan kit, what in your opinion are the best car kits they made? I heard someone in Japan owns all the molds for JoHan.

    • @TheMuscleCarModeler
      @TheMuscleCarModeler  3 роки тому +2

      As far as detail goes I think the Full Detail Chrysler Turbine car is great. I have not built it yet but I do have two of them. They also had a curbside version. The rest of the kits build up fairly nicely that I have done. Truly they are not the best detail kits. As far as the Japan Rumor that one is false and a new one for me. Check out this video on JoHan. ua-cam.com/video/FA6KvM7YXWc/v-deo.html

      The word I heard (read in an article) by the end of Johan employees were taking the molds and selling them for scrap when they weren't getting paid. Hence why some of their kits are gone forever.
